Former LSU and Atlanta Falcons center Todd McClure will be one of 12 inductees joining the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame this weekend. In 1995, McClure arrived at an LSU program coming off six straight losing seasons. He says playing for the Tigers was a dream come true.

Construction officially began in New Orleans on the Raising Cane’s 9th Ward Stadium at LCMC Health Field. Stacy Martin, the secretary for the board of Ninth Ward Stadium Incorporated, says they hope to one day add an adjacent track and field complex.

Cut 18 (15) “…work to do.”

Former Ponchatoula High School star Allen Graves was selected 19th overall by the Raptors in the NBA draft last night. Graves led the Green Wave to consecutive D-1 non-select state titles his junior and senior years and was named Louisiana Mr. Basketball. He was the West Coast Conference freshman and sixth man of the year after helping Santa Clara to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 30 years. He says he’ll bring that same winning mentality to Toronto.

Cut 19 (16) “…needs of me.”

Former Newman standout Chris Cenac Jr. was drafted 27th overall by the Celtics. Cenac led the Greenies to a state championship in 2024 and led Houston in rebounds as a freshman this season.

After all the rumors, the Pelicans did not make a move into the first round of the draft last night. They’ll have the 58th overall pick in tonight’s second round.

The NCAA approved the new five-for-five eligibility model. Athletes will now have five seasons of eligibility to be completed within a five-year window that starts either when the athlete enrolls full-time at any college or the first academic year after their 19th birthday. It essentially grants an extra season of eligibility but eliminates medical redshirts and exemptions for other extenuating circumstances. Maternity leave, religious exemptions, and military service are the only exceptions.

Pete Nakos of On3.com reported LSU is one of the frontrunners to land Oregon freshman transfer Angel Laya. The Freshman All-American outfielder hit .296 with 14 home runs and 47 RBIs and recorded no errors in 59 starts. Texas, Texas A&M, and Georgia are the others pursuing the slugger.

Former Tigers pitcher Kade Anderson is leading all of minor league baseball with a 1.02 ERA, .152 batting average allowed and 0.65 WHIP. The 2025 third overall pick is currently 7-and-0 with the Mariners’ Double-A affiliate, the Arkansas Travelers.

LSU Softball signed Notre Dame transfer Mickey Winchell. Winchell is currently the only incoming portal signee for the Tigers who have lost eight transfers after a Super Regional appearance this year. Winchell has one year of eligibility after starting four years in South Bend. She hit .335 and drew 25 walks while striking out only 10 times this season.

Louisiana Tech freshman infielder Casey McCoy announced he’ll be entering the transfer portal. The Dutchtown High product hit .281 with five homers. He recorded a .952 fielding percentage in 51 starts for the Bulldogs.

UL Lafayette received two more football commitments over the weekend. Wylie, Texas native Jabriran Blake plays quarterback now but is being recruited by the Cajuns as a defensive back with a blazing 4.35 40-yard dash. Adarius Hines is a 6-foot-6, 325-pound offensive lineman out of East View, Texas who chose UL over Texas State and North Texas.

Just when you thought it was over, the Brendan Sorsby saga continued today as the NFL declined to hold a supplemental draft this summer. A player has not been taken in a supplemental draft since 2019 and the last one held was in 2023.

Parkway three-star wide receiver Gary Burney Jr. flipped his commitment from Houston to LSU after visiting the LSU campus this weekend. 247Sports ranks Burney as the number-75 receiver in the country and the 21st prospect in Louisiana. Parkway coach Coy Brotherton says the 6-3 receiver has become a hot name on the recruiting trail.

Cut 18 (15) “…out that frame.”

Burney is the 14th commitment to LSU’s 2027 class ranked 17^th in the country by 247Sports. Five-star Sam Houston offensive lineman Albert Simien will announce his commitment Friday. The number three prospect in the state holds offers from LSU, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Alabama and Nebraska.

Oklahoma took home the College World Series title last night with a 13-2 win over North Carolina. It’s the Sooners’ third title and first since 1994.

The NBA draft is tonight at 7:00. The Pelicans do not own their eighth overall pick after trading it to the Hawks during last year’s draft to move up for Derik Queen. Locked On Pelicans Podcast host Jake Madison says they can go one of two ways: go get a proven star like Jaylen Brown to win now or fully rebuild.

Cut 16 (18) “…better long term.”

He says the two names to watch for a trade are forwards Trey Murphy and Herb Jones.

One massive name is off the trade market as the Bucks sent former MVP Giannis to the Heat for three first-round picks and four players, including Tyler Herro. The move is big for the Pelicans who were linked to a possible three-team trade that would have sent Antetokounmpo to Boston and Jaylen Brown to New Orleans. The Pels also hold the rights to the Bucks’ pick in next year’s draft.

Former LSU golfer and Shreveport native Sam Burns came up one stroke shy at the U.S. Open yesterday. Burns trailed the leader by seven strokes heading into the final day, but a three-under round wasn’t enough to catch Wyndham Clark. The win would have been Burns’s first major title. At last year’s Open, he was the sole leader heading into the final round at four under par but shot eight over on his final 18 and finished 7th. Burns says this year’s championship had a different feeling.

LSU starting shortstop Kylee Edwards announced she has withdrawn her name from the transfer portal to return to LSU. The Mississippi State transfer entered the portal last week after just one season in Baton Rouge. She hit .341 with ten homers as a junior this season.

The Tigers flipped Houston wide receiver commit Gary Burney Jr. The Parkway three-star is LSU’s 14th commit and second wideout in the class.

LSU has the chance to field one of the top infields in the country next season with the return of shortstop Steven Milam and a duo of experienced transfers. Florida senior Cade Kurland has 190 starts in four years with the Gators and will likely be the LSU starting second baseman. LSU coach Jay Johnson says Texas State sophomore shortstop Dawson Park can shift over to third.

A College World Series champion will be crowned in Omaha tonight. After losing the series opener 9-3, UNC bounced back with a 6-2 win over Oklahoma yesterday to force game three. The winner-take-all final is scheduled for 6 p.m.

St. James safety Jye Blain announced his commitment to Louisiana Tech over the weekend. The 5-11, 170-pound prospect becomes the fifth commit to the Bulldogs’ 2027 class.

The C-W-S Championship Series begins tonight between U-N-C and Oklahoma. The Tarheels came into the tournament as the fifth national seed while the Sooners snuck their way into Georgia Tech’s regional as one of the last teams to make it in. LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson says the teams have had very different paths to get here, but none of that matters now.

Running back Mark Ingram and offensive tackle Terron Armstead will be inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame as its class of 2026. Ingram ranks second in franchise history with 65-hundred rushing yards and 52 touchdowns in 10 seasons with the Saints. The three-time Pro Bowler was picked in the first round of the 2011 draft by New Orleans and says the city changed his life.
