A CDC advisory committee is expected to give emergency use authorization today for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 12 to 15-years-old. Senator Bill Cassidy says most children do not suffer severe effects from COVID-19, but that’s not a reason to have your child immunized.

The state House has approved a bill that would decriminalize possession of a small amount of marijuana. Currently, a person who possesses 14 grams or less of marijuana could face up to 15 days in jail and up to six months if convicted a second time. The legislation that passed the House removes the possibility of jail time for possession of small amounts. The proposal still needs Senate approval.

Earlier this season, LSU defeated Louisiana Tech 16-7, last night the Fighting Tigers topped the 14th ranked Bulldogs 16-8 in a game halted in the seventh inning, because of lighting. Freshman first baseman Tre Morgan continues to swing a hot bat as he went four for five with 2 runs driven in. Zach Arnold was three for four with 4 RBI. Tech jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Greg Martinez and Kyle Griffen combined to give up seven runs. Taylor Young had two hits and drove in two runs in a losing effort.

The Ragin Cajuns game against Southern was halted after a half-inning of play because of lighting in Lafayette. U-L will now get ready for a big Sun Belt Series against U-T-A. The Mavericks lead the West division with an 11-and-7, while the Cajuns are two games back at 9-and-9. That series will begin Friday in Arlington.

The Pelicans host the Mavericks at 8 PM tonight. If New Orleans losses, they are eliminated from appearing in the play-in tournament. A San Antonio win over the Nets tonight in Brooklyn will also end the Pels chances.

Tonight at 7 PM the NFL schedule will come out. When will the Saints play the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers, who they lost to in the playoffs? Also, will New Orleans still appear in a lot of primetime games, even though Drew Brees is retired?

LSU All-American cornerback Derek Stingley Junior will wear the number seven jersey for the Tigers in the 2021 season. Stingley has been wearing number 24. The number seven jersey goes to the team’s top playmaker.

Sports betting legislation at the State Capitol is advancing. The Louisiana House has approved a bill that would allow sports betting to take place at bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. There would be kiosks at those sites to place bets. A Senate committee has also approved a bill that would allow sports betting parlors at the state’s casinos and race tracks.

The Louisiana House has passed a bill that would decriminalize possession of marijuana. The vote was 67-25 in favor. If the Senate approves the bill, a person found with a small amount of marijuana would be charged with a misdemeanor, instead of a felony.

A bill to allow Louisiana consumers to have their favorite wine shipped directly from the manufacturer passes in the House.  Current law prohibits manufacturers from sending vino directly to a connoisseur in Louisiana. Larose Representative Joseph Orgeron says 44 other states allow this but in Louisiana, a wholesale agreement with distributors hinders the sale.

Opponents like Baton Rouge Representative Denise Marcelle say it could hurt wine wholesalers and retailers in the state.

Orgeron says due to the current law wineries do not file appropriate paperwork to ship directly to consumers in the state because the agreement with wholesalers and retailers hinders them from shipping most of their product.

Gas prices look likely to rise nationwide after a cyber-attack shut down the Colonial Pipeline, one of the nation’s largest fuel veins.

AAA Fuel Analyst Don Redman says Louisiana likely won’t be as impacted as other states due to our local production, but to the east of us…

The pipeline carries fuel from Texas up to the East Coast.

The average cost of a gallon of gas in Louisiana sits at two dollars and 66 cents, but Redman says nationally that number is just under three dollars and expected to rise quickly…

The price is up a dollar and six cents from this time last year when the futures price of a barrel of oil dropped below zero.

Redman says this attack comes at a particularly bad time given the fact that prices were already beginning their slow summer march upward…

According to the FBI, the ransomware attack came from a Russian hacking collective that was attempting to extort money from the pipeline’s operators.

A House floor vote on legalizing recreational marijuana use is once again delayed. Matt Doyle asked a political analyst what’s going on with this controversial bill

The Louisiana House has approved a bill that would allow consumers of wine to receive wine straight from a manufacturer. The author of the proposal, Larose Representative Joseph Orgeron, says 44 other states have a similar law, which increases consumer access. Opponents say the measure could hurt wholesalers and retailers that sell wine.

Small businesses are dealing with a worker shortage. Louisiana NFIB Director Dawn McVea says they are looking for the legislature to pass legislation similar to what was approved in Montana, which enacted a hiring bonus of $1,200 and eliminated federal enhancements of unemployment benefits…

But opponents of the legislation say if employers want to hire workers, they need to pay a fair wage.

The plan is for the United States to land a space ship on the moon next year and five LSU students have helped develop a radiation detective device for the astronauts to use. Assistant professor Jeffery Chancellor in the LSU Department of Physics and Astronomy says these scientists may be young, but that’s not unusual in this field…

For the second time in this session, a vote to legalize recreational marijuana has been delayed by the bill’s author, Mandeville Representative Richard Nelson. La-Politics-dot-com publisher Jeremy Alford says the bill has everything going against it right now except broad public support, but he warns against giving up on it just yet.

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, along with a bipartisan group of more than 40 attorneys general, wants Facebook to reconsider launching Instagram for Kids. Landy fears a child-friendly Instagram for ages 13 and under will be misused by predators.

Business groups are calling on lawmakers to cease federally enhanced unemployment benefits to help end the worker shortage. Brooke Thorington explains.
