Don’t expect Senator John Kennedy to reconsider his decision to enter the race. Kennedy said earlier this week that he hasn’t had any second thoughts.

We are in another brutal run of summer heat with little rain in sight and heat indexes over 100 degrees baking the Bayou State for the next week. State Climatologist Barry Keim says a high-pressure system in the Gulf has stabilized the atmosphere and pushing humid Gulf air onto land.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality has also issued an ozone action day for parts of the state.

An innovation in pet food will help dogs and cats lose weight without eating less. The technology patented by LSU Pennington Biomedical scientists speeds up the metabolism process of the animals. One of the inventors, Dr. Frank Greenway, says a restriction of an amino acid in food results in a pet burning more calories and reducing body fat.

Uber is now operating statewide and Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce President Deborah Randolph says this is a huge development for cenLA, especially for military personnel at Fort Polk in Leesville. Randolph says many of those who live on the military base do not have a vehicle…

An 18-year-old from West Monroe has died from a rollover crash that took place on Wednesday night on L-A Highway 151. State Police say Nathan Snyder was not buckled up and ejected.

And a Sabine Parish man has died in a motorcycle wreck at Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. Investigators say 50-year-old Clyde Anders of Pleasant Hill lost control of his motorcycle and hit another motorcycle and then crashed into an SUV.

Pennington Biomedical scientists in Baton Rouge have developed a new pet food that has been patented that lets dogs and cats lose weight without eating less. The Slim Health pet food is not yet available commercially and Doctor Frank Greenway says there’s nothing like this on the market for humans…

Funeral arrangements have been set for U-L Lafayette baseball coach Tony Robichaux. Visitation is Sunday from three to nine pm at the Cajundome Convention Center. The rosary will be prayed at 7 PM. There will also be a visitation period on Monday from 10 AM to 2 PM at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. The funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of Fatima at 2 PM. The gates outside of Russo Park have become a memorial for the beloved Ragin Cajuns coach for 25 years as fans and members of the community have placed flowers and cards there.

Zion Williamson will be in a Pelicans uniform tonight as New Orleans summer league team takes on the New York Knicks in a game you can see on ESPN at 8:30 PM. Williamson will be facing his old college teammate as the Knicks first round pick R-J Barrett will suit up for New York. Three players who played on last year’s team, will join Williamson, Frank Jackson, Kenrich Williams and Christian Wood.

Former LSU star DJ LeMahieu had one hit yesterday, but it was a big one for the New York Yankees. LeMahieu’s single to left field in the 10th inning snapped a three-three tie as the Yankees went on to beat Tampa Bay eight to four. New York has won nine out of its last ten.

Former LSU Tiger Alex Bregman will compete in Monday’s Major League Baseball Home Run Derby. Bregman will face the Dodgers Joc Pederson in the first round at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Bregman lost in the first round of last year’s Home Run Derby and he has 23 round trippers this season to lead the first place Astros.

The Tigers have placed former LSU Tiger Jacoby Jones on the 10-day disabled list with a lower back strain. The 27-year-old Jones is hitting .244 with nine home runs and 23 RBIs this season.

And Sunday at 10 AM it will be the United States versus the Netherlands in the Women’s World Cup Final in France.

The new statewide regulation ridesharing law is set to be a boon for Fort Polk soldiers and others who are looking to get off the base and travel to Alexandria and other nearby cities. Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce President Deborah Randolph says Alexandria International Airport is the only airport in the region, but up until this week, rideshare companies couldn’t operate there.

KTBS-TV reports Shreveport City Council member LeVette Fuller was arrested early Thursday morning for driving while intoxicated and texting while driving. The 41-year-old city councilwoman was pulled over near her home. Fuller was released from jail on her own recognizance.

Blanco served as governor from 2004 to 2008. She did not seek a second term because of mounting criticism for her administration’s handling of the recovery from two devastating hurricanes. But Blanco says, in the end, Louisiana became a better state

New HIV cases in the state drop to their lowest numbers in over a decade according to the Louisiana Health Department, with a 12% decline in newly diagnosed cases over the past three years.  Assistant Secretary of Public Health  Dr. Alex Billioux says it is possible the H-I-V cases have dropped to the lowest rate since the 80’s.

In 2018, 989 cases were diagnosed.  Billioux says several factors contribute toward the decrease in the spread of the disease, including expanding testing and moving faster to get those infected on the medications they need soon.

Billioux says there are still hurdles to clear in dropping the number of new cases even further as many people still do not want to be tested.

Independence day kicks off tomorrow and pyromaniacs are crowding firework stands to celebrate America’s independence with a boom.

Every year folks get busted for shooting fireworks in jurisdictions where it’s outlawed, so how can you be sure it’s legal in your area? State Fire Marshal Butch Browning says you can call your city and parish authorities, but there’s an easier way…

Fireworks are prohibited anywhere in East Baton Rouge or Orleans Parish, and a number of other large cities in the state.

When you walk into the stand, make sure you check for the Fire Marshal’s permit to know you’re getting a safe product, and Browning says don’t buy off the back of some guy’s truck…

Once you’re ready to start firing off the pyrotechnics, Browning says make sure you have two things close by…

He adds, don’t hold fireworks, don’t operate them if you’ve been drinking, make sure you have at least 200 feet of open space to fire in, and have a metal bucket for the remains of discharged fireworks.

Iconic UL Lafayette Baseball Coach Tony Robichaux has died after undergoing multiple surgeries following a heart attack. The voice of the Ragin Cajuns Jay Walker says their hearts are shattered, but their faith is not, which is what Coach Robe would want during this time of sorrow

Robichaux was 57. The Crowley native suffered a heart attack on June 23rd and had two surgeries.

After eight seasons as the head coach at McNeese State, Robichaux became the head coach in Lafayette in 1995. He led the Cajuns to the College World Series in 200 and won over 900 games at U-L. Walker says the program’s success led to the construction of one of the finest college baseball stadiums in the country…

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Pelicans have re-signed small forward Darius Miller to a two-year contract worth 14.25 million dollars. Which doubles what he made a season ago, but the second year of the contract is not guaranteed. Miller averaged eight points a game last season in 69 games. He gives New Orleans another shooter.

The Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly offered former LSU star Ben Simmons a max contract extension, which will pay him 170-million dollars over five years. Simmons is set to make eight-million dollars this year.

LSU Basketball Coach Will Wade has filled out his coaching staff with the hiring of Kevin Nickelberry. Nickelberry was an assistant coach at Clemson when Wade was a student manager. Most recently, Nickelberry was the head coach at Howard.

Southeastern Louisiana has named David Kiefer as its new men’s basketball coach. Kiefer has been the program’s associate head coach for the past three seasons.

Louisiana Tech is moving forward with plans to demolish their tornado damaged soccer, baseball, and softball facilities. Athletics Director Tommy McClelland says discussions are underway where those teams will play next season. Soccer can play at a nearby rec park, while baseball and softball could be forced to play “home” games outside of Ruston.

And McClelland says they’ve begun plans to construct new facilities, and they’ve hired an architect familiar with stadium construction to build something fans will be proud of.

About one-thousand people showed up for a prayer service and Rosary at Russo Park last night for longtime U-L Lafayette baseball coach Tony Robichaux. The 57-year-old is in the I-C-U in a New Orleans hospital after undergoing multiple surgeries following a heart attack.

Former LSU pitcher Aaron Nola was outstanding for the Phillies last night as he threw eight shutout innings and struck out eight as Philadelphia blanked Atlanta two to nothing.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office announces the arrest of two volunteer firefighters for their connection to three fires in Webster and Claiborne parishes. Matthew Crane of Springhill and Montana Ludlum of Cullen have reportedly confessed to there involvement.

Beginning today, Uber will be available in every parish in Louisiana as a result of a statewide rideshare law passed in the 2019 legislative session. Uber south spokesperson Trevor Theunissen says Uber has been operating in Louisiana’s largest cities, but no rules were in place for rural or suburban communities…

There’s good news in the state’s battle to reduce the number of H-I-V cases. There were 989 people diagnosed with H-I-V in 2018, which is the lowest number in more than a decade and the number of newly diagnosed H-I-V cases has declined 12-percent over the last three years. State health officials also say there’s also been an increase in the number of people receiving medical care within 30 days of their diagnosis.

Triple-A projects a record 48-point-nine million Americans will travel during the Fourth of July holiday. That’s a four-percent increase over last year. Triple-A spokesperson Don Redman credits an improved economy and friendly gas prices…

And that increase at the pump has occurred, as the statewide average is up seven cents over the last week to $2.38 a gallon for regular gasoline.
