The National Hurricane Center says a tropical depression or storm could form in the Gulf later this week and threaten the northern Gulf coast. National Weather Service meteorologist Donald Jones says it’s hard to predict how much development we’ll see from this disturbance, but a wet weekend is possible…

Jones says even though it’s October, the sea surface temperatures in the Gulf are still in the mid-80s, which is warm enough to support tropical storm development.

But state climatologist Jay Grymes says there are some factors that this developing storm will have to battle…
