LSU got back in the win column, cruising past Texas A-and-M, 35-6. Head Coach Lane Kiffin was especially pleased with how his team dominated on both sides of the ball, outgaining A-and-M 506 yards to 197.

The Tigers improve to 3-and-1 and will host McNeese in their final non-conference game Saturday. The Cowboys earned their second win of the season with a 27-24 result over East Texas A&M.

Southern lost to Jackson State 35-17 as the Jaguars’ losing streak against Jackson State extends to eight games, the longest in the history of the Boombox Classic. Head coach Marshall Faulk says the Jags did not play to their standard.

Southern hosts Arkansas Pine-Bluff on Saturday.

The Saints fell to 1-and-2 after a disappointing 35-27 loss to the Raiders in a game that New Orleans led by 11 points in the third quarter. Coach Kellen Moore wishes they could have won the home opener for Who Dat Nation…

Southeastern Louisiana beat Northwestern State 52-21 for a 16th straight W against the Demons. The Lions led 31-14 at halftime after scoring on five of their six possessions. Head coach Frank Scelfo still says it was a sloppy first half, but they cleaned up those mistakes…

For only the second time in the general election campaign for U.S. Senate, we have poll numbers.

Louisiana Tech and its Sigma Nu chapter both released statements regarding a video in which racial slurs can be heard being said over the loudspeaker at the chapter house after midnight Sunday morning. The chapter said the incident is “repugnant, unacceptable and completely contrary to the values and standards of Sigma Nu,” while the university condemned the behavior and said it will investigate the incident “fully and swiftly.”

The final weeks of September is one of the worst times for asthma flare-ups and hospital visits, so the Louisiana Department of Health is reminding you to be on the lookout for triggers and symptoms of asthma attacks. Nurse consultant Tanya Cobb recommends people with asthma have rescue medication like an inhaler close at hand wherever they go. She says families should work with their healthcare providers to develop an asthma action plan.

The Saints let one slip away yesterday: up by 11 in the third quarter, they turned it over four times in the fourth and lost to the Las Vegas Raiders 35 to 27. New Orleans quarterback Tyler Shough threw four touchdown passes, but also turned it over three times…

LSU hosts Texas A&M tomorrow night as the Tigers look to bounce back from a loss to Ole Miss last week. The Tigers’ offense struggled on the road as the Rebels’ pass rush disrupted the passing game. Coach Lane Kiffin said on his LSU Radio coaches show that needs to be fixed.

Cut 12 (14) “…our offense.”

Southern kicks off SWAC play tomorrow at 6:00 with a road trip to Jackson State. The Tigers are 3-and-0 to start the season. Grambling will also have a tough matchup as they head to Dallas to face defending conference champion Prairie View A&M in the State Fair Classic.

In the Sun Belt, UL Lafayette is visiting winless Charlotte at 5:30. ULM hosts FAU in its homecoming game as the Warhawks search for their first win. Kickoff in Monroe is at 7:00.

And in the Southland, Nicholls hosts Lamar at 3:00, and Southeastern Louisiana visits Northwestern State and McNeese welcomes East Texas A&M at 6:00.

The Saints host the Raiders for their home opener on Sunday. The Raiders are 2-and-0 under first-year head coach Klint Kubiak and veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins. Saints defensive coordinator Brandon Staley says Cousins has made a big difference on a team that had the worst record in the NFL last season.

Cut 20 (18) “…the right way.”

Wide receiver Barion Brown has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, and defensive tackle Christen Miller is also out a second straight week with a toe injury. Raiders tight end Brock Bowers is questionable.

An LSU icon passed away this week. Basketball Legend Bob Pettit died at the age of 93. He led the SEC in scoring while at LSU and led the Tigers to their first Final Four. In the NBA, he was an 11-time All-Star and two-time MVP.

This is the last weekend of September, and we’re still waiting for the year’s first hurricane in the Atlantic. Andrew Greenstein reports.

Louisiana Tech University President Dr. Jim Henderson announced that he will retire at the end of this calendar year. In just under three years in the role, Henderson has helped guide the school through record enrollment growth, major gains in research and development funding, and a move to the Sun Belt Conference.

Legendary LSU basketball star Bob Pettit died at the age of 93 this week. Pettit was a three-time All-SEC selection at LSU and went on to a stellar, 11-year NBA career with the Hawks. He helped the Hawks to an NBA title in 1958 and scored a then-record 50 points to clinch the series against the Celtics. LSU basketball sports information director Kent Lowe says the list of accolades goes on.

Cut 5 (11) “…20-thousand points.”

Nine events will be held around the state tomorrow for National Seat Check Saturday. Parents can get important information on the safest way to keep their kids restrained in vehicles, and child safety seats will be available for families in need. Greg Fischer with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission says if you can’t make it, don’t worry – this will not be the only event of its kind during the course of the year.

LSU basketball legend Bob Pettit passed away at the age of 93 on Wednesday. Pettit led the SEC in scoring all three seasons at LSU and became just the second major college player ever to average over 30 points per game in a season. He led LSU to its first Final Four in 1953, and LSU basketball SID Kent Lowe says Pettit will never be forgotten.

Cut 4 (13) “…of the program.”

Tenth-ranked LSU and 23rd-ranked Texas A-and-M face off in Tiger Stadium tomorrow night. Both find themselves 0-and-1 to start SEC play after losses last week, so there is a lot of pressure to get a win and keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. LSU safety Ty Benfield says none of that matters on the field.

Cut 18 (08) “…Aggies right now.”

Former LSU Heisman winner Jayden Daniels will not be placed on injured reserve after dislocating his left elbow against the Cowboys last week. ESPN reports he is considered week-to-week, and he will try to return as soon as possible.

UL Lafayette visits Charlotte tomorrow. The 49ers are 0-and-3 on the season, coming off a close loss to Appalachian State last week. Cajuns head coach Michael Desormeaux says they have a good defense and an experienced offensive line, but this is a massive opportunity for the Cajuns.

ULM looks for its first win as the Warhawks host F-A-U for homecoming.

SWAC play starts tomorrow, Southern hit the road hoping to break Jackson State’s seven-game win streak against them. Grambling will take on defending conference champion Prairie View A-and-M in the State Fair Classic in Dallas.

With many considering today to be Dolly Parton Day, 9-25, one lawmaker is using the occasion to announce a bill that he will file in the next session to raise money for her signature philanthropic initiative. Chalmette Representative Michael Bayham is proposing a special license plate in memory of the legendary country singer and actress, with 25 dollars from the registration of each plate supporting her Imagination Library.

Health officials are warning Louisianians about the dangers of cychlorphine (sy-CLORE-feen), a synthetic opioid estimated to be ten times stronger than fentanyl. Mark Ryan, the executive director of the Louisiana Poison Center, says cychlorphine is so potent that the Narcan typically used to counteract fentanyl overdoses may not be enough. He says naloxone works by blocking opiate receptors in the brain.

Cut 8 (09) “…wake them up.”

A search of a 15-acre property in West Feliciana Parish did not result in any human remains or other indicators as officials continue their investigation into the disappearances of Madison Allen and Stephanie Hevia (HEE-vee-uh). Allen disappeared in November 2023, while Hevia has not been seen since March 2025. Both women knew Thomas Morris, who once lived on the property, but their exact relationship is unclear. Sheriff Brian Spillman says the reward for information leading to their whereabouts has been doubled to 10-thousand dollars.

Cut 5 (09) “…get to that.”

LSU basketball legend Bob Pettit passed away at the age of 93 on Wednesday. The Baton Rouge native was one of the first great stars of LSU sports. LSU basketball sports information director Kent Lowe says he was legendary on and off the court.

LSU hosts Texas A&M this weekend in what could almost be an elimination game for the College Football Playoff after both teams lost their SEC openers. The Aggies lost to Kentucky 31-21 last week and coach Mike Elko says it was one of the worst defensive performances in his time in College Station.

The tenth-ranked Tigers host the number 23 Aggies at 6:30 on Saturday.

LSU Basketball legend Bob Pettit died yesterday at the age of 93, his family announced today. The Baton Rouge High School product was a three-time All-SEC selection at LSU and led the Tigers to their first Final Four in 1953. He was the first player to win the NBA’s MVP in 1956 and won it again in 1959. He made league history by becoming the first player to surpass the 20,000 career points milestone.

Former LSU and Saints receiver Barion Brown missed a second straight practice with a hamstring injury today. Cornerback Martin Emerson and D-tackle Christen Miller were also sidelined with injuries, and running back Kendre Miller was out with an illness as New Orleans prepares for its home opener against the Raiders. Safety Jonas Sanker, D-tackle Nathan Shepherd and defensive end Chase Young were all full participants after being limited yesterday.

McNeese head coach Matt Viator announced that quarterback Devin Lippold will be out for the remainder of the season with a wrist injury he suffered in the Cowboys’ 27-10 loss UTRGV. Lippold took over as the starting quarterback after Jake Strong went down with an injury to his throwing shoulder. Strong filled in when Lippold went down last week and is expected to start Saturday against East Texas A-and-M

The Pelicans are signing forward Julian Reese to a two-way deal. The brother of former LSU star Angel Reese averaged nearly 12 points and over 10 rebounds a night in 13 games with the Wizards last year. He was college teammates with Pels center Derik Queen at Maryland.

Southern University has named six finalists to be its new president. Three of the six are currently serving in roles in Louisiana: John Belton, the district attorney for the state’s Third Judicial Court, Delgado Community College Chancellor Dr. Larissa Littleton-Steib and Baton Rouge Community College chancellor Dr. Willie Smith. Interviews will be conducted in the coming weeks.

Some studies have found relationships between greater consumption of ultra-processed foods and poorer cognitive outcomes, but researchers like Doctor Owen Carmichael of LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center, are still working to determine how much of that relationship can be attributed directly to the foods themselves and how much may reflect diet, lifestyle or overall health…

The only junior college in the LSU system is experiencing tremendous growth. The fall enrollment at LSU Eunice has topped four-thousand for the first time ever and is approaching five-thousand. Chancellor Nancee Sorensen says the enrollment increase to just under 47-hundred students is the result of the school’s ability to adapt to changing times.

University of Louisiana System accidentally disclosed team-level payout information on how much public money its schools would be paying their student-athletes across various sports. Louisiana Tech leads the way with nearly two-million-dollars pledged to student-athletes, 1.2-million of which goes to football. The Ragin’ Cajuns football team will receiver almost 600-thousand-dollars of UL Lafayette’s 1.5-million-dollar budget. Northwestern State will spend 750-thousand-dollars and Southeastern will dedicate 454-thousand-dollars to pay student-athletes.

Four days of family-friendly entertainment at the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival in New Iberia begins today. Festivities include live music, carnival rides and the crowning of Queen Sugar. And of course, no festival is complete without food. Festival board member Doreen Landry says revelers can satisfy their sweet tooth and any other cravings at the festival’s food trucks.

The fall enrollment at LSU Eunice has topped four-thousand for the first time ever with a 23-percent increase from last year’s then-record enrollment. LSU-E’s enrollment includes nearly 14-hundred dual enrollment students, more than one-thousand first-time students and 458 transfer students. Chancellor Nancee Sorensen says she expects the growth to continue.

Both tenth-ranked LSU and number-23 Texas A-and-M will be looking to rebound from disappointing losses when the teams square off in Tiger Stadium this weekend. LSU coach Lane Kiffin says quarterback Sam Leavitt has admitted he had a bad outing against Ole Miss, and the home game will be a chance to get back on track.

Cut 16 (19) “…better this week.”

Former LSU women’s basketball star Flau’Jae Johnson set a Seattle Storm record for the most points in a rookie season behind a 21-point night against the Dallas Stars. Her 626 points this season surpassed the 621 Breanna Stewart scored in 2016 and Sue Bird’s rookie campaign. The Storm capped off her rookie year with a 103-93 loss, falling to 8-and-36 on the season, the worst finish in franchise history.

The Saints host the undefeated Raiders on Sunday in a matchup between two squads that have surprisingly turned heads through the first two games of the season. It will be the black and gold’s first game back in the Superdome since August 15, and Quarterback Tyler Shough expects to see a full house.

Cut 20 (15) “…our detail.”

Will Wade’s LSU basketball roster officially lists only four players, but he says he’s been practicing with a full team since Labor Day. That’s because many of his players are former international pros or fifth-year seniors waiting on eligibility rulings to play this season. Wade has drawn a lot of criticism for his approach, but he says just because it’s different doesn’t make it wrong.
