Cut 1 (34) “…I’m Jeff Palermo.”
It was also a big night for Democrats in the U.S. Senate; as so far, they have flipped seven seats in that chamber, with the possibility of flipping two more by the time all is said and done. While Republicans did hold on to Louisiana with Julia Letlow’s win over Jamie Davis, her margin of victory was much smaller than expected at only two points.
House Speaker Mike Johnson is not planning on remaining House Republican leader as the Democrats take firm control of the House. LSU-Shreveport Political Science Professor Jeff Sadow says most speakers do not try to take the step down to minority leader, but the decider for Johnson was just how big of a swing the House took toward the Democrats.
The races in districts five and six will be decided in runoffs, with both featuring a Republican and a Democrat. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says yesterday’s elections taught us that anything is possible on December 12th.
