A new poll shows 68 percent of Louisianans believe using or possessing marijuana should not be illegal. Matt Doyle has the story.

Baton Rouge activist Gary Chambers who came close to being in the run-off for the second congressional district has endorsed fellow democrat and New Orleans lawmaker Karen Carter Peterson. Carter Peterson is in the April 24^th run-off will fellow democrat and New Orleans lawmaker Troy Carter.

As of now all Louisianans 16 and older regardless of occupation or health status are eligible to receive the COVID 19 vaccine and 5^th District Congresswoman-Elect Julia Letlow made a personal appeal to those hesitant about getting vaccinated. Her husband Luke died of COVID just days before he was set to be sworn in congress. Congresswoman Letlow says getting vaccinated can prevent more tragedies like that…

If you’re in southeast Louisiana and haven’t been vaccinated yet drop by the Shrine on Airline, Ochsner Health’s vaccine fest.  Ochsner Health Medical Director of Infection Prevention Dr. Katherine Baumgarten says they’ll be vaccinating thousands until 10 am Tuesday.

Police are searching for the driver of a Ram pickup truck who struck a bicyclist in St. Landry Parish Sunday morning and fled the scene. State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen says 24-year old Ryan Fontenot was struck initially by the truck and run off the road, then a second vehicle struck and killed Fontenot. Gossen says Fontenot likely would still be alive today had the driver of the first vehicle not left the scene.

Congresswoman-elect Julia Letlow is imploring every adult in Louisiana to get a vaccine now that everyone 16 and older is eligible. Letlow lost her 41-year-old husband Luke Letlow to COVID in December, just days before he was to be sworn-in to congress.

Luke Letlow was diagnosed with COVID in December shortly after he was elected to the 5^th Congressional District.

Ochsner Health’s 24-hour vaccine fest is underway in Jefferson Parish at the Shrine on Airline. The event is for residents 18 and older and ends Tuesday at 10 a.m. Ochsner Health Medical Director of Infection Prevention Dr. Katherine Baumgarten says from 7 pm until 7 am you don’t need an appointment.

Police are on the lookout for a damaged Ram truck that is believed to have been involved with a fatal hit and run with a bicyclist just outside Acadian Medical Center in St. Landry Parish. State Police Trooper Thomas Gossen urges anyone with information about this crash to contact their local authorities.

Nearly 1.2 million Louisianans have now received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine as of the Monday update with 720,000 Louisianans being fully vaccinated.

New polling suggests the already widespread support for marijuana legalization in Louisiana has grown significantly over the last 12 months. It’s now up to 68 percent from the public as of the most recent JMC poll and JMC pollster John Couvillon says the policy has support from every demographic and geographic category in the state, except those over 65. There’s been a nine percent increase over the 2020 edition of the poll, and Couvillon says that likely has to do with the state’s legalization of medicinal marijuana.

The poll features responses from 1,160 individuals.

The LSU baseball team got swept by Tennessee in Knoxville this in a three-game weekend series.  The Tigers lost game one 3-1 before dropping game 2 9-8 in 11 innings and fell to the Vols in game three 3-2 in eight innings.  Even though LSU was winless this weekend, coach Paul Mainieri says his team fought hard.

After going 0 for 3 this weekend, LSU has now dropped out of every top 25 college baseball poll.

The Louisiana Tech baseball team took three out of four games this weekend against Southern Miss on the road in Hattiesburg.  Tech has now won seven of the last eight games and after a good performance in the weekend series, the Bulldogs are now ranked 17^th in the latest D1 Baseball poll.

ULM lost two of three to Texas State. Southeastern Louisiana swept Lamar in a four-game series to move into first place in the Southland, while McNeese was swept by Stephen F Austin.

Several female lawmakers remain upset with LSU over its handling of previous sexual misconduct cases at LSU. During another marathon hearing on Friday, Monroe Senator Katrina Jackson ripped into school officials for not informing the public and students that former football coach Les Miles was told he can not be alone with female students…

Jackson also noted that Miles was issued a state-purchased cell phone so that his communications could be monitored in case he attempted to contact more students.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball ended its season with a 76-74 win over Colorado State in the consolation game of the NIT. Freshman Kenneth Lofton had a career-high 27 points and scored the winning basket with point-three seconds left.

The New Orleans Pelicans are on the road tonight as they take on the Boston Celtics at 6:30. The Pels are coming off a win against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday and are looking for a second straight victory.

Last month’s winter storms have had a positive effect on nuisance aquatic vegetation in Louisiana. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Inland Fisheries Operations Manager Alex Perrett says there are certain areas where they have chronic problems with those plants, and this storm helped them get a head start clearing them out.

Starting today everyone 16 and older is eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association President Randall Johnson says for 16 and 17-year-olds, they will have to take the Pfizer vaccine as that’s the only one that’s been approved for that age group…

LSU athletics director Scott Woodward is expected to testify the next time the Senate Select Committee on Women and Children meet to discuss the school’s mishandling of previous sexual misconduct cases. There was another long hearing on the scandal again on Friday and LSU general counsel Winston DeCuir says the school is putting into place policies that would make sure sexual misconduct claims are fully investigated…

The NFL is expected to make an announcement that they are expanding the regular season from sixteen to seventeen games, sometime this week according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The League has played a 16-game regular season since 1978. Several NFL players have voiced displeasure on the expansion including New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
