A six run second inning last night helped LSU defeat Lamar 10-4. Nick Coomes and Josh Smith hit back-to-back home runs to start the rally. Lamar made it 6-4 in the fourth inning, but got no closer as Austin Bain, Nick Bush, Zach Hess and Hunter Newman all pitched well out of the bullpen. The Tigers are at Kentucky this Saturday. The Wildcats lead the SEC East with a 10-5 record.

In action tonight, Southeastern Louisiana is visiting the Ragin Cajuns. UL Lafayette blanked Tulane one to nothing last night. Louisiana Tech won a thriller over McNeese State last night. The Bulldogs scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for an eight to seven win. Tonight the Bulldogs are at Little Rock. and Tulane hosts Southern Miss.

In softball action….16th ranked LSU ended a four game losing streak with a five to two win over Northwestenr State. The Tigers are 33-12 and ranked 16th in the ESPN.com-USA Softball. UL Lafayette is ranked 18th.

Former LSU basketball coach Johnny Jones has a new job. Jones has accepted an assistant coaching job at Nevada. Eric Musselman is the head coach of the Wolfpack and he served as an assistant for Jones in the 2014-15 seasons. Former LSU Tiger Ronald Dupree is also an assistant at Nevada.

Junior college combo guard Daryl Edwards has signed a national letter of intent with LSU. He shot 47-percent from three at Northwest Florida State College a year ago and averaged nearly 14 points a game. Edwards chose the Tigers over Iowa State, Utah and UNLV.

Shreveport Representative Cedric Glover has a bill that would end the partnerships that LSU and UL Lafayette have with local breweries. Those two schools have been able to trademark their own beers and receive a cut of the sales. Glover says these beer partnerships encourage drinking by the schools and it’s a bad look even though it means money…

Bill Davis nine people, including four females, traveled in from Little Rock in the back of a U-Haul. Davis says a local man allowed his apartment to be rented out for prostitution.

On the eve of this deadline, Baton Rouge Representative Steve Carter has put a bill in the hopper that would increase the state’s gasoline tax by 17-cents. Carter says if approved, his tax hike would generate about 500-million dollars a year…

The House Education Committee approves a bill that would allow public school students to bring sunscreen to school and apply it on their own. Ville Platte Representative Harvey LeBas says skin cancer is a major problem and the goal of his bill is to protect kids from sunburns when they go outside for school activities.

Bossier Parish Sheriff deputies arrest five individuals from Little Rock and a Bossier City teen for their role in sex trafficking case, where the victims were brough into Louisiana in a U-haul truck. Lt. Bill Davis says 18-year-old Antwan Lay of Bossier City is the local man arrested for letting the prostitution take place at his apartment…

The DeSoto Parish Coroner’s office says Cameron Anthony Hernandez from Diana, Texas, was killed when a tank exploded near Mansfield yesterday. A crew was working at the site to clean damage caused by a recent storm.

The Caddo Sheriff’s Office says a nearly 11 foot long alligator shut down traffic on La Highway 1 for nearly an hour early this morning. They said a passer by reported the gator sighting in the middle of the road about 330am and that its tail had been run over by an 18-wheeler. Trappers were called to remove the animal.

The proposed law would require the state to use at least 50-percent of the proceeds, over the first 20 years, to begin construction on mega projects, like a new Mississippi River Bridge in Baton Rouge. Carter says if signed into law, his tax hike would generate about 500 million dollars a year.

A group representing small businesses oppose the increase because many do not believe the funds would go to better roads. There’s also just a general opposition at the capitol to any higher taxes. Carter says when the bill comes up for debate, they’ll provide detailed information on how a higher gasoline tax will benefit the state.

Six people have been arrested in Bossier City for human trafficking as a result of an undercover prostitution operation. Bossier Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Lt. Bill Davis says nine people, including four females, traveled in from Little Rock in the back of a U-Haul. Davis says a local man allowed his apartment to be rented out for prostitution.

Davis says the two girls who asked to be rescued from the situation hadn’t eaten in 24 hours and authorities were able to connect them with an organization that helps victims of human trafficking. He says undercover agents performed a sting operation at a Bossier City apartment.

Davis says four Little Rock men were arrested on multiple charges, including pandering and prompting prostitution. He says Antwan Lay, an 18-year-old Bossier City man, was charged with letting premises for prostitution.

Glover says in Louisiana, you can’t drink under the age of 21, which applies to most college students. He says schools branding their own alcohol only encourages underage drinking.

But Glover says there should be some limit in terms of what we’re willing to do for money in this state. He says lawmakers need to fund priorities higher education so universities aren’t forced to look for other revenue streams.

A judge rejects a motion for a new trial for Cardell Hayes, the man convicted of manslaughter in the shooting death of former Saints star Will Smith. Hayes attorneys had a man testify that he heard two different gunshots on the night Smith was killed, but testimony was reportedly bizarre and now Hayes is set to be sentenced on Friday.

LSU scored six runs in the second inning last night and went on to beat Lamar 10-4. Nick Coomes and Josh Smith hit back-to-back home runs to start the rally. Lamar made it 6-4 in the fourth inning, but got no closer as Austin Bain, Nick Bush, Zach Hess and Hunter Newman all pitched well out of the bullpen.

After a tough stretch, Louisiana Tech has won seven of its last ten as they edged McNeese State eight to seven. Jordan Washam’s RBI double in the ninth inning produced a walk-off win for the Bulldogs, who are now 24-13. McNeese falls to 26-10.

ULM edged Grambling four to three, Northwestern State thumped Prairie View 16-1, Southern Miss doubled up Nicholls 16-8 and UL Lafayette blanked Tulane one to nothing. It’s the eighth shutout of the season for the Cajuns, who have won four straight. Colten Schmidt was the winning pitcher, Dylan Moore earned the save. Kennon Fontenot drove in the winning run with a bases loaded walk.

LSU’s spring football game is Saturday night at 7:00. Tigers offensive tackle K.J, Malone says there’s definitely a different about this spring game and it’s not just because it will be played under the lights in Death Valley…

Legislation to shorten the waiting period to get divorce for couples with minor children has been approved by a House committee. Homer Representative Patrick Jefferson’s bill would reduce the waiting period from a year to six months. He says this is what’s best for the kids…:
