After a four-year-old child went missing Christmas Eve and was found in the freezing waters of the Amite River, the East Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office says the manner of death has not been determined. Jacob Stricker told authorities his son Matias Stricker wandered off while they were hiking in the BREC Frenchtown Conservation Area trails. The toddler was found an hour later in the river transported to the hospital and died just before midnight. The child’s mother Isabel Stricker reportedly has a protective order against his father. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.

A preliminary report from the East Baton Rouge Parish coroner says they cannot determine exactly what caused the death of a 4-year-old boy, who was pulled from the icy waters of the Amite River on Christmas Eve. The child died Sunday in a local hospital. The manner and cause of the child’s death are still under investigation with the coroner and the sheriff’s office. The boy’s father says the boy got lost while the pair were hiking, and must have fallen in the water.

Viral video of a Baton Rouge convenience store clerk dousing a homeless person with cold water in the recent freeze has resulted in that person’s arrest. The incident happened at Triple S Food Mart; the same store where Alton Sterling was shot and killed by a cop while resisting arrest in 2016.

Reed says in the Ascension Parish crash, the driver of a Nissan Frontier was driving north on US 61, left the roadway, came back on the road, crossed the median, and hit a Chevy Equinox head-on in the southbound lane. He says the driver of the Nissan was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries. Reed says if you aren’t wearing a seatbelt you are at risk for injury or death whether you are driving safely or not.

A former teacher at Destrehan High is arrested for alleged sexual conduct with students that spanned several years; 2017 to quite recently. At least one male student is involved; possibly more. 32-year-old Kyle Aucoin-Melohn was fired subsequent to his arrest. St. Charles Sheriff’s investigators are still investigating.

A winning Powerball ticket purchased in Ascension Parish is still unclaimed and set to expire next month. The $50,000 lottery Powerball ticket was purchased at Fisherman’s One Stop on Highway 22. The Powerball prize was won on Saturday, July 30, Officials said the winning ticket matched four of the five numbers drawn and the red Powerball number to win. That ticket will expire on January 26^th if not redeemed.

In St. Charles Parish, a former Destrehan  High School teacher 32-year-old Kyle Aucion-Melohn faces one count of prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and a student and one count of molestation of a juvenile. The sheriff’s office says they received an anonymous tip on December 1st the teacher was molesting male students. As many of us return to work today, it’s still pretty cold for those of us here in the Bayou State. But State Climatologist Barry Keim says high temperatures in Louisiana are going to be a bit warmer.

The Louisiana Department of Health confirms two storm-related deaths in Caddo Parish. The Caddo Parish Coroner says a 30-year-old female and her 8-year-old son who died of blunt force trauma after a tornado destroyed their home on December 13^th.  The woman’s body was found the next morning under the wreckage and the child’s body was found Tuesday night in a wooded area.

Lt Governor Billy Nungesser is considering whether he’ll seek higher office next year. Senator John Kennedy may decide to run, and Nungesser says he owes it to others who may want to run for Lt. Governor to make up his mind quickly…:

State Police say a man out for a Christmas Day ride on his motorcycle was killed in a crash on Highway 425 near Vidalia. Troopers say 63-year-old Tom Pritchard of Vidalia went off the roadway for reason unknown and was thrown from his bike. He was wearing a helmet, but his injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Louisiana will, again this year, have a float in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and a host of beauty queens will be onboard.
