The accuser says the incident received a hearing in front of LSU’s Title Nine office, which led to a two-semester ban from campus for the alleged perpetrator. The accused player appealed and LSU reduced the punishment from a suspension to two year’s probation.

The Caddo Parish inmate who escaped last week during a visit to a Shreveport hospital, was captured yesterday in Texas. Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn says one reason why Tre’Veon Jackon escaped, there was only one deputy present when he was transported to the hospital…

Governor Jeff Landry issued an executive order to and allow Louisiana farmers and timber harvesters to use dyed diesel. The order suspends the penalty for using off-road fuel in highway-legal forest products and farm use vehicles. Richard Fontenot, president of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation, says he appreciates the governor’s effort.

The statewide average cost for diesel gasoline is $6.02, that’s about two-dollars and 50-cents higher than a year ago.

The governor’s office announces that the Office of Motor Vehicles has moved into the 21st century as Louisiana has replaced 50-year-old technology with a modern system designed to support driver licenses, ID cards, credential management and future digital government services. Governor Landry says this new platform will reduce wait times and improve reliability.

A former high school band director is arrested on juvenile sex allegations. The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office says the alleged victim, who’s now an adult, came forward and accused 56-year-old Kevin Williams of sexual abuse over the course of several years while in the Haughton High School band program. Bossier Schools says Williams is no longer employed by the district.

A Caddo Parish inmate who escaped from a deputy during a medical transport last Monda has been captured in Texas.  Sheriff Henry Whitehorn announced last night that 24-year old Tre’veon Jackson was arrested in Marshall, Texas, by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force. Jackson was being held in the Harrison County Jail on federal charges, awaiting extradition to Caddo Parish.

Commodity prices are on the rise. That’s helping farmers absorb the higher costs of things like fuel and fertilizer, but economists aren’t sure how long the commodity rally will last. LSU AgCenter Economist Michael Deliberto notes that while farm commodities like corn, soybeans and rice have risen nearly 20-percent since January, fuel costs have risen a whopping 60-percent since March.

After eight days on the run, the Caddo Parish inmate who escaped last is back behind bars. Sheriff Henry Whitehorn says U-S Marshals Task Force members apprehended Tre’veon Jackson in Marshall, Texas last night.  The 24-year-old Jackson fled from custody on September 14th as a deputy was moving to put him into a transport van. Whitehorn says new policies have since been put in place to make sure this never happens again.

Veneeth Iyengar (EYE-in-gar), the executive director of Connect-L-A, says Louisiana more than tripled the national average in broadband access increase.

Speaking of tech improvements, Louisiana’s Office of Motor Vehicles has replaced 50 year old technology with a modern AI powered system. Louisiana contracted with CHAMP titles to replace OMV’s outdated legacy computer systems. Governor Jeff Landry says CHAMP gives the public a faster, simpler way to get the services they need. In a video announcement, Landry spoke with a 13-year employee at an OMV office in Baton Rouge.

The East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation into a reported rape involving an LSU student athlete. An LSU student has come forward claiming she was raped by a football player last October. Kendall Danielle say she reported the alleged sexual assault to LSU’s Title Nine office and the athlete was originally suspended from school for a year, but she says the football player was allowed back on campus. LSU president Wade Rousse says the incident has been handled professionally.

 

ULM will host FAU for homecoming on Saturday. Head Coach Bryant Vincent says some things will have to change after the Warhawks lost to Southeastern Louisiana. He says quarterback Aiden Armenta will have the opportunity to compete with Austin Carlisle to win the starting job back.

The Warhawks are looking to snap an eleven game losing streak.

Edna Karr has won 31 straight games and they are the undisputed number one ranked team in Class 5A after beating Ruston 21 to 14 on Saturday. The Bearkats are ranked second, followed by Alexandria Senior High.

The Saints begin preparations today for their home opener against the 2-0 Raiders. Las Vegas is getting good quarterback play from veteran Kirk Cousins and the Raiders have allowed just 27 points on defense.

Jackson’s capture comes after Whitehorn held a press conference yesterday afternoon to announce that prisoner transport policies were not followed properly when Jackson escaped custody.

New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno unveiled the city’s proposed 2027 budget Tuesday, which includes 77 million dollars in direct cuts, as the city works to close a roughly 100 million dollar deficit.  The proposal includes reductions across city government. But Moreno says it’s designed to protect several services that residents identified as priorities during a series of community meetings and surveys.

The Caddo Parish inmate who escaped last week while being transported from a Shreveport hospital has been captured in Texas. Sheriff Henry Whitehorn says U-S Marshals Task Force members apprehended Tre’veon Jackson in Marshall, Texas.

Jackson’s capture comes after Whitehorn held a press conference to announce that prisoner transport policies were not followed properly when Jackson fled from deputy custody. During a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Whitehorn highlighted some of the mistakes made.

Whitehorn says Jackson was a known escape risk, but yet only one deputy was present when he was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation.

The 24-year-old Jackson fled from custody on September 14th as a deputy was moving to put him into a transport van. He’s accused of fatally shooting another man in 2019. He was convicted late last year on an armed robbery charge.

LSU will need to bounce back from its SEC opener loss to Ole Miss against number-23 Texas A-and-M on Saturday. The Aggies also dropped their first game of conference play, so both teams will have a lot at stake if they want to achieve their College Football Playoff aspirations. Tigers wide receiver Winnie Watkins says it’s a long season.

Watkins has racked up 15 catches for 207 yards and two of quarterback Sam Leavitt’s three touchdowns. He is the only offensive starter who played under Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weis last season, so he says he needs to step up as a leader.

After a sluggish first half for the offense and missed opportunities late against the Rebels, Watkins says leaders have to step up on that side of the ball. He says Leavitt already has.

State Police arrest 32 people over the weekend in response to increased criminal activity in Ouachita and Morehouse parishes. State Trooper Ryan Davis says most of them were fugitives.

A Kenner business owner is accused of recording people inside the bathroom of his business. A woman discovered a camera mounted underneath the sink when she used the bathroom at the business owned by 57-year-old Henry Rios. Kenner Deputy Police Chief Mark McCormick says detectives seized three additional concealed surveillance cameras last week, and a search of those cameras uncovered some startling findings.

And McCormick says that’s likely just the tip of the iceberg, as detectives have also recovered 13 thumb drives, five memory cards and a hidden camera disguised as an LED alarm clock. 

Not everyone believes Governor Landry’s idea of halting diesel exports for 90 days is the answer to getting prices under control. In fact, the Louisiana Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association says that will only have the opposite effect. President Tommy Faucheux says diesel pipelines are already operating at capacity.

An LSU football player is under investigation by East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore for an alleged 2025 rape. LSU student Kendall Danielle said in a TikTok video that the alleged rape happened in October of last year on the same day LSU was at Vanderbilt. She says the unnamed player admitted to the assault during an LSU Title Nine investigation and was suspended by LSU for one year but has since been allowed to return to campus.

The Tigers are preparing to host No. 23 Texas A-and-M this weekend. Coach Lane Kiffin says the team will need to move on from its disheartening loss to Ole Miss.

In NFC South news, Falcons quarterback Michael Penix is set to return from a torn ACL as Atlanta takes on the Packers on Thursday night. Atlanta placed cornerback AJ Terrell on injured reserve, meaning he will not be available for the team’s trip to New Orleans in Week 4.

ULM head coach Bryant Vincent is looking to change things up as his team prepares for a homecoming matchup with FAU. He says the loss to Southeastern Louisiana hurt.

The player, whose name has not been made public, was suspended by LSU for one year but has since been allowed to return to campus.

State Police detectives are investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Jefferson Davis Parish. According to the preliminary investigation, deputies found a man lying in a ditch behind the gas station he’s suspected of robbing. They say when he charged at them with a knife, a deputy shot the man. The suspect is being treated at a hospital. No deputies were injured.
