The Shreveport Police Department arrests a teacher accused of making false claims regarding a person she suspected was coming to the school to harm her. They say Tamekia Anderson said a man she knew texted her that he was coming to her place of work to shoot her. The school was placed on lock down as a precaution. Investigators say they later learned Anderson fabricated the story and she was charged on a count of Criminal Mischief.

The FBI has issued a release announcing the arrest of 28-year-old Joel Michael Guy Jr. of Baton Rouge who allegedly murdered and cut up his parents at the victims’ home in Tennessee. They say when the suspect visited his parents over Thanksgiving, an altercation allegedly ensued over finances. Police say Guy Jr. allegedly killed and dismembered his parents. He is awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

The topic of raising the state’s gas tax is expected to come up today during a meeting of the Transportation Task Force — charged with coming up with ways to improve Louisiana’s roads and bridges. The announcement led to an eight-percent increase in oil prices as they were trading at around 50-dollars a barrel. Executive Director for LSU’s Center for Energy Studies, David Dismukes, says it’s a nice sign for Louisiana’s oil industry, which has been lagging because of low oil prices.

This is OPEC’s first cut in 8 years, and it will reduce production by over 32 million barrels a day globally. The state’s budget also counts on high oil prices to help boost state revenues. He says the rise in oil prices as a result of OPEC’s decision will only help a little.

Based on latest numbers from the Louisiana Workforce Commission, seven thousand jobs have been lost in the Lafayette area over the last year and much of that is the result of the downturn in the oil industry. Dismukes says this announcement from OPEC is not enough to jump start drilling in this state.

A Bossier parish foster parent has been arrested on charges of rape. Lt. Bill Davis with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office says 51-year-old Terral Parfait lives alone and has been a foster parent for quite some time. He says so far, Parfait has been charged with three counts of 1^st degree rape.

A Baton Rouge college student has been arrested for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents at their home in Tennessee over the Thanksgiving weekend. Knox County Sheriff Maj. Michael Maclean says 29-year-old Joel Michael Guy Jr. viciously stabbed his parents several times before putting their body parts in acid in an attempt to cover up the crime. Guy was arrested at his apartment in Baton Rouge, but it’s unclear which school he was attending.

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case of a 51-year-old Air force Veteran who is accused of raping several foster children in his care. Michelle Southern reports..:

Dr. Jim LaCour with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the current control methods aren’t working, and the taskforce is discussing better ways to reduce the hog population.
