Once Callahan was apprehended, Wade says he led them to the surviving six-year-old child Jalie and the body of three-year-old Erin.

After months of legal disputes, preparatory work on the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion is set to start again. Houma Representative Jerome Zerengue (rhymes with merengue) says the diversion, which would redirect some of the Mississippi’s sediment-heavy water into a new channel and guide it into the Barataria Basin, has years of research behind it.

If successful, the sediment from the nearly $3 billion diversion will settle and gradually restore land in the basin that’s been disappearing for decades. Zerengue says this isn’t an invasive procedure since the diversion is just continuing the work of Mother Nature.

Opponents of the diversion say any benefits the diversion would bring are outweighed by the introduction of non-salty water into brackish and saltwater areas. Zerengue says even if that’s the case, something has to be done to save our coasts.

The project’s stop-work order was partially lifted on Thursday after officials agreed to stay opposing litigation.

Multiple agencies are working on the case, including the FBI and the National Bureau of Investigation.  (Jackson Police Chief Joseph) Wade says while they can’t confirm the crime scene is possibly linked to human trafficking, they do want to know why Callahan brought the young girls to Jackson.

An alleged accomplice has been arrested in connection to the murder of Callie Brunett of Loranger and the kidnapping of her two daughters and the subsequent murder of the three-year-old daughter. Jackson police report, 32-year-old Victoria Cox been arrested. The children were found along with suspect Daniel Callahan in Jackson, Mississippi Thursday afternoon. Jackson PD has also arrested a second person allegedly involved, 32-year-old Victoria Cox. Police believe she has a romantic relationship with Callahan. Cox is in custody and being questioned by Jackson PD.

The Amber Alert for two girls from Loranger who ended up in Mississippi is being questioned. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards says the alert was issued by Louisiana State Police three hours after it was requested Thursday morning. Edwards told New Orleans Fox8 news he’s frustrated and that he’s reached out to the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association about the delay.  State Police have yet to comment. The FBI is now the lead agency in this investigation.

Louisiana has the second biggest debt delinquency problem in the nation, with personal finance website WalletHub finding 12% of state debt tradelines were paid late in the first quarter of 2024. Analyst Cassandra Happe (Happy) says it’s likely not as easy as just paying back the loan for most delinquent Louisianians.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement is the lead agency investigating a fatal boating incident involving a Texas man in Sabine Parish. Agents recovered the body of 64-year-old John Martin Jr Monday evening from the Toledo Bend Reservoir. Martin was last seen launching his boat near Huxley, Texas on June 8^th. What caused the boat to capsize remains unknown and when Martin was found he was not wearing a lift jacket.

The New Orleans Saints concluded their three day mandatory veteran minicamp yesterday and will be on break until July 24th, when their training camp begins. First year offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak says that the offense is making a lot of progress in his new scheme, but Kubiak also noted that the Saints defense is looking as tough as ever.

Saints veteran running back Alvin Kamara missed the final day of the three day mandatory veteran minicamp yesterday. Kamara’s agent says that the move was contract-related and that Kamara made the move due to slow contract extension talks. The Men’s College World Series is finally here and the second game will feature Florida State taking on Tennessee in an ACC versus SEC matchup at 6:00 pm. The Seminoles reached the College World Series after defeating UCF in their regional and sweeping UConn in the Tallahassee Super Regional. Tennessee reached the College World Series after defeating Southern Miss in their regional and then winning a tough series against Evansville in the Knoxville super regional.

The New Orleans Pelicans released their preseason schedule yesterday. The Pels will take on the Magic at home on October the 7th to start things off.

And what could be the final game of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks tips off tonight at 7:30 in Dallas. The Boston Celtics took a three game lead against the Dallas Mavericks after winning the last matchup in Dallas 106 to 99.
