Names have been released of the Shreveport man who killed two children and then himself Tuesday. Shreveport Police says 25-year-old Anthony Smith turned the gun on himself after shooting 23-month-old Ronnie Marter and 10-month-old Rose Marter all of Shreveport.  The shootings remain under investigation.

A new report released by TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit says 15-percent of rural roads are in poor condition and 14-percent of rural bridges are poor or structurally deficient. State Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson says we didn’t get in this position overnight and it won’t get fixed overnight but federal infrastructure funds along with more state funds should help.

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice says it has moved eight juvenile inmates to a new Youth facility at the state penitentiary at Angola. Four of the inmates are from the Swanson Center for Youth in Monroe and the other four are from a juvenile facility in St. Martinville. Ten youth offenders from the Bridge City Center in Jefferson Parish were sent to Swanson.

According to the National Transportation Research Group also known as TRIP, rural roads and bridges in Louisiana have significant deficiencies and the fatality rate on those roads is alarming. TRIP Spokesperson Carolyn Kelly says you’re more likely to get killed in a crash on a rural road in Louisiana versus the interstate.

One child died at the scene the other at a local hospital.

The Biden administration has tightened requirements for debt forgiveness. The US Department of Education now says borrowers with privately held federal student loans can’t apply for the relief. To be forgiven, the loans have to come from the Department of Education.   University of Louisiana System President Dr. Jim Henderson says the changes make sense

320-million in federal dollars is heading to Louisiana to bolster U-S battery manufacturing. 219-million dollars will go to Syrah Technologies in Vidalia which makes battery components for electric vehicles and another 100-million dollars will go to a chemical plant in St. Gabriel. Senator Bill Cassidy says the funding is the result of the federal infrastructure bill

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has reconsidered her trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina for a World Mayors Conference. Her Honor says she will not fly to South America, but will instead attend virtually. Cantrell has been ordered to repay the city the cost of upgrading plane fares for three trips abroad in the past four months to first class. She is also under an active recall petition.

Police in Shreveport say man kidnapped two small children, shot them both and then turned the gun on himself. The victims were both toddlers. Shreveport PD’s Sgt. Chris Bordelon says investigators have been piecing together what led to the tragedy…:

More federal bucks coming to Louisiana, which will mean new jobs. Vidalia’s Syrah Technologies will get about $220-million to manufacture electric vehicle batteries for Tesla. Senator Bill Cassidy says the money will help Louisiana build an economy for 2050, not just 2023…:

$100-million will flow to Kloura chemical in St. Gabriel, in Iberville Parish, will be the first U.S. manufacturing plant for lithium hexafluorophosphate; a battery component.

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a murder suicide Tuesday morning in Mandeville. Officers say 43-year-old Tara Brook called 9-1-1 and told them she’d just shot her daughter and was about to shoot herself. They then heard a gunshot. Responding officers found Brooks and the daughter, 23-year-old Brittany Buras, dead.
