A nine-year-old boy continues to recover from a bite to the leg from an alligator that occurred while he was swimming with his family in Lake Pontchartrain this past weekend. A three-year-old boy from Hammond is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face. That’s according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office who says the three-year-old got a hold of the gun and accidentally shot himself in the face. A parent immediately attempted life-saving measures, but the child passed away.

A nine-year-old boy is luck to be alive after he was attacked by an alligator when swimming in Lake Pontchartrain on Sunday…

LSU football has received a commitment from the nation’s number one cornerback, D-J Pickett who is from Tampa, Florida. The five-star corner chose the Tigers over Oregon and Miami. Pickett says he wanted to be coached by LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond. He joins a star studded recruiting class that also features the nation’s number one quarterback Bryce Underwood and running back Harlem Berry.

LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson also had big recruiting win yesterday as left-handed pitcher Cooper Williams decommitted from Texas A-and-M and committed to LSU. Perfect Game ranks Williams as the 12th best left-hander in the country. He’s six-foot-four, 175 pounds from Alvin, Texas. Pickett features a 93-mile per hour fastball and Perfect Game says he also has a big slider and changeup.

Louisiana Tech catcher Jorge Corona has signed a free agent deal with the Chicago White Six. The Miami native hit .316 with 16 homers and 51 RBIs last season.

U-L Lafayette athletics director Bryan Maggard has received a contract extension that keeps him at the school through June 2029. Maggard says one of his big challenges is making sure the Ragin Cajuns can compete with other mid-major schools in the N-I-L world…

After the first day of qualifying, three Black men have qualified to represent the newly drawn sixth Congressional district that now favors an African-American to win. They are Republican Elbert Guillory and Democrats Cleo Fields and Quentin Anderson.

Fields, a state senator from Baton Rouge, believes in the Voting Rights Act and that the state should have a second majority-minority district because a third of Louisiana’s population is Black.

A new state law makes it easier to appeal traffic citations from speeding cameras. Monroe Senator Stewart Cathey said he wrote the law because of complaints that speeding camera companies were giving drivers tickets without input from local police.

The law allows drivers to appeal tickets from traffic cameras by proving there were outside issues involved, like if someone else was driving their car or if there were hazardous conditions.

A nine-year-old boy is recovering after he was attacked by an alligator in Lake Pontchartrain. The New Orleans Fire Department says the scary incident happened Sunday while the child was swimming with his family. The boy sustained laceration and puncture wounds. Fire officials credit the child’s father for acting quickly to fend off the six-foot alligator.

Former Northwestern State star David Fry had a big hit as he drove in a run to help the American League come back from a three to nothing deficit to win five to three.

The University of Louisiana System is expected to name Jimmy Genovese as the next president of Northwestern State. A formal vote will occur tomorrow. Genovese currently serves as a judge on the Louisiana Supreme Court. The 74-year-old is Northwestern State grad and Governor Landry has pushed for him to get the job.

Qualifying for the fall elections are underway. All six of Louisiana’s congressional seats are up for election and there’s an open seat on the Public Service Commission. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says being a P-S-C member is a coveted political job…

The underage gambling charges against former LSU receiver Kayshon Boutte have been dropped. He was arrested in January. The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s office says Boutte has completed a gambling awareness program and executed a self-ban. Legal Analyst Tim Meche says Boutte’s case will be a lesson learned for LSU and the NCAA, as they need to monitor college athletes when it comes to sports wagering.
