Omar Serna is not on the injury report, which is a sign he’s good to go for this series after missing Tuesday night’s win against Tulane with a sore back. Pitcher Casan Evans is listed as questionable.

 

Louisiana Tech begins a three-game series tonight against Liberty. The Flames are second in the Conference USA standings with an 18-6 record. The Bulldogs are 15-9. Liberty has won its last seven Conference USA weekend series and they have one of the best pitchers in the league in Ben Blair.

ULM is also out east as the Warhawks are visiting Marshall. ULM is batting to get in the Sun Belt Tournament. The top ten teams make the league tournament and the Warhawks are in a four-way tie for tenth place. Marshall is in 9th place in the league standings with a 11-13 record.

The Ragin Cajuns who are 12-12 in league play are at App State, who is 15-9 in the Sun Belt and in third place.

Southeastern Louisiana is all alone in first place in the Southland after beating Nicholls 12 to 2. The Lions will be one of two host sites for the Southland tournament that begins next week.

And McNeese softball is one win away from an NCAA Tournament after beating Lamar 1 to nothing in 10 innings last night. Game two of the best of three series is tonight at 6 PM.

So far much of the discussion has been on a redrawn map that has two Majority-minority districts. But Jeremy Alford with La-politics-dot-com says there’s a possibility lawmakers approve a six district map where Democrats are unable to represent any of the districts…

For LSU to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive, the Tigers need to win this weekend’s series against fifth ranked Georgia. After losing nine straight SEC games, LSU has won five in a row overall. Catcher Cade Arrambide says the Tigers have found their confidence…

It will not be easy for the Tigers, the Bulldogs have one of the best offenses in the country and they lead the nation in home runs with 131. Georgia catcher Daniel Jackson has 23 home runs and 23 stolen bases.

Last night, Southeastern Louisiana clobbered Nicholls 12 to 2 and McNeese blanked Northwestern State one to nothing. Easton Dowell’s RBI double in the 11th inning was the game winner.

Michigan State point guard Divine Ugochukwu (OO-goh-CHOO-koo) has committed to the LSU Tigers. He’s six-foot-three and averaged five points a game last season for the Spartans. Ugochukwu started 12 games for Michigan State and the Spartans went 11-1. He suffered a foot injury in early February that ended his season.

The NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments are expanding from 68 teams to 76. That means Tuesday and Wednesday of men’s tournament will feature 12 games played by 24 teams in two different cities.

ULM softball ended the Cajuns season last night with a three to nothing victory in the Sun Belt Tournament. Ashanti McDade won her 18th game in the circle. The Warhawks will face South Alabama in the semis tonight.

La Tech stayed alive in the Conference USA tournament by beating New Mexico State three to one in 11 innings.

And McNeese took game one of their best out of three championship series by beating Lamar one to nothing in 10 innings.

State lawmakers begin discussion of Louisiana’s new congressional map this morning. Jeff Palermo has details.

The city of Shreveport marked the National Day of Prayer yesterday, with a special ceremony to honor the eight children killed in the Cedar Grove mass shooting last month.  Church bells rang across the city in a synchronized tribute to the young victims. A formal ceremony was held at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium to lead the community in reflection.
