New data from the AARP shows that COVID-19 still has a deadly grip on the nation’s nursing homes. Deaths and cases from residents and staff nationwide have risen for the fourth consecutive month. Andrew Muhl is director of advocacy for AARP Louisiana.

Muhl says during a four week stretch over July and August, 46 Louisiana nursing home patients died from COVID after only recording five deaths during the previous four weeks.

When Louisiana roadways begin to experience significant congestion among the options to keep the flow of traffic continuous is a roundabout. While roundabouts are the norm in Europe and New England, DOTD Spokesperson Rodney Mallett says they are a successful alternative here also, even though there’s usually resistance at first.

UNO business professor Mark Rosa says the service industry, like wait staff, continues to have shortages, but with more options to work remotely that include benefits are winning out.

AccuWeather revises their forecast for the hurricane season to 12 named storms as we reach the peak of the season with only six named storms so far. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s office has charged two individuals with second-degree murder in the death of a one-year-old child. Over the weekend, deputies responded to a home and found the toddler unresponsive. The child died at a local hospital a short time later. 29-year-old Dillon Cormier and 23-year-old Deziree Sutton were booked into the parish jail.

The search continues for the gunman who fatally shot a 21-year-old LSU student multiple times. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant L’Jean McKneely says Allison Rice was found inside her car early Friday morning, on a well-travelled street close to the city’s downtown area. Cops continue to search for the gunman who fatally shot an LSU student multiple times in her vehicle as she was stopped at a railroad crossing near downtown Baton Rouge early Friday morning. 21-year-old Allison Rice was from Ascension Parish.

New data is out on the number of fatalities that occurred in Louisiana in 2021 and it’s not good. According to the LSU Center for Analytics and Research in Transportation, 927 people were killed in 2021 on Louisiana roads, that’s a 17-percent increase over the prioer year and the most since 2007. Louisiana rapper Mystikal will be arraigned Monday on charges of 1^st degree rape, domestic battery and drug possession. The artist – real name Michael Tyler – faces a life sentence if convicted of the rape charge alone. Tyler is from New Orleans, but lives in Ascension Parish.
