The Tigers fell seven spots in the AP poll to number 21. Tulane is now in the Top 25 as the Green Wave are ranked 25th and the eight and two Greenies have a big game this Saturday at Navy.

The eight and one Ragin Cajuns are getting votes in the AP poll. U-L Lafayette put together a complete performance in a 55 to 19 win over Arkansas State on Homecoming night. Coach Michael Desormeaux credits his team’s mindset…

There’s a lot on the line when 15th ranked LSU hosts 11th ranked Alabama on Saturday night. The loser of this game will be eliminated from college football playoff contention. The Tigers defense is looking to bounce back after giving up 31 points against Texas A-and-M in the second half. Linebacker Greg Penn says all you can do is learn from the experience and make sure it doesn’t happen again…

LSU’s defense will be focused on keeping Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe from making plays with legs. Kick-off on Saturday night is at 6:30.

Huge high school football game tonight in Alexandria as ASH hosts Neville. Both teams are 9-and-0. The playoff brackets were set to be released on Sunday, but the LHSAA said today it’s postponing the release because of ongoing litigation with a high school. The Advocate reports University High filed a lawsuit after they had to forfeit seven victories for using two ineligible players who transferred from Liberty High School.

The Ragin Cajuns can take command of the Sun Belt West if they are able to defeat Arkansas State for homecoming on Saturday. U-L Lafayette is 4-and-0 in the Sun Belt, while the Red Wolves are 3-and-1 and in second place in the Western Division. Kick off is at 4 PM.

ULM will try to snap a two-game losing streak tomorrow when they host Texas State. Warhawks Coach Bryant Vincent has this message for his team this week…

Last night was a big night in high school football as Oak Grove defeated Ouachitan Christian 44 to 14. Karr wins the Catholic League with a 69 to 28 win over Rummel. Union Parish outlasted Sterlington 31 to 23. Evangel defeated Parkway 45 to 43. Airline knocked Huntington 59 to 54 and Catholic High outscored Zachary 73 to 55.

The Saints continue preparations today for Sunday’s home game against Atlanta. Running back Alvin Kamara on what the week’s been like with Darren Rizzi as the interim head coach…

Kamara needs 12 more rushing yards to become the team’s all-time leading rusher. Center Erick McCoy has returned to practice. He’s been out since suffering a groin injury in the Week 3 loss to Philadelphia.

Joe Burrow threw for 428 yards and four touchdowns but the Bengals still lost to the Ravens 35 to 34. JaMarr Chase had 11 catches for 264 yards and three touchdowns.

Last night in college hoops…the Ragin Cajuns beat UT Dallas 82 to 65, McNeese over College Biblical Studies 111 to 57 and in women’s hoops…Lady Techsters 78 to 70, Nicholls defeated Tulane 65 to 63.

The Louisiana Illuminator is reporting there will be a Live Tiger inside Tiger Stadium when LSU plays Alabama on Saturday night. It will reportedly not be Mike Seven who lives in an enclosure across the street from Tiger Stadium. Ponchatoula Senator Bill Wheat says the Tiger will come from somewhere else. Governor Landry has expressed his desire to have a live Tiger at LSU. No comment yet from his office or the university.

We know Nick Saban will not be on the Alabama sideline for Saturday night’s game. Coach Brian Kelly was asked how the Crimson Tide are different with Saban no longer roaming the sidelines and Kalen DeBoer at the helm…

LSU’s power couple, Livvy Dunne and Paul Skenes, announced as the guest pickers on ESPN’s College Gameday on Saturday morning.

The players seem to have great respect for Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi. Quarterback Derek Carr has a great relationship with him…

Rizzi, Carr and the rest of the Saints will try to snap a seven-game losing streak Sunday against the Falcons. Kickoff at the Superdome is at noon.

Big night of high school football…Oak Grove battles Ouachita Chrisian. This is one of the best rivalries in high school football. Oak Grove leads the overall series 21 to 13. O-C-S seniors have not lost to the Tigers.

Also tonight…Catholic battles Zachary. A win for the Bears and they win an outright district title. Rummel takes on Edna Karr.  If the Raiders win, they’ll share a district title with the Cougars.

A big key for LSU this Saturday when they face Alabama is to keep Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe from beating the Tigers with his legs. In last year’s game against LSU, he rushed for 155 yards and four touchdowns. And  two weeks ago in a loss to Texas A&M, LSU couldn’t stop a running quarterback. LSU men’s basketball won its first game of the season last night, beating ULM 96 to 60 as Jalen Reed had 24 points and eight rebounds.

The Pelicans dropped to 3-and-6 on the season with a 131 to 122 loss to the undefeated Cavaliers.

LSU’s women’s basketball has received a commitment six-foot-two Grace Knox from California. She’s ranked as the 11th best player in the country.

Darren Rizzi was named as the Saints interim head coach on Monday and he’s getting used to his new role…

The Pelicans conclude a four-game homestand tonight by hosting the undefeated Cleveland Cavaliers. Zion Williamson is questionable with right thigh soreness.

In the latest high school football polls….Lutcher is now ranked number one in Class 4A. Teurlings Catholic fell from the top spot to number four after losing to St. Thomas More. Bunkie is the new number ranked Team in Class 3A. The Panthers are 9-and-0 and will face Marksville in the annual Catskin Game.

Southeastern Louisiana hosts Northwestern State on Saturday and kick-off has been moved up six hours to noon because potential impacts from Hurricane Rafael. But Rafael no longer looks like a threat to Louisiana.

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame says induction ceremonies for the Class of 2025 will take place between June 26 to the 28th in Natchitoches. Former West Monroe, LSU and NFL star Andrew Whitworth is the headliner.

In basketball…LSU opens its season tonight by hosting ULM. The Tigers are picked to finish 14th in the  SEC.

The Pelicans host the Cavaliers. Cleveland is undefeated on the season and Pels star Zion Williamson is questionable with thigh soreness.

Today was the NFL trade deadline and the Saints made a move, trading pro bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore and a 2025 sixth round pick to Washington for two draft picks, third and fourth round selections in next year’s NFL draft. The 28-year-old has 68 pass breakups since he was drafted in 2017. That’s the third most in the NFL during that time. Lattimore goes down as the best cornerback to ever play for the Saints and now he’s with Jadyn Daniels and the Commanders.

LSU is continuing to prepare for its big matchup against Alabama on Saturday night. The Tigers enter the game ranked 111th in the country in rush offense, averaging 115 yards a game. Coach Brian Kelly says it will take a team effort to get the ground game going…

A legendary figure in Louisiana sports history has passed away. William “Dub” Jones of Ruston died at the age of 99…one month shy of his 100th birthday. Jones played eight seasons of professional football and in 1951, he scored six touchdowns in a game against Chicago Bears. Only three other players, including Alvin Kamara, have scored that many TDs in a game. One of his sons, Ben Jones, says his father was an old-school player all the way.

Another of Dub Jones’ sons was Bert Jones, who was an NFL quarterback for ten seasons and was the NFL MVP in 1976.

Saints Coach Dennis Allen was fired Monday after leading New Orleans to an 18-25 record over two plus seasons. New Orleans failed to make the playoffs in 2022 and 2023 and they are on a seven-game losing streak this year. Most Saints fans are pleased with the decision to let Allen go. Saints tight end Foster Moreau says it’s a shame they couldn’t win more…

Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi takes over as the interim head coach. New Orleans hosts the Atlanta Falcons Sunday.

The college basketball season tipped off yesterday with the seventh ranked LSU Lady Tigers easily beating Eastern Kentucky 95 to 44. Junior guard Flau’jae Johnson had 25 points.

The Ragin Cajuns and McNeese suffered opening night losses, while La Tech and ULM both won. The Warhawks are at LSU tomorrow night.

The 14th-ranked LSU Tigers are gearing up to host 11th-ranked Alabama in what has been dubbed a playoff elimination game. Both teams have lost two games this season, and it’s expected that a three-loss team will not make the 12-team College Football Playoff. Coach Brian Kelly does not want his team to focus on the playoff implications of this game…

The Pelicans do not look like a playoff team with all of their injuries. They were outscored by 21 in the fourth quarter and lost to Portland 118 to 100. New Orleans is now 3-and-5 and will conclude its four-game homestand tomorrow by hosting the Cavaliers.
