Nussmeier could have one of his key receivers back. Chris Hilton was a full go at practice yesterday and is listed as questionable for tomorrow night’s game, but Coach Kelly says it’s more about the conditioning than the injury.

Wide receiver Chris Olave was a full participant at practice yesterday, a good sign Olave is over his concussion and can play against the Chargers this Sunday.

Southeastern Louisiana and 10th ranked U-I-W will battle for first place in the Southland when the two teams meet in Hammond. The Lions are allowing 13 points a game in Southland play. McNeese is at Nicholls and Northwestern State hosts Lamar.

The Pelicans won their season opener over the Chicago Bulls 123 to 111 last night, but they’ve lost starting point guard Dejounte Murray as he fractured his left hand in the fourth quarter and he’s out indefinitely. Zion Williamson, who missed last night with an illness, is expected to play tomorrow night in Portland.

The LSU women’s basketball team is ranked seventh in the coaches poll and they have an exhibition game tonight against Xavier of New Orleans.

Huge upset in Conference USA Action last night as Kennesaw State took down Liberty 27 to 24. It’s the first win for Kennesaw as an FBS School. Jacksonville State was a winner over Middle Tennessee. Tonight…Georgia Southern is at Old Dominion. The Eagles lead the Sun Belt East Division with a 3-and-0 record, while the Monarchs are 2-and-1.

Tonight in the NFL, Justin Jefferson and the Vikings visit the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Saints will now try to end their five-game losing streak as they face the Chargers in L-A. Spencer Rattler is expected to make another start at quarterback.

The Pelicans started a new season last night with a 123 to 11 win over the Chicago Bulls in the Smoothie King Center. Zion Williamson missed the game with an illness, but Brandon Ingram stepped up and scored 33 points. But point guard Dejounte Murray suffered a fractured hand and will likely miss some time. The Pels are at Portland tomorrow night.

Eighth ranked LSU will take a six-game winning streak into College Station on Saturday night when they battle 14th ranked Texas A&M. The Tigers defense is getting better and safety Sage Ryan says they want to build on last week’s performance against Arkansas…

Saints running back Alvin Kamara is glad he has a new contract that keeps him in New Orleans through 2026 as he’s signed a two-year contract extension worth 24-million dollars. There was speculation the Saints may trade Kamara or there was a chance he could be released after this season. A-K says it his desire is to remain a Saint and retire with the franchise that drafted him in 2017….

Quarterback Derek Carr was not at practice today, so it’s likely Spencer Rattler will start against the Chargers on Sunday. But Chris Olave, Taysom Hill, Cesar Ruiz, Lucas Patrick, Marshon Lattimore all participated.

Louisiana Tech’s defense continues to play well and it led to a victory last night as the Bulldogs defeated UTEP 14 to 10 in what Coach Sonny Cumbie called an ugly win. Tech is now 2-and-2 in Conference USA and they’ll visit Sam Houston next Tuesday.

The Pelicans tip off a new season tonight as they host the Chicago Bulls. New Orleans was just a 21-19 at the Smoothie King Center last season. Coach Willie Green says they want to play better on their home floor this year…

The biggest offseason addition for the Pelicans was Dejounte Murray, who was an off ball guard in Atlanta, but he’ll play point guard in New Orleans. New Orleans does not have a true center after losing Jonas Valanciunas in free agency.

Rumors about Alvin Kamara possibly getting traded have been put to rest as New Orleans and Kamara have agreed to a two-year contract extension that’s worth a reported 24.5 million dollars. Kamara’s contract keeps him in New Orleans through 2026. The Saints will be in Los Angeles this Sunday to take on the Chargers.

LSU was ranked 86th in points allowed last season, giving up 30 points a game. This year LSU is allowing 21 points a game and ranked 35th in the country. First-year defensive coordinator Blake Baker is getting a lot of credit and Coach Brian Kelly says Baker has taken the time to develop personal relationships with the players…

The Bulldogs allowed the Miners to convert only once on third-down and the offense didn’t do much until the fourth quarter when they put together an 11 play drive capped off by a one-yard touchdown from Amani Givens. Saints running back Alvin Kamara has received a two-year contract extension through the 2026 season. The new deal includes 22-million dollars in guaranteed money and it reportedly saves New Orleans 18-million dollars in salary cap space next year. Kamara wants to retire as a Saint and he’s less than 250 yards away from becoming the team’s all-time leading rusher.

An Amani Givens one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter put Louisiana Tech on top and the Bulldogs held on to beat Texas  El Paso 14 to 10. Tech’s defense held the Miners to 85 yards passing as Jakari Foster and Koble Fields each had 11 tackles.  The Bulldogs only rushed for seven yards, but they are now 2-and-2 in Conference USA action.

A new season kicks off tonight for the Pelicans as New Orleans hosts the Chicago Bulls. Zion Williamson is questionable with an illness, Dejounte Murray is also questionable for personal reasons and Jose Alvarado is also questionable with a right knee.

The Bulls are a mediocre team in the Eastern Conference and Pels Coach Willie Green gives us a scouting report…

The Saints have lost five in a row and they are preparing to start rookie Spencer Rattler for a third consecutive game if Derek Carr is not healthy. Coach Dennis Allen Allen is hopeful Taysom Hill can return from fractured ribs and there’s a chance interior offensive linemen Lucas Patrick and Cesar Ruiz will return this weekend. The Chargers lost last night to the Cardinals 17 to 15.

Louisiana Tech takes on UTEP tonight in Conference USA action. The Miners lead the league in tackles for loss so Bulldogs Coach Sonny Cumbie says it will be important for quarterback Evan Bullock to get rid of the ball quickly…

Edna Karr is the newly ranked number one team in Class 5A. Neville, who defeated Ruston last Friday and ended the Bearkats 20-game winning streak is ranked second. Ruston is ranked third.
