The Louisiana State Supreme Court issued a stay in the indictment against Attorney General Liz Murril yesterday, less than 24 hours an Orleans Parish Grand Jury accused her of malfeasance and intimidation. The stay puts the case on hold, but Loyola University Law Professor Dan Ciolino says the state supreme court is allowing Murrill’s to file motions to quash the indictment. And he says it’s possible a lower court will rule in the Attorney General’s favor, because the grand jury violated several laws in the handling of this case…

LSU-Alexandria breaks ground on its new 43-million-dollar Health Education Campus. Dean of the College of Health and Human Services Dr. Ryan Riche (REE-shay), says the new 78-thousand-square-foot facility is designed to address the shortage of nurses in the area.

The U.S. Men’s National Team has a World Cup round-of-16 showdown with Belgium Monday night. Striker Folarin Balogun leads the team with three goals in three games, but the U.S will be missing its star against Belgium after he received a controversial red card against Bosnia. Louisiana Soccer Association reporter Paul Boron says it will be a massive loss, but the U.S. has talent behind him.

The LSU Tigers are two months away from their season opener against Clemson September 5. It’s the same matchup as the first game of last year’s campaign, but there will be a lot of new faces. The Tigers are, of course, now led by head coach Lane Kiffin, and Clemson brought back former coordinator Chad Morris to run the offense. The Advocate’s John Blau, who covered Clemson for six years, says two high-powered offenses will go head-to-head.
