Former LSU star Eric Reid has found employment. The Carolina Panthers has inked the safety from Dutchtown High School to a one-year contract. Reid signed a collusion grievance against the NFL in May after he went unsigned during the free agency period. Reid is a former starting safety with the 49ers and has not stood during the National Anthem. Reid said back in March he was willing to stop the National Anthem protests, but remain active off the field when it comes to highlighting and stopping social injustice.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron said during his radio show last night he expects injured starting offensive guard Garrett Brumfield will miss at least a couple of weeks. True freshmen Chasen Hines from Marshall, Texas will take Brumfield’s place in the starting line up.

There’s a good NFL game on tonight as the 3-0 Rams host the Minnesota Vikings. A couple of former LSU Tigers will compete against each other in this one, defensive end Danielle Hunter for the Vikings, Andrew Whitworth for the Rams.

Louisiana Tech threw the football well last week against LSU, can they do it again this Saturday against North Texas, who leads college football with 10 interceptions. Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz says the Mean Green are very aggressive in the secondary….

A Pro-choice group filed a lawsuit against the 2014 law claiming it would make it difficult if not impossible for a women to get an abortion in this state. But one of the appellate judges said there’s no evidence that any Louisiana clinic would close because of this law.

Shots rang out just before 1 AM in downtown Hammond as State Police say one of their troopers had to use their weapon on a suspect during a traffic stop. The man died at a local hospital, while the trooper was not injured. No other details are available at this time.

And Four Troopers were injured yesterday in Alexandria during a high speeds chase involving a juvenile driver.

The NFL’s updated roughing the passer rule is the league’s big controversy for this season in an attempt to protect the quarterback, 34 roughing the passer flags have been thrown through the season’s first three weeks, compared to just 16 a year ago. Saints Coach Sean Payton, who sits on NFL’s competition committee, says the flag should be thrown when a player intentionally places all his weight on the quarterback, but flags have been thrown when they should have stayed in the refs pocket

A new poll for the Secretary of State’s special election in November is out, with Democrat Renee Fontenot Free in the lead, followed by Republicans Julie Stokes and Rick Edmonds. The poll, by JMC Analytics, was commissioned by Edmonds. Pollster John Couvillion says the early lead for a Democrat in a red state isn’t surprising, considering how many republicans are running.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week today after throwing for 396 yards and three touchdowns in the 43-37 win over the Falcons. During the game, Brees set an NFL record for most career completions and just needs 417 yards to overtake Peyton Manning for most passing yards.

5th ranked LSU will face one of the top passing games in the SEC this Saturday when they take on Ole Miss. The Rebels are averaging 348 yards per game through the air. Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu has thrown 10 touchdown passes to just three interceptions and his top receiver, A-J Brown has caught 26 passes. Tigers Cornerback Greedy Williams says they have to stop Ta’amu through the air and on the ground….

Last year, LSU beat Ole Miss 40-24 and they held A-J Brown to just four catches for 39 yards.

After beating Sam Houston State for the first time 13 years, the 15th ranked Nicholls State Colonels are back home this Saturday to host Lamar. Nicholls is looking to go 2-1 in the league against a Cardinals team that’s 1-and-3 overall.

McNeese will try to improve its league record to 3-0 as they’ll host Stephen F Austin on Saturday at 6 PM in Cowboy Stadium. Northwestern State will travel to Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions are 1-1 in league play, while the Demons, who were off last week, are 1-0.

Grambling State Coach Broderick Fobbs is sticking with Aldon Clark as his starting quarterback, even though he threw for just 37 yards in last week’s shutout win over Alabama State. Clark and the Tigers are in Dallas this Saturday for their annual matchup with Prairie View A-and-M in the State Fair Classic.

Southern is 2-2 on the season, even though they have a turnover ratio of negative six. The Jaguars host one of the SWAC’s best teams at Mumford Stadium on Saturday when they face Alcorn State for a 6 PM kickoff.
