U.S. Senate candidate Gary Chambers says – contrary to the opinion of many political experts – he has a real chance to beat Senator John Kennedy this fall. Kennedy was elected in 2016. Chambers says, in that election, 585-thousand black voters turned out to vote for Hillary Clinton…:

Chambers has released campaign videos wherein he’s seen burning a Rebel flag and even smoking marijuana. State Democrat leaders – including the Governor – have thrown their support behind Luke Mixon in that race.

He says morning low temperatures should only dip into the 70’s in coastal areas. He says the less humid weather should be with us at least through Thursday.

Gas prices continue going downward for a 13^th straight week. The statewide average price of regular gas is now at $3.19. That’s down 12-cents from a week ago…down 40-cents from a month ago…but still over 20-centas higher than a year ago. Cheapest gas was in Baton Rouge, at $2.75-a-gallon.

Over the weekend, we reached the statistical peak of the annual hurricane season…with no weather systems in the Atlantic, the Gulf or the Caribbean that could pose any threat to Louisiana’s coast. The region is quiet and mostly calm right now. Hurricane season ends November 30^th. Anything can happen between now and then.

The bakery at Breaux Mart was already preparing cakes with icing that read 28-3, a jab at the Falcons Super Bowl collapse, but assistant store manager Stephen Exnicios says the cake decorator changed the decorations so it reads 26-10 which was the score before Atlanta blew the lead yesterday. Exnicios says they wanted to do something to celebrate the Black and Gold’s largest fourth quarter comeback in team history…:

Louisianans vote on a U.S. Senate choice this November; re-elect John Kennedy for another 6 years, or choose someone new. Baton Rouge activist and Democrat candidate Gary Chambers says it should be him, despite most state Democrat leaders – including Governor Edwards getting behind Luke Mixon in that race. On Jim Engster’s “Talk Louisiana” program today, Chambers said, if he can get into a December runoff, he can beat Kennedy…:

Police in Eunice arrest a man for shooting at the Mamou Police Chief back in April. The Chief was responding to a “shots fired” call, when he found himself being fired upon. The suspect fled the scene. The investigation eventually led to 18-year-old Louis Jones, of Eunice, being apprehended and placed behind bars.

A high-ranking Democrat in the legislature endorses former Navy fighter pilot Luke Mixon for U.S. Senate. Shreveport Representative Sam Jenkins is chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. He says Mixon has the “right stuff” to replace Senator John Kennedy…:

Jenkins says this is a personal endorsement; not one of his caucus. Also in the race, New Orleans non-profit head Syrita Steib and Baton Rouge activist Gary Chambers. A Monroe woman is under arrest, after her 1-year-old toddler was left home alone Sunday, and later found wandering in the street. 22-year-old Aloria Dickson, who said she went to a friend’s house for “a little while.” She’s charged with criminal abandonment and more.

A Calhoun man who went alligator hunting for the first time ever ended up catching an eleven-plus foot gator that weighed more than 750 pounds. Jerry Sepulvado says he plans to sell it…

The Innocence Project New Orleans is appealing a ruling that said the state does not have to compensate 62-year-old Malcolm Alexander who spent 38 years in Angola for a rape conviction that was overturned. Attorney Jee Park says not everyone who is exonerated receives compensation…

A judge has denied compensation for Alexander because the evidence that led to his conviction being thrown out didn’t reach the level of proof needed to establish factual innocence.

The fan who casually walked onto the field during the LSU/Southern game Saturday night in Death Valley has been issued a misdemeanor summons. Police say Marwan Okeil strolled out onto the field then stood with his hands on his hips before being apprehended by officers and taken to the LSU Police Department. Okeil was faces charges of criminal trespassing and resisting an officer.

An advocacy group is seeking compensation for a man wrongly convicted, who served decades in prison. 62-year-old Malcolm Alexander’s rape conviction was overturned in 2018 after serving 38 years in Angola. But Innocence Project New Orleans executive director Jee Park says Alexander was denied compensation last year, and they are appealing the ruling. In Louisiana, it’s $40,000 for each year of wrongful imprisonment…:

A 71 year old man from Calhoun went gator hunting for the first time last week on Lake St. John and ended up catching one that he thought weighed around 400 pounds. Jerry Sepulvado of Calhoun he quickly learned the gator was far bigger:
