Thanks to a successful run in the SEC Tournament, the LSU Tigers will hear their name called when the NCAA Regional Brackets are unveiled today. The Tigers went 4-2 in Hoover, but it finished off in disappointing fashion with a 9-1 loss to Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament. But outfielder Daniel Cabrera says it was still a successful week…

The Tigers will not be hosting. The 16 regional sites were unveiled last night and LSU did not get one. So the Bayou Bengals will be on the road for a regional for the first time since 2010.

Will Louisiana Tech be in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs went 1-and-2 in the Conference USA Tournament.

Northwestern State won its first ever Southland Conference Tournament Championship as the Demons defeated UNO on Saturday night in Sugar Land, Texas. David Fry hit a tie-breaking home run in the seventh inning. Demons Head Coach Bobby Barbier says Fry has been their leader all season….

Northwestern State is in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history.

Coastal Carolina won the Sun Belt Tournament in Lafayette. And Coastal is one of the 16 host sites.

Top-seeded LSU-Eunice defeated Brunswick Community College nine to nothing to begin play in the Division Two junior college national championship. Zach Hester threw a complete game and struck out 14. Mason Templet hit a three run homer. The Bengals play Northern Oklahoma College at 4 PM today.

The nation observes its 47th federally recognized Memorial Day today. The tradition memorializes those who died while serving in the US Military. Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs spokesperson Alex Juan is asking people to keep in mind what that means for Gold Star Families who have lost a loved one in service to our country.

Juansays visiting one of the eight veterans cemeteries in Louisiana is an apporpriate way to recognize the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

An eleven-year-old girl was killed in a police chase in Opelousas on Sunday morning and authorities are looking for two men she was with prior to her death. The family of Bryla Bell say she snuck out of the home and got into a truck with two people inside. When Opelousas Police approached the vehicle, two men jumped out and the girl took the wheel of the vehicle and which eventually struck an embankment and she died.

The summer swim season has begun, but unfortunately the C-D-C has to respond to U-S Recreational Water Illness outbreaks. Michele Hlavsa (Hill-lav-sa) says there’s one spot that seems to be teeming with nasty bacteria that could ruin a vaction and that’s a hotel pool….

Hundreds of thousands of service men and women have died since 1776, and Juan says if you haven’t had a chance to honor one of them at a veteran’s cemetery, today is the day to do it.

Baton Rouge is hosting a large scale tribute this morning to the tens of thousands from Louisiana who have died serving in the armed forces. It’s called Hero Hump, a six mile ruck run from the LSU Memorial Tower to the Capital Gardens. Juan says it’s a great opportunity to honor the fallen.

GOP House Caucus Chairman Lance Harris’ tax bill that would fill 360 of the state’s 648 million dollar budget shortfall is expected to come up for a vote today after falling seven votes short on Friday. The proposal would renew a third of the expiring penny sales tax, and eliminate some sales tax breaks. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the weekend gave lawmakers a chance to discuss options…

Pinsonat says Harris’ bill was a long shot to pass on Friday. He says at least now everyone knows where each legislator stands on this particular bill.

It won’t just be Republicans who are scrambling to build a consensus. The Democratic Black Caucus has been firmly against any renewal of the expiring penny sales tax. Pinsonat says to reach the 70 votes needed for any tax bill, the Black Caucus will have to be on board.

The LSU Tigers are very close to advancing to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament. They were leading Florida 10-0 in the sixth inning last night when a thick fogged rolled in and halted play. The game will resume at 10 AM this morning and if LSU can get three outs in the seventh inning without Florida scoring, they will win by mercy rule.

Louisiana Tech was bounced from the Conference USA Tournament as the Bulldogs lost to 27th ranked Florida Atlantic 8-6. Tech grabbed a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning, but couldn’t overcome a four-run 4th inning. Tech waits to see if its 39-20 record is good enough to make the NCAA Tournament. The field is revealed on Monday.

Ugly end to the Sun Belt Tournament for the Ragin Cajuns. After winning their first game 19-16, they lost 10-1 to Troy and then fell to Texas State 11-1 last night. UL Lafayette not expected to receive an NCAA Tournament bid.

Northwestern State is in the Southland Tournament title game for the first time since 2006 after beating seventh-seeded Nicholls three to two. The third seeded Demons scored two runs in the eighth inning. Southland Conference Player of the Year David Fry tied the game with an RBI triple and scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice. Jose Vasquez struck out the side in the 9th inning for his fourth save of the year.

The Demons will play either UNO or Houston Baptist in the Southland Tournament Championship game which will begin at 6 PM. The Huskies beat the Privateers 4-3 in 12 innings in a game that ended early this morning. UNO’s Orynn Veillon hit a two-run homer in the 8th inning to tie the game. A rematch with Houston Baptist begins at 1 o’ clock in Sugar Land, Texas.

The LSU softball team is one win away from advancing to its fourth straight Women’s College Series after holding on for a six to five win over Florida State.  Game two of the best of three series is at 4 PM today.

After a rough go of it during the regular season, the LSU baseball team is having success in the SEC Tournament. They beat South Carolina 6-4 in 12 innings last night thanks to the heroic effort of Todd Peterson, who pitched five innings to get the win and then hit a two-run double in his first collegiate at-bat, which proved to be the winning runs. Coach Paul Mainieri is glad his guys are experiencing success…

LSU is 2-1 in the SEC Tournament and face Florida again tonight, who beat the Tigers on Wednesday. The loser goes home, the winner advances to the semifinals. Expect a late start as the rain is coming down hard in Hoover, Alabama.

Louisiana Tech and UL Lafayette are scheduled to play in elimination games tonight. The Bulldogs play F-A-U for the first time this season, after eliminating F-I-U last night. The Cajuns take on Texas State after losing to Troy 10-1 last night.

Nicholls State scored five runs in the ninth inning to upset Southeastern Louisiana seven to six. The Lions go 0-2 in the Southland and will likely not make the NCAA Tournament. Northwestern State and UNO are both 2-0 in this tournament.

The measure would result in consumers paying a state sales tax of 4.3 percent after July 1st and it’s expected to generate 370-million dollars in revenue, but the shortfall is pegged at 648-million. Public Affairs Research Council President Robert Travis Scott says the bill is the best opportunity at reducing the proposed cuts within state government….

The LSU baseball team will take on Florida tonight in an elimination game at the SEC Tournament. The Gators lost to Arkansas earlier today.

It’s not even hurricane season and we already have our first named storm. Subtropical storm Alberto has formed near the Yucatan Peninsula and the five day forecast has southeast Louisiana in the cone of uncertainity for landfall early next week. Phil Grigsby is with the National Weather Service in Slidell and he says heavy rainfall is Alberto’s main threat….

The State Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate the explosion at the Proctor and Gamble plant in Pineville claimed the life of a Jena man. An earlier report from Proctor and Gamble said that there was no plant explosion, and the death was related to a forklift incident, but State Fire Marshal office spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says investigators have confirmed that a smaller scale explosion did occur….

The State Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate the explosion at the Proctor and Gamble plant in Pineville claimed the life of a Jena man. The incident occurred early Thursday morning. Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says the explosion was contained to the incident area.

An earlier report from Proctor and Gamble said that there was no plant explosion, and the death was related to a forklift incident, but Rodrigue says investigators have confirmed that a smaller scale explosion did occur.

The coroner has identified the victim as 56-year-old Allen Kendrick, who was the director of the LaSalle Parish Community Choir and former Jena High Band Director.

Law enforcement will be ramping up their Click it Or Ticket seatbelt awareness and ticketing campaign over the Memorial Day weekend, to remind drivers about road safety. Louisiana Highway Safety Commission Spokesperson Mark Lambert says while they do anticipate an increase in tickets, that’s not necessarily the goal of the campaign.

A recent report showed that drivers are more likely to not wear a seatbelt when driving at night. Lambert says that won’t keep troopers from spotting an unbuckled driver, or rider, this weekend.

13 percent of drivers have admitted in surveys to not wearing their seatbelts. Lambert says the holiday weekend would be a great time to start a potentially lifesaving behavior change.

It was like a scene out of a movie. LSU’s Todd Peterson, who had not hit in a compeititive game since middle school, came up in the 12th inning of an SEC Tournament game against South Carolina, and belted a two-run double down the left field line. The shocking hit helped give the Tigers a 6-4 win over the Gamecocks. Peterson sounded like a confident man in the post game while Coach Paul Mainieri was still in disbelief…

Peterson also threw five innings of relief for his first win of the season. The Tigers will play another elimination game tonight against either South Carolina or Florida. Those two teams are playing this morning. Matthew Beck will start on the mound for LSU and it’s scheduled to begin around 6:30.

Northwestern State and UNO are both 2-0 in the Southland Tournament. The Demons will play again at 4 PM against the winner of this morning’s game between Southeastern and Nicholls State.

The Ragin Cajuns faces Texas State in an elimination game tonight after losing 10-1 to Troy. Louisiana Tech has an elimination game at 4 PM today after beating F-I-U seven to five last night.

The Saints are getting a chance to see what they have with their rookies with O-T-A sessions. Coach Sean Payton says rookie Boston Scott from Louisiana Tech has done some good things…

The first named storm of the season has formed at the edge of the Caribbean Sea, and his name is Alberto. Alberto is expected to develop into a tropical storm, and could put Memorial Day weekend plans at risk for folks across the gulf coast. National Weather Service Slidell Forecaster Phil Grigsby says the five-day forecast shows Alberto could impact Louisiana
