A Baton Rouge judge has sentenced two former LSU students to 30 days in the parish jail for their roles in the 2017 death of Phi Delta Theta pledge Max Gruver. Sean Gott and Ryan Isto pleaded no contest last year to misdemeanor hazing in the alcohol-related death. Matthew Naquin, who was just convicted of negligent homicide, will be sentenced in October.

Math professor Dr. James Oxley was swimming laps on campus July 5^th when he slipped under the water and eight students jumped into action to save his life. Oxley says his cardiologist told him it was the students’ training that made the difference.

The town of Church Point has a unique designation as being the home to Louisiana’s first cloned cow. The cow lives at Circle T Cattle Company. Owner Bob Thibodeaux says the original cow that was duplicated has since been sold and lives in Florida. Thibodeaux says the clone, named Eight Over Nine, has the exact look and personality of the original.

Louisiana Tech officials announce that J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park will remain at its current location as they rebuild following the tornado that destroyed a number of athletic facilities in April. The school decided the baseball field will remain at the historical location due to its unique setting.  A timetable has not been set on construction.

Isabella Alvarez, a senior from New Orleans was a lifeguard on duty that day, says she will never forget that fateful day.

After several delays Southern University’s medical marijuana program planted its first crop seeds this week after winning regulatory approval from the state. The university says they remain on schedule to meet timelines to have product available for patients this fall. Southern is the only historically black university in the country to be involved in growing medical marijuana.

The town of Church Point has a unique designation as being home to the state’s first cloned cow. The cow lives at Circle T Cattle Company. Several years ago Bob Thibodeaux purchased a cow that won awards all over the world.

The cloning of the animal took place in the state of Iowa, then was transported back to Louisiana. The Cow named “Eight Over Nine” is now just over a year old. Thibodeaux says they can clone the cow again if they need to.

State Police is investigating two separate officer-involved shootings that occurred yesterday. The first one happened in Vidalia at an apartment complex. The suspect 21-year-old Kaleb Melton died at the scene, while a Concordia Parish Sheriff’s deputy suffered moderate to severe injuries. The second shooting involved a West Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputy, who fatally shot a suspect at a Port Allen motel.
