The fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team improved to 20-0 with an 80-63 victory over Florida. It’s the second time in program history the Lady Tigers won their first 20 games. Mikayla Williams had 22 points and Aneesah Morrow added 20 points and 10 boards. After allowing Florida to score 21 points in the first quarter, Coach Kim Mulkey’s team played much better defense…

The win sets up a huge matchup on Thursday against the 2nd ranked Gamecocks in South Carolina.

Quick look at men’s college basketball…LSU lost again. Louisiana Tech lost another close game on the road, the Ragin Cajuns sent ULM to its ninth straight defeat. Southern is 5-and-0 in the SWAC and McNeese is 7-and-0. The Cowboys host Stephen F Austin at 3 PM today.

According to 24-7 sports, LSU has the best transfer portal class in the country, ahead of Ole Miss, Texas A-and-M, Auburn  and Florida State.

Saturday night, the LSU men’s basketball team will seek its second win in a row as the Tigers visit 11th ranked Texas A-and-M. The Tigers are coming off a four-point win over Arkansas, while the Aggies have dropped two in a row, losing to a pair of top ten ranked teams in Alabama and Kentucky.

Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders will try to upset the top seed in the NFC playoffs when they visit the Detroit Lions on Saturday night. Daniels has resurrected a floundering Commanders franchise and the excitement around this team in the nation’s capital is insane. But the former LSU star has tuned out all the hype…

The divisional playoffs get underway Saturday afternoon as the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Houston Texans. Houston needs another strong performance from former LSU star Derek Stingley. The cornerback from Baton Rouge had two interceptions, a forced fumble and five passes defended in last week’s wild card win over the Chargers.

The family of Collin Hurley says the LSU quarterback is in stable condition at a Baton Rouge hospital but is expected to recover from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash on LSU’s campus early Thursday morning. Hurley slammed his Dodge Charger into a tree and was found unresponsive, but breathing by first responders. The cause of the crash is unknown, but officials say impairment is not suspected.

Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders will try to keep their magical season going on Saturday night when they take on the Detroit Lions. The Commanders have won several close games this year in the final seconds. Daniels says that resiliency is what makes this Commanders team so special…

High School football coaching news….Newman coach Nelson Stewart is leaving for a head coaching job at a high school in Atlanta. Dane Charpentier is stepping down as head coach at Teurlings Catholic to be the offensive coordinator at East Ascension. Former Louisiana Tech star John Simon is the new head coach at Huntington.

LSU baseball ranked third in the Division One preseason Top 25 poll. D-1 baseball’s Kendall Rogers likes the depth the Tigers have in the outfield…

LSU quarterback Colin Hurley is hospitalized following a one-vehicle wreck on LSU’s campus early Thursday morning. Authorities say Hurley drove his Dodge Charger into a tree at around 2:45 and he was found unresponsive but breathing. Hurley’s family says Colin is in stable condition and they are confident he’ll make a full recovery. The cause of the crash is not known, but impairment is not suspected. Hurley is 17-years-old and did not play in 2024.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball lost a tough game to Jacksonville State last night 63 to 61. Bulldogs Coach Talvin Hester says the 18 second chance points they gave up was the difference.

The Ragin Cajuns trailed by 20 points at halftime and lost by 20 points to Arkansas State 83 to 63. U-L Lafayette is at ULM on Saturday.

Big high school football coaching news….Newman’s Nelson Stewart is leaving his alma mater for a high school coaching job in Georgia and Teurlings Catholic Coach Dane Charpentier is also leaving his alma mater to be the offensive coordinator at East Ascension.

The Sugar Bowl is donating 500-thousand dollars to the New Year’s Day tragedy fund in response to the terrorist attack on Bourbon Street that led to a one-day postponement of the Sugar Bowl. 250-thousand dollars will go to the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s New Year’s Day Tragedy Fund, the other 250-thousand dollars will fund public safety initiatives. Former LSU Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels will play in the biggest game of his life tomorrow night as the Washington Commanders take on the Lions in Detroit. Daniels says he and his offense have their work cut out for them against the top seeded Lions.

LSU backup quarterback Colin Hurley crashed his Dodge Charger into a tree on Highland Road near the South Gates of the LSU campus during the overnight hours. First responders found Hurley unresponsive at around 2:45 this morning,  but breathing and needed to be taken out of his smashed up vehicle. The cause of the crash has not been released. Hurley did not play this past season and a true freshman.

LSU baseball is ranked third in the D-1 baseball preseason’s poll. The Tigers will have one of the top home run hitters in baseball in Jared Jones, who hit 28 home runs as a draft eligible sophomore. D-1 baseball Kendall Rogers is interested to see what Jones can do this season…

WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge is reporting LSU backup quarterback Colin Hurley crashed into a tree during the overnight hours near the south gates of LSU’s campus on Highland Road. Officials say Hurley was breathing but was in and out of consciousness and had a large cut on his face. Authorities do not know the cause of the crash, but investigators do not believe Hurley was impaired. The accident happened around 2:45 AM. The 17-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, red shirted this past season.

Ohio State is an 8.5 point favorite in Monday night’s national championship game against Notre Dame. Tyler Horka from Blue and Gold Illustrated was a guest on Tiger Rag Radio this week and says even Golden Domers are not confident they can beat the Buckeyes…

The Pelicans won their second straight game last night as New Orleans defeated Dallas 119 to 116. Dejounte Murray led the way with 30 points. Trey Murphy had another strong game as he scored 24 points and grabbed ten rebounds. He also had a big blocked shot with four seconds left.

ULM is still winless in the Sun Belt after losing to troy 77 to 58, while Tulane topped Florida Atlantic 80 to 65 to improve to 4-and-1 in the American.

Louisiana Tech is in fourth place in Conference USA and the Bulldogs are at Jacksonville State tonight. Tech Coach Talvin Hester believes his team can be better on the defensive end of the floor…

ULM men’s basketball lost to Troy 77 to 58 as the Warhawks fell to 4-and-15 on the season. Tulane topped Florida Atlantic 80 to 65 to improve to 4-and-1 in the American Athletic Conference.

Louisiana Tech won two in a row at home last week and they are back on the road this week. Tonight, the Bulldogs visit Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks finished with a losing record last year, but Tech head coach Talvin Hester says Jax State is 9-and-7 overall this year…

The U-L Lafayette women’s basketball team lost in overtime to Arkansas State 67 to 65 last night and Tulane defeated Wichita State 66 to 62.

In high school football, Thibodaux has named Lowell Narcisse as its new football coach. Narcisse was a three-sport star at St. James High School and this past season, he led Ascension Catholic to an eleven win season and a semifinal appearance. Thibodaux was just 4-and-6 in 2024.

It’s the biggest question surrounding the Saints in the early off-season – who will be their next head coach? One name that recently surfaced is Mike McCarthy, who just parted ways with the Cowboys after his contract expired. McCarthy is no stranger to the Saints – he was their offensive coordinator from 2000 to 2004, during which time the team won its first ever playoff game. Jim Derry, the host of the Dattitude podcast for NOLA.com, says McCarthy has a lot in common with Sean Payton.

The Pelicans beat the Bulls in Chicago last night 119 to 113. Trey Murphy had 32 points as he made all 12 of his free throws. Zion Williamson nearly had a triple double, 21 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. New Orleans hosts Dallas tonight, who was blown out last night by the Denver Nuggets 118 to 99.

The NFL Network is reporting the Saints plan to speak with former Cowboys and Packers head coach Mike McCarthy early next week. Before winning a Super Bowl in Green Bay and winning a bunch of games in Dallas, McCarthy was an offensive coordinator in New Orleans for five seasons from 2000 to 2004. The 2000 team won the franchise’s first playoff game.

But before McCarthy meets with New Orleans, he’ll reportedly interview with the Bears today.
