A search for a mother and daughter who have been missing since late April is underway. Jordan Lippincott with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office says 39-year-old Danielle Lea and her ten-year-old daughter, Alayna, were reportedly last seen with 42-year-old James Nona, who was arrested in Montgomery County, Texas – just north of Houston – on unrelated charges.

The National Hurricane Center has given a low-pressure system off the coast of Africa a 60-percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next week. The 2026 hurricane season has produced two tropical storms so far, and Colorado State’s hurricane forecast team, along with NOAA, are predicting a below-normal season. The LSU football team opened its second week of fall practice today. Fifth-year senior Bo Bordelon is poised to start at left guard when the Tigers open the season. The Raceland native has made just one start in four seasons at LSU, but coach Lane Kiffin says he has learned the playbook quickly and impressed during the spring and summer.

Earlier this year, Louisiana saw its first decrease in auto insurance rates in five years, and State Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says they may not be done dropping. Temple says fewer accidents have resulted in fewer claims and less money paid out by insurance companies.

Temple says the decrease in accidents is part of a nationwide trend largely due to safety features in new vehicles.
