One of the early trending topics of the LSU football team is how fast the receiving room is. Seniors Chris Hilton Jr. and Barion Brown are two weapons head coach Brian Kelly can see taking the tops off of defenses. He says Hilton has come out of his shell this offseason.

LSU received a commitment from three-star defensive lineman Darryus McKinley. The Lafayette native is the younger brother of current Tiger Dominick McKinley and is the 16th-ranked prospect in Louisiana. The Tigers currently hold the nation’s 8th-ranked recruiting class with four three-star or higher D-line commits.

Louisiana Tech kicked off fall camp in head coach Sonny Cumbie’s 4th season in Ruston. The Bulldogs welcomed new defensive coordinator Luke Olsen following Jeremiah Johnson’s departure after just one season with the team. Linebacker Kolbe Fields says the Dogs have adjusted to the new scheme.

The Superdome is celebrating its 50th anniversary Sunday. From the Rolling Stones to Muhammad Ali, the venue has brought legends and fans from all over the world to the Crescent City. Vice President of ASM Global, the company that manages the stadium, Doug Thornton, says its impact on downtown New Orleans has been immeasurable.

With fall camp underway, LSU has multiple ongoing position battles, the most important being the offensive line unit. Redshirt sophomore left tackle Tyree Adams will have the unenviable task of replacing fourth overall NFL draft pick Will Campbell, but head coach Brian Kelly is confident in the former four-star.

The Tigers are waiting on the commitment announcement of three-star defensive lineman Darryus McKinley, the younger brother of current Tiger Dominick McKinley. The Acadiana High product will decide between LSU, Florida, Texas and Tennessee at 1:00 this afternoon.

The Bulldogs began fall camp in head coach Sonny Cumbie’s fourth season in Ruston yesterday. Louisiana Tech is led by redshirt sophomore quarterback Evan Bullock. With the departure of top receivers Tru Edwards and Jimmy Holiday, Bullock will rely on junior tight end Eli Finley. Finley was an All-CUSA honorable mention last season, and head coach Sonny Cumbie has high expectations in year three.

Louisiana Tech Hall of Famer and former NFL quarterback Luke McCown will be the color analyst for the Bulldogs’ two ESPN+ broadcast games this fall. He’ll join play-by-play voice Malcolm Butler for Tech’s first two home games, August 30 versus Southeastern and September 13 against New Mexico State.

The Saints are signing guard Shane Lemieux. The 27-year-old started four games for the injury-riddled Saints last season.

LSU fall camp is fully underway in Baton Rouge, and one name in particular has stood out. Defensive tackle Dominick McKinley has bulked up to 308 pounds for this upcoming season, and his strength has put head coach Brian Kelly on notice. Kelly says he’s grown mentally and physically.

In recruiting news, 4-star defensive lineman Darryus McKinley, brother of Dominick, is set to commit today. The Acadiana High defensive tackle will choose between Florida, Texas, Tennessee, or LSU. Reports point towards McKinley joining his brother in Baton Rouge to play for the Tigers.

Louisiana Tech opened fall camp yesterday. The Bulldogs are led by new offensive coordinator Tony Franklin.  Redshirt senior offensive lineman Landon Nelson says Franklin brings a winning mentality back to Ruston.

The LSU Student Food Pantry has reaped the benefits of Tigers fans indulging in Jello shots at Rocco’s during the College World Series. The food pantry received a check from Rocco’s for $52,390 – one dollar for each Jello shot Campus Life Manager Jennifer Cristina says the money will com in handy.

The Tigers were still easing into action in their second day of practice today. Wide receiver Aaron Anderson was not seen during the open portion of practice, but he was replaced by Kentucky transfer Barion Brown. Head coach Brian Kelly says he has 8 high-caliber SEC receivers, but the offense won’t be able to take advantage of any of their firepower if the trenches don’t do their job first. Questions have swirled around an offensive line that lost four starters to the NFL Draft last season. Kelly is confident in his mix of returning talent and proven transfers but says nothing is set in stone.

Cut 18 (14) “…couple of weeks.”

Former Saint and veteran NFL running back Latavius Murray announced his retirement after 11 seasons. Murray totaled over eight thousand yards and 61 touchdowns in his career.

The Saints had a reportedly energetic practice today as head coach Kellen Moore led the offense against coordinator Brandon Staley’s defense in team drills.  The offensive line has been one of the strongest units of camp so far. Seven-year NFL vet Will Clapp returned to New Orleans this offseason and says he’s been wowed by young tackles Kelvin Banks and Taliese Fuaga.

Louisiana Tech kicked off practice today. The Bulldogs were 12th in total defense a year ago but lost coordinator Jeremiah Johnson to Coastal Carolina. The unit is led by preseason Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year Kolbe Fields.

Governor Jeff Landry announced his father, Al Landry, passed away yesterday. Governor Landry says his father is reunited with his wife Edna, who passed away in 2019. Former state senator Fred Mills says Al Landry was a respected architect, and his fingerprints are all over St. Martin Parish.

LSU fans won Rocco’s Jello shot challenge at the College World Series this summer with an impressive 52,390 Jello shots, and the LSU Student Food Pantry is sharing in the success. The Omaha pizzeria sent the food pantry a check for one dollar for each Jello shot purchased. Campus Life Manager Jennifer Cristina says they watched LSU soar up the Rocco’s leaderboard.

Starting tomorrow, Louisiana drivers can have darker-tinted front windows. A new law goes into effect, lowering the previous requirement of 40% light transmission to 25%. Marksville Republican Representative Daryl Deshotel says before, only certain people were permitted to have the dark tint.

He says the new law will clear up confusion for law enforcement and protect vehicles in the Louisiana heat.

Another law banning the Southeast Asian herbal supplement kratom goes into effect tomorrow. Some use kratom to treat pain, anxiety or drug dependence and argue it has beneficial qualities. West Monroe senator Jay Morris says potential addiction and devastation outweigh any benefits.

The herbal supplement kratom becomes illegal in Louisiana tomorrow, thanks to Act 41 approved in the last legislative session. Kratom comes from a plant native to Southeast Asia and can cause psychosis at high doses. The bill’s author, Republican West Monroe Senator Jay Morris, says Kratom has the addictive qualities of opioids.

Also going into effect tomorrow is a new law allowing for your front windows to be tinted darker – 25-percent light transmission, down from the previous standard of 40-percent. The bill was written by Marksville Republican Representative Daryl Deshotel, who says tinted windows are needed for Louisiana’s climate.

LSU had its first practice of fall camp yesterday. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier threw for over four thousand yards last season, but after a full season as the starter, head coach Brian Kelly expects him to improve. Kelly says his top priority is eliminating negative plays.

Kelly says Nussmeier has been clocked running over 21 miles an hour and should rely on his legs more this season.

Free agent tight end Noah Fant signed with the Bengals today after also meeting with the Saints and Dolphins. New Orleans tight end Juwan Johnson returned to the practice field after leaving early with a minor groin injury yesterday. Johnson signed a three-year, 30-million-dollar extension this offseason.

Former Saints first-round pick Trevor Penning has made the move from tackle to guard this offseason. Penning struggled to find consistency on the edge, and the bruiser says his aggressive skillset is better suited for the interior. He says the switch is going well, but there are still things to improve.

In the first meeting of the legislative committee reviewing LHSAA policies and practices, lawmakers suggested a one-time transfer rule. Many student-athletes must sit out a year after transferring to a new high school to regain eligibility. Thibodaux Representative Bryan Fontenot says with school choice options expanding, students should not be penalized.

High school principals recently voted overwhelmingly against a one-time transfer rule.

The Tigers took the practice field for the first day of fall camp today. LSU’s loudest supporter this offseason may have been Tigers head coach Brian Kelly. He says he has a deep roster with winning traits.

Kelly announced five-star freshman offensive lineman Solomon Thomas will miss a month after breaking his fifth metatarsal in his foot. The 335-pound freshman was a top interior offensive lineman in the class of 2025 and is in line to compete in an O-line with four new starters. His return will now likely be after the season kicks off.

Former LSU slugger Tommy White was promoted from the Athletics’ High-A affiliate Lansing Lugnuts to the Double-A Midland RockHounds. White hit .260 with 36 RBI in 66 games with the Lugnuts

LSU will kick off the season at Clemson August 30. Brian Kelly hasn’t shied away from the big game, but he says breaking his week one losing streak will take more than words.

Saints defensive players have seemingly bought into coordinator Brandon Staley’s new scheme. Defensive tackle Khalen Saunders says it’s built to create one-on-ones, which the Black and Gold should win every time.

Tight end Juwan Johnson left practice with an injury today. Head coach Kellen Moore said he’d have an update tomorrow, but as of now, nothing was overly concerning.

There have been 54 fire-related deaths in Louisiana this year; that’s up from 41 this time last year. Ken Pastorick of the State Fire Marshal’s Office says in 41 fatal fires this year, only 13 homes had smoke alarms and only three of those were known to be working.

Homeowners can apply for a free smoke alarm and installation through Operation Save-A-Life.

A new study shows Northwestern State University has a major economic impact on central and northwest Louisiana. University President James Genovese says taxpayers and students benefit from investing in the institution.

Governor Jeff Landry announced General Motors Insurance as a new auto insurance provider in Louisiana last week, helping to drive down insurance rates. Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says GM National Insurance has been doing business in the state since 2006. Temple says they do have a new product available for drivers of newer GM vehicles.

The LSU football team took to the practice field for the first outing of fall camp today. Head coach Brian Kelly has gone winless in week one games in his three years in Baton Rouge. The Tigers will have a daunting matchup at Clemson to kick off this year’s campaign, but Kelly hasn’t shied away from the big game. He says his staff has been working to break his streak since January.

UL-Lafayette President Dr. Joseph Savoie announced he’s stepping down after 17 years leading the university. University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jamie Hebert will serve as interim president. In a letter to the campus community, Savoie called his tenure “the honor of his life.”

Governor Jeff Landry recently announced General Motors Insurance as a new company providing auto insurance in Louisiana. State Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says GM National Insurance is not a new company to Louisiana, but they have a new product…

The LSU football team kicked off fall camp today. Head coach Brian Kelly has raved about his team ahead of his fourth season in Baton Rouge. He says he’s seen a tight-knit group doing the necessary things to win.
