A West Monroe man is in jail after pretending to be a woman online and convincing another man to drive from California to Ouachita Parish.  Kevin Barnhart has the story.

A 62-year old Coushatte (Coo-shot-ah) man is facing several molestation charges of a juvenile. The Red River Parish Sheriff’s office received a complaint earlier this month from a victim and obtained forensic evidence to support the claim. Steven Pierce Weir (Ware) was a basketball coach and teacher at Riverdale Academy. The victim told police them the abuse began when he was a student in 2006 and continue after his graduation in 2012. Weir is in jail awaiting bond.

Three people are dead including a toddler, all from Olla, after an 18-wheeler rear-ended the Ford Fiesta they were traveling in, causing the vehicle to overturn. State Trooper Scott Moreau says no one was properly restrained in the Ford being driven by a 17-year-old girl, the only survivor in the vehicle.

The St. John Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double homicide. Sheriff Mike Tregre says the victims are cousins, 18 and 20-years old and they were found in a vehicle on West Airline Highway and East 22nd Street in Reserve. Sheriff Mike Tregre says they are looking for the suspects

GOP governor’s race candidate Eddie Rispone is set to start spending big with a substantial ad blast coming to TV screens across the state set to reinforcement the candidate’s message that he’s the only pro-Trump, conservative, outsider in the race.

48-year-old James William Eaton of West Monroe is in jail after posing online as a woman and luring another man to drive from California to Ouachita Parish thinking he was marrying that woman.  Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Glen Springfield says investigators found a box that had been mailed to Eaton’s alter ego “Rose Williams” from the victim.

Springfield believes Eaton thought he’d never end up actually meeting the victim.

48-year-old James William Eaton of West Monroe is in jail after posing online as a woman and luring another man to drive from California to Ouachita Parish thinking he was marrying that woman. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Glen Springfield says the victim claims to have sent Eaton a total of $1000.

When questioned, Eaton allegedly told deputies he did not know the victim and never received anything from him.

A woman accused of murdering her five-year-old daughter is on life support. That’s according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office, who says 24-year-old Jasmine Anderson attempted to hang herself. Anderson’s attorney, Chad Guillot says considering Anderson was in a mental facility when she was arrested, the jail should have taken more precautions.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says an Alexandria woman accused of murdering her five-year-old child is on life support after a suicide attempt. 24-year-old Jasmine Anderson was arrested on July 23rd for the death of her daughter, Audrey Lynn Chelette. Anderson’s attorney Chad Guillot says his client is on life support because she’s a registered organ donor…

There’s been public speculation Anderson may have something to do with her husband’s death in 2016, and the bottle cap choking death of her four-year-old son earlier this year. But police have said as of now, Anderson is not responsible for those deaths.

Riverdale Academy basketball coach and teacher Steven Weir has been charged with 25 counts of molestation of a juvenile. The Red River Parish Sheriff’s office says the victim was a student and the alleged sex acts occurred over a six-year period.

Byron Badeaux says he forgot the dog was inside the vehicle. The deceased dog’s remains were turned over to an Opelousas Animal Control officer.

LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center says there’s a new study that shows fat in unhealthy locations doubles colorectal cancer patients’ risk of death within seven years of diagnosis…

Two adults and a toddler have died from their injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in the LaSalle Parish town of Olla. The wreck involving an 18-wheeler and a Ford Fiesta occurred around 11:30 AM on Highway 127. The three passengers in the Ford Fiesta were pronounced dead at the scene. State Police say none of them, including the toddler, were restrained.

A West Monroe man has been arrested after he allegedly tricked a man from California to come to Ouachita Parish and marry him. The victim traveled to Louisiana thinking he would marry a woman by the name of Rose, instead, he found out it was 48-year-old James William Eaton, who also received a thousand-dollars and care packages during the course of the online relationship.

A new study from LSU Pennington Biomedical researchers finds that fat stored in unhealthy locations in the stomach doubles a colorectal cancer patient’s risk of death within seven years. Dr. Justin Brown says there are two places fat gets stored in the belly, under the skin and deep in the abdomen.

Brown says female colorectal cancer patients are more at risk for death if they have a high amount of fat stored deep inside the abdomen near vital organs.

State representative and breast cancer survivor Julie Stokes has decided not to seek re-election for her seat in Kenner. Stokes was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. In her next two years in the legislature, she worked to pass legislation to help those afflicted with cancer…
