Lafourche Parish deputies arrested 19-year-old Tyaliah Adams for possessing a gun in the parking lot of the Thibodaux High School football stadium. Adams allegedly brandished the firearm during an altercation between two males. Authorities say when she showed the gun, everyone fled the scene.

During a speech in front of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, Governor Jeff Landry touted the passage of a bill that allows prosecutors to charge a 17-year-old as an adult when a serious crime was committed. Landry believes this legislation will address the rising levels of violent crime among teens…

The Saints play their final preseason game against the Titans this Sunday in the Caesars Superdome. First-year offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak told reporters he will call plays from the sideline for this game after calling plays from the press box during the first two preseason games. A St. Tammany Parish judge has sentenced a Virginia woman to 35-years in prison as a result of a traffic stop on I-12 that resulted in sheriff deputies discovering four Fruity Pepples cereal boxes filled with nearly eight-thousand methamphetamine pills. Prosecutors say 32-year-old Precious Hicks was convicted on drug trafficking charges and she has a lengthy criminal history.

The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) unanimously approved new policies based on State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley’s Let Teachers Teach workgroup. Brumley says the new policies free teachers from what he calls “onerous bureaucracy”…

The policies focus on expanding teacher autonomy and creating a disruption-free classroom by tightening student discipline, giving more lesson planning freedom to effective teachers, and reducing the number of training teachers have to repeat every year….

Some of the approved policies are ensuring misbehaving students are removed from a classroom immediately if a teacher requests it, giving effective teachers more freedom to plan lessons, and reducing repeat teacher training. Brumley says enforcing these policies will be a collaborative effort between state and local educators…

The policies will take effect before the end of the school year.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s has arrested a Pitkin woman for murder after she allegedly killed her husband. Deputies say 53-year-old Melissa Ann Sweat called authorities and they responded to a home in Pitkin and found 61-year-old Rodney Sweat dead. Melissa Ann Sweat was taken into custody. No details on what led to the shooting.

The longtime voice of Tiger Stadium, Dan Borne, is taking a leave of absence because of medical issues. Borne is hopeful he will return to his public address announcing duties at Tiger Stadium this season, but for now, the voice of Alex Box Stadium, Bill Franques, will fill in for Borne.

USC football coach Lincoln Riley has named Miller Moss as the Trojans starting quarterback. LSU and USC will meet in Las Vegas on September 1st. Moss is replacing Heisman Winning Trophy quarterback Caleb Williams. Moss performed well in the Holiday Bowl last year .

Chandler Fields and Ben Woolridge have been battling to be the Cajuns starting quarterback. Coach MIchael Desormeaux says the training camp battle is over, but the public will have to wait to see who will start against Grambling…

The Humane Society of Louisiana says 26 dogs had to be rehomed after Bienville Parish Sheriff’s deputies charged two people in Jamestown with 32 counts of cruelty to animals. H-S-L Director Jeff Dorson says the Bissell Foundation accepted custody of the dogs and moved them to their headquarters in Michigan. Dorson says it’s a shame something like this happened…

The Louisiana Department of Health is still telling residents in Madison Parish not to drink the tap water if it comes from the Walnut Bayou Water System. The drinking water was exposed to a toxic herbicide primarily used for weed control. The do not use water advisory was issued last week and residents should continue to avoid using the water until all testing results are clear.
