The state Department of Education has a new initiative to help make schools safer. Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley says they’ll announce the plan later this morning, along with representatives of Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans…:

The University of New Orleans announces a new energy center is coming to its research and technology park. UNO research and technology foundation president Rebecca Conwell says the school is using a $10 million-dollar federal grant and five million dollars in state funds to research things like wind-generated electricity from turbines in the Gulf.

Deer hunters in Franklin, Madison and Tensas Parishes are asked to submit deer samples so the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries can track Chronic Wasting Disease of CWD. LDWF Deer Program Manager Jon Bordelon says CWD was detected in Tensas Parish earlier this year and though it hasn’t been known to effect humans…it’s probably best to not eat venison from an infected deer…:

Thibodaux Police make a third arrest in connection with the September 10th shooting of 15-year-old Jarien Cole. Police Chief Bryan Zeringue says on Friday they arrested 39-year-old Talisha Duncan and she’s charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.  A 12-year-old and 15-year-old male were arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with second-degree murder. The case remains under investigation.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is asking deer hunters in the control areas of Franklin, Madison, and Tensas parishes to submit samples to test for Chronic Wasting Disease or CWD. LDWF Deer Program Manager Jonathan Bordelon says there is a list of locations on their website and at each location signage and instructions on how to submit a sample.

25-year-old Tremarcus Bell of Benton was arrested Thursday for the rape and molestation of a victim under the age of thirteen. The Bossier Sheriff’s Office says they were altered by the victim’s father of the alleged incidents that began approximately three years ago when Bell was caring for the victim who was then 12 years old.

To track and detect cases of Chronic Wasting Disease among deer the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is asking hunters to submit samples for testing.

Louisiana State Police joins the national training program known as The ABLE Project. ABLE stands for Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement and LSP Lt. Bryan Lee says they’ve joined a select group of more than 200 other law enforcement agencies with the specialized training.

Police in Thibodaux arrest a third person in the early September murder of 15-year-old Jairen Cole. Chief Bryan Zeringue says another 15-year-old boy was taken into custody Thursday. Because he is a minor, his name has been released. He’ll be charged with 2^nd-degree murder.

Deputies in Bossier parish arrest a Benton man; accused of raping and molesting a juvenile. 25-year-old Tramarcus Bell is alleged to have assaulted the child for a period of over 2 years. He’s being held pending a bond of over a half-million dollars.

Hunters in Tensas, Franklin & Madison parishes… state wildlife & Fisheries agents are asking you again this year to give them your deer kill, so the animals can be tested for the contagious Chronic Wasting Disease. Spokesman Jon Bordelon says a few cases have turned up in Tensas, so they want to test and track the illness…:
