The Shreveport Police Department and several other law enforcement agencies continue to search for the killer of 29-year-old Officer Thomas LaValley who was from St. Amant. The FBI and US Marshals have joined in offering a $25,000 reward. Investigators say LaValley was in full uniform in the line of duty when they believe 27-year-old Grover Cannon shot him multiple times. The officer died at a local hospital and Cannon remains on the run.

NOAA says there is now a 90% chance of a below-normal hurricane season in their updated 2015 forecast. Lead seasonal hurricane forecaster, Gerry Bell, says the atmospheric conditions like strong vertical wind shear come along with El Nino and low sea-surface temperatures are also making for this below average hurricane season:

State Police says some license plate shuffingly will be taking place soon as they are currently running out of combinations of three letters followed by three numbers. Three of the four gubernatorial candidates are currently at a forum in Baton Rouge talking about issues which impact older adults. Republicans Jay Dardenne and Scott Angelle are there and so is Democrat John Bel Edwards. Senator David Vitter is not able to be there. The State Troopers Association is hosting a forum on Saturday and all four candidates are expected to attend.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested 23-year-old Kaleb Clement of Paulina after he allegedly drove through two fences and on to the runway at Louis Armstrong airport in New Orleans. Colonel John Fortunato says luckily there were no planes on the tarmac during the incident, otherwise this could’ve ended much worse…

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Lake Charles man faces charges in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian. They say 27-year-old Jeremy Daniels was walking on the side of the road when he was struck and killed by a truck driven by 19-year-old Grant Henning. Henning, who fled the scene without rendering aid, is charged with felony hit-and-run.

Shreveport Police say they believe they know the identity of the gunman who killed a Shreveport police officer last night. A department spokesperson says the officer was responding to a call about an armed, suspicious person threatening people inside a home when the suspect opened fire, hitting the officer several times. The officer was pronounced dead at a local hospital. A manhunt for the suspect is ongoing.

The Louisiana Department of Education announces that high school students in the state earned more than 13-hundred more qualifying scores on Advanced Placement exams in 2015 than 2014. Superintendent John White says this is an 89 percent increase in scores from 2012.

A Shreveport Police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty last night. A police department spokesperson says the officer was responding to a call about a prowler suspect when someone opened fire. The officer was hit several time. He was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities believe they know the identity of the suspect and are searching for the gunman.

Governor Bobby Jindal is preparing to participate in today’s debate involving the second tier Republican Presidential candidates.
