One of the big storylines in U.S. House qualifying so far is a certain someone who HASN’T put his hat in the ring yet. Andrew Greenstein reports.

Perhaps one of the biggest storylines in the first day of qualifying in the U.S. House races is who DIDN’T show up to qualify on day one. As we enter day two of the three-day qualifying period, we still don’t know whether Blake Miguez will run in district five or district six. Rick Edmonds, who qualified in district six yesterday, said what speaks volumes is that while President Trump endorsed Miguez in the fifth district in the closed primary that was cancelled at the last minute, there was no such nod in the sixth district.
Edmonds hammered Miguez on the fact that, while it’s perfectly legal under Louisiana law, he still doesn’t live within the boundaries of the sixth district, even after they were redrawn.
Cut 5 (12) “…disaster relief, infrastructure.”
Edmonds says in order to be an effective member of Congress, you have to live in the district you serve in.

Rick Edmonds wasn’t the only one to throw his hat into the district six race. Larry Davis qualified yesterday. He said his campaign is a grassroots campaign.
Another candidate who qualified is Michael Mebruer (MEE-brewer), who like Edmonds originally qualified in the fifth district in February but has since shifted his campaign to the sixth. Mebruer says his campaign is entirely self-funded, and he wants to keep the focus on ideas.
Cut 8 (10) “…most importantly, donations.”
Mebruer says there’s one issue that stands out above the rest that he would tackle first should he be elected.
Cut 9 (09) “…reforms take place.”
They, along with Monique Appeaning, are all Republicans running in the district which was redrawn specifically to elect someone from that party. That redrawing led to incumbent Cleo Fields’ decision not to seek re-election.

Louisiana Tech and LSU Health Shreveport signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a partnership for research and student training. Dr. Oren Rom, the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research at LSU Health Shreveport, says the agreement allows students, faculty and researchers to collaborate on research projects and share access to specialized facilities.
Cut 10 (08) “…in North Louisiana.”
Rom says the agreement is a big win for both institutions and a perfect marriage of biomedical and clinical research and engineering and advanced manufacturing expertise. He says graduate students and faculty from both universities will be able to share resources and mentorship with the other.
Cut 11 (09) “…in North Louisiana.”
The partnership will help the institutions advance discovery, innovation and economic growth in North Louisiana. Louisiana Tech Interim Vice President for Research Dr. Bala Ramu Ramachandran says it will help them compete for federal and private funding.
Cut 12 (06) “…for external funding.”

Louisiana hunters who want a chance to participate in the state’s third black bear hunting season since 1987 can apply to the LDWF lottery now. LDWF Large Carnivore Program Manager John Hanks says 42 tags will be issued through the lottery.
Black bear hunting season is scheduled for December 5th through the 20th. Hanks says if you win a tag, your preparation doesn’t stop there.
Cut 14 (10) “…to complete that.”
Training courses are scheduled for October 16th, 17th, 22nd and 23rd.
To apply for the lottery, you will need a black bear hunting license and a 50-dollar application fee. Hanks says there’s a set of designated black bear hunting areas across the state.
Cut 15 (10) “…more than that.”

Top 2026 freshman Lamar Brown made his first appearance at LSU practice yesterday. The defensive end did not enroll at LSU until the summer, so he was not available in spring practice. Head coach Lane Kiffin says Brown became one of the first people he met when he got to Baton Rouge when he found him sitting on the couch in his office.
Kiffin says the team was able to gel and learn the system over the summer during OTAs. He says this group has had little to no discipline issues this offseason, and that reflects the state of modern college athletics.
Cut 17 (15) “…make these mistakes.”

ULM kicked off camp in year three under head coach Bryant Vincent. The Warhawks have just eight wins in the Vincent era due to six- and eight-game losing streaks to close out each of his first two seasons. Vincent says this team is learning from those mistakes and is ready to get better.
Warhawks starting quarterback Aidan Armenta returns after throwing for over 16-hundred yards and 12 touchdowns last year. The senior completed just 59-percent of his passes and threw eight interceptions last year, but Vincent says he progressed in the spring.

Louisiana Tech head coach Sonny Cumbie expects the Bulldogs to compete in the Sun Belt right away, largely because of how much production is back from last year. He says that is most apparent in the linebacker room that features returners Kolbe Fields, Jadon Mayfield and Alonzo Jackson.
