The Louisiana SPCA says think twice before giving a live rabbit as a gift for the Easter holiday. After a month or so, shelters usually see an uptick in the number of people turning in bunnies. Louisiana SPCA spokesperson Alicia Haefel Vile says if you find you can’t care for a rabbit, don’t let the animal try to survive in the wild….

Louisiana’s minimum wage will not be changing anytime soon. The House Labor committee rejected a measure that would have implemented a 15-dollar an hour minimum wage. On Tuesday, the Senate also killed a bill to raise the minimum wage from the current level of $7.25. Business groups oppose the legislation, because they say it will lead to higher costs for consumers.

Ride sharing companies like Uber and Lyft may soon be regulated by the state rather than parishes or cities in Louisiana. A bill to create statewide regulations over Uber drivers has been introduced. Uber spokesperson Nick Juliano says Louisiana has been lagging behind other states when it comes to regulations.

Juliano says by creating statewide rules for ridesharing companies, it will allow all of Louisiana to have access to Uber.

Most of those arrested were men and as old as 68-years-old. A juvenile was also arrested.

If you plan on giving a rabbit as a gift during this Easter weekend, make sure it’s not able to reproduce, because rabbits have a quick reproduction cycle…

Currently individual parishes and cities control the Uber and Lyft rules. This puts control of the ride share companies under the blanket of the state.

Your child may ask for a rabbit as a pet for their very own Easter bunny. But it may not be the right fit for your family. Alicia Haefele-Vile with the Louisiana SPCA says a rabbit is like having a dog or cat, but with much more care…

Haefele-Vile says neutering or spaying is extremely important in care for your rabbit. Rabbits have a quick reproduction cycle, so if you don’t, you will have more rabbits than you can handle…

Shelters usually after a month or so after Easter see a rash of bunnies turned in. Haefele-Vile says if you find you can’t care for the rabbit, under no circumstances should you let the rabbit loose in the wild…

On an eight to six vote, The House Agriculture Committee approved a bill by Carencro Representative Julie Emerson repealing the requirement for a Louisiana florist to be licensed.  Louisiana is the only state that requires florists to take a written exam and be approved.  She says florists will still need a permit, but her bill eliminates a 40 question written test…

Committee Chairman Clay Schexnayder of Gonzales is afraid if the requirement to license florists is done away with, it will be bad news for consumers…

Ag Commissioner Mike Strain says 70-percent pass the florist’s exam on the initial try and those who take it a second time usually pass. Emerson says it’s time to take down the barriers keeping florists out of the marketplace…

Authorities have released the names, with ages ranging from 68 years-old to a juvenile. Shreveport Police Corporal Angie Willhite says the charges involve a wide range of criminal behavior.

The operation, named “Slick John” arrested people from seven different states as far away as Nebraska. Willhite says the sting involved officers from the FBI, Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Task Force, Louisiana ATC, and the Greenwood Police Department.

Willhite says the bust was part of the ongoing effort to fight human trafficking in the Bayou State.

Former LSU and Rummel standout Craig Steltz has filed a lawsuit against the NFL because of traumatic brain injuries he suffered while playing for the Bears. Steltz played in Chicago from 2008 to 2014 and the suit says he sustained repetitive and traumatic concussive head impacts. The suit says Steltz is seeking unspecified damages.

Legislation that eliminates the need for florists to have an occupational license passed out of the House Ag committee today on an eight to six vote. Governor John Bel Edwards is seeking legislative approval for his plan on how to spend 123 million dollars in surplus money from the last fiscal year. If he has his way, 40 million dollars of the excess would be dumped into transportation projects…

Because of the Easter weekend, LSU’s SEC series with Mississippi State begins tonight at Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers have scored just nine runs in the last four games . Following Wednesday night’s 3-1 loss to U-L Lafayette, Coach Paul Mainieri met with right fielder Antoine Duplantis. The Lafayette native grounded out to end the game with the tying run at second base. Duplantis says they talked about having a better approach when runners are in scoring position….

New Orleans native and six time major league baseball All-star Rusty Staub has passed away at the age of 73. Staub played in the majors for 23 years with four teams and he was a fan favorite for both the Montreal Expos and New York Mets.

Today is opening day for Major League Baseball. Alex Bregman and the Houston Astros begin defense of their World Series title by facing the Texas Rangers in Arlington. Former LSU standout Aaron Nola gets the opening day start for the Phillies, who are in Atlanta.

Tight end Benjamin Watson is back with the Saints as he’s agreed to a one-year contract with the Black and Gold. Watson last played for the Saints, when he caught 74 passes. Watson spent the last two years with the Baltimore Ravens.

In other NFL news, if a team wants to trade for former LSU star Odell Beckham Junior, it will reportedly cost that team at least two first round draft picks to make a deal with the New York Giants. Beckham will reportedly not take the field this year without a new contract.

The Pelicans are in Cleveland tonight to face LeBron James and the Cavaliers. King James had 41 points last night in a win over Charlotte. New Orleans is looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The Pels are tied for fifth place in the West heading into tonight’s matchup on ESPN.

Today is opening day in Major League Baseball. Former LSU star Aaron Nola gets the opening day start for the Phlliies against the Atlanta Braves. Nola was 12-and-11 last season with a 3-point-five-four E-R-A. First pitch is at 3:10.

The House Natural Resources Committee approved a bill requested by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to increase the price of hunting licenses to 20 dollars and fishing licenses to $13.50. LDWF Secretary Jack Montoucet says the current fees do not pay for what the department needs going forward.

The bill is projected to generate an additional 10 million dollars annually. Erath Representative Blake Miguez opposed the fee hike. He says people in his district are suffering from a lagging oil industry and don’t want to see costs go up on their favorite hobby…

Ben Watson is back with the New Orleans Saints as he’s signed a one-year contract with the Black and Gold. The 37-year-old is coming off a good season with the Baltimore Ravens, where he caught 61 passes for 522 yards and four touchdowns. Watson played for the Saints from 2013-15. In 2015, he caught 74 passes, but tore his achilles tendon the next season.

Coach Sean Payton said at the NFL owners meetings that there biggest needs are an edge rusher, tight end and wide receiver. Could New Orleans be in the market for a back-up quarterback? Payton says he’s impressed with former Heisman winner and Louisville standout Lamar Jackson….

The Pelicans will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they visit Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers tomorrow night. New Orleans lost to Portland 107 to 103 last night, despite 36 points from Anthony Davis. The Pels are 43-32 eason and tied for 5th place in the Western Conference with San Antonio. The Thunder are one game ahead of New Orleans.

The LHSAA has issued a one-time waiver that will allow Lafayette High pole vaulter Mondo Duplantis to compete in the elite division of the Texas Relays on Saturday. There was concern the world junior record-holder would no longer be able to compete in high school events, if he partcipated in this weekend’s event in Texas.

LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri says he takes responsibility for how his team is playing. The Tigers lost for a second time this season to the Ragin Cajuns when UL Lafayette upended LSU 3-1 last night in Metairie. LSU also lost a series last weekend to Vanderbilt. Tomorrow they host Mississippi State.

Turkey Creek Police Chief Robert Glenn Leggett is in serious condition after he was stabbed in the face while attempting to make an arrest in Evangeline Parish. The sheriff’s office says 24-year-old Zackery Deville stabbed Chief Legett with a knife during a struggle. Deville has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Harvey Representative Rodney Lyons legislation to give certain autism patients the opportunity to take prescribed medical marijuana received approval from a House committee today. The Democrat from the New Orleans area says there are a lot of families struggling with an autism patient and medical marijuana could be their answer to a better life…

Approved marijuana pharmacies are expected to open later this month. Under current law, only patients with cancer, AIDS, seizure disorders, Chron’s disease, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis can be prescribed medical marijuana.

A large portion of the state is under a tornado watch until 9 PM tonight and there’s also a flash flood watch in effect until tomorrow morning for central and north Louisiana. Matthew Duplantis is a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Shreveport….
