Just a day after he announced he’d be leaving LSU, quarterback Lindsey Scott has already landed on another team. The Zachary High star signed with East Mississippi Community College today. EMCC has won three junior college national championships in coach Buddy Stephens’ 9 years there. In 2016, Scott was the top-ranked quarterback in Louisiana and the 26th-ranked dual-threat QB in the nation, according to 247Sports.

The New Orleans Pelicans schedule is out and they are slated to play the Warriors and Cavs in their first two home games of the season. The Pels start their season on October 18th on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies, then make their Smoothie King Center debut for 2017-2018 against the NBA Champ Golden State.

Saints coach Sean Payton said of the rumors that the team was planning to trade Delvin Breaux, that he would never comment on that kind business. But added it’s normal to discuss players or possible trades during training camp.

UL-Lafayette Head coach Mark Hudspeth says a could-be starting quarterback has not been able to practice due to a non-football related injury. He said Senior Darius Hoggins fell and broke his jaw while he was walking and looking at his cell phone. Hoggins hasn’t been practicing and he could miss the start of the season as he also dislodged some of his teeth.

LSU is moving its football fan day to the spring instead of holding the annual event this month. Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette says Coach O is really focused on making the spring game a bigger, day-long event that will attract more fans…:

He says the facilities where they normally hold fan day are not available due to construction right now, but adds none of that will affect football season.

Rumors are going around that the Saints are actively shopping veteran cornerback Delvin Breaux. The Advocate says the team is frustrated with his injury status over the last three years. When asked about the report Monday, coach Sean Payton said it’s club business, but it’s not unusual to have such talks…:

Breaux missed 9 games last season with a broken fibula and has missed a bulk of training camp this year with a leg injury.

The New Orleans Pelicans have released their 2017-18 schedule, and once again the Pels will open their home slate against the Golden State Warriors. Then they’ll face the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Smoothie King Center. New Orleans opens the season on Oct. 18 on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies.

As the Ragin Cajuns open week three of Fall Camp, Coach Mark Hudspeth said they are still working with some of the new and young players to follow the scheme of the plays they are presented…:

LSU has announced that fans will have to wait a little longer to take pictures and get autographs from their favorite players and coaches, as the annual Fan Day has been moved to the spring. Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette said there are many construction projects taking place on campus which just didn’t make Fan Day feasible this fall…:

Coach O says the offense dominated in the team’s second preseason game of training camp on Saturday. Derius Guice rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown, while Darrel Williams added 76 yards and a couple of touchdowns.  He says Nick Brossette has also performed well..:

Good news for the Saints. It looks like center Max Unger is moving closer to a full return to action. He had foot surgery in May and has been rehabbing, but today he was back on the practice field and went through stretching exercises with the rest of the team.

 

The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced that rookie running back Leonard Fournette won’t play in their preseason game Thursday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a foot injury.

 

Longtime Arkansas football coach and athletic director Frank Broyles died on Monday at age 92. He suffered complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.

 

LSU announced today that it’s moving this year’s Fan Day and all future fan days to the spring. The school says it’s making this move because of facility renovations, as construction is going on at the PMAC, the field house, and the basketball practice gym.

In last Saturday’s scrimmage, Etling threw for 114 yards and a pair interceptions, while Brennan had 107 yards passing and a touchdown. Orgeron says Etling is still the starting quarterback right now…

This is the final week of preseason camp before school starts.

The Baton Rouge Advocate reports the Saints are looking to trade cornerback Delvin Breaux. The report says the team is frustrated with the number of games he’s missed because of injuries the last three years. Head Coach Sean Payton would not comment on the report, but did say availability is as important as anything else. Payton also said he’s optimistic starting center Max Unger will see playing time in the third preseason game.

Former LSU running back Leonard Fournette will not see any time on the field over the next two days because of a nagging foot injury. Fournette played in Jacksonville’s preseason opener, but he missed several games at LSU last year because of a foot injury suffered in preseason camp.

The NBA releases its regular season schedule tonight at 5:00. ESPN announced last week that the Pelicans will host the defending champs, Golden State, during the first week of the regular season, which is expected to begin sooner this season, in order to avoid back-to-back games.

Quarterback Drew Brees slammed his helmet down to the ground at one point as a result of a high snap and a blown assignment on protection. High snaps have been a common theme as starting center Max Unger continues to recover from foot surgery.

Jacksonville has shut down former LSU running back Leonard Fournette because of a nagging foot injury. Fournette is not expected to participate in practices today and tomorrow. He missed several games last season because of a foot injury.

There were some positives. The first-team defense did not allow a first down in the three series they were on the field. Rookie running back Alvin Kamara also had a nice debut, with four carries for 34 yards.

The NBA season will be here before you know it. The full 82-game schedule should be out soon. We do know the Pelicans will host the defending NBA champs on October 20th at the Smoothie King Center. The game will be shown on ESPN as part of the network’s opening week of televised games.

The Saints preseason losing streak is now 10 games after losing to Cleveland 20-14 last night. TommyLee Lewis helped his case when it comes to making the roster has caught 10 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. Rookie Alvin Kamara also looked good as he had four carries for 35 yards. The first team defense did not allow a touchdown in the first quarter, but the defense didn’t force any turnovers either. The Saints next preseason game is Sunday August 20th against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Former LSU running back Leonard Fournette carried the ball nine times for 31 yards and a touchdown in Jacksonville’s 31-24 win over New England. Afterwards, Fournette says playing in that game was easy for him, because he played in the SEC. Fournette didn’t feel the speed of the game was that different.

And former LSU wide receiver Malachi Dupre had to be carted off the field last night after taking a big hit. But Dupre tweeted this morning that he’ll be okay.

The LSU football team has to replace two first round draft picks in their secondary, as Jamal Adams and TreDavious White are both in the NFL. But cornerback Donte Jackson doesn’t expect much of a talent drop-off…

In their first preseason game of the season, though they had a stellar start, the Saints struggled on defense which gave up four pass plays of 20-plus yards, including a 45-yard touchdown in a 20-14 loss to the Browns. It was New Orleans’ 10th consecutive preseason loss. The Saints decided to rest quarterback Drew Brees, defensive end Cameron Jordan and running backs Mark Ingram and Adrian Peterson.

Former LSU star Leonard Fournette’s professional pro career got off to a good start last night as the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots 31-24 in preseason action. Fournette scored his first NFL career touchdown, a 1-yard run straight up the middle, with less than 2 minutes left in the first half.

The NBA announced the Pelicans will host the defending champion Golden State Warriors at 8:30pm on October 20th, as part of its opening week slate.

LSU’s Kevin Toliver is the likely starting cornerback opposite of Donte Jackson. Coming out of high school in Jacksonville, Florida, Toliver was considered as one of the nation’s top corner prospects. In two seasons at LSU, Toliver has one interception and missed the final four games of last season due to a shoulder injury. He says he’s ready to be an impact player this season..:

The Saints and Browns meet in Cleveland tonight for the preseason opener for both teams. ESPN is reporting running back Adrian Peterson will not play and also the team’s two first round picks are expected to watch from the sidelines. Cornerback Marhson Lattimore tweaked his knee and left tackle Ryan Ramczyk hasn’t practiced all week with an unspecified injury. But third round pick Alvin Kamara will play. The running back from Tennessee has looked good at camp so far this season. Kick-off is at 7 PM.

One of the better schools in Class Five-A football, John Ehret has fired its head football coach. Corey Lambert is a former quarterback of the Patriots and led the Marrero school to the class 5A finals in 2015. A New Orleans television station is reporting the LHSAA is investigating the school, because they have two-student athletes who Ehret claimed to be homeless, but an investigator has determined that’s not the case.

There is some good news regarding LSU’s injury plagued offensive line. Coach Ed Orgeron says left tackle K-J Malone is back at practice…

Orgeron also says the quarterback is not over. Danny Etling is still number one on the depth chart. However true freshman Myles Brennan has looked impressive, but he’s not ready to play yet.

Former LSU Coach Les Miles says he’ll be a member of the media this football season. The mad hatter’s first assignment is with the SEC Network as he’ll serve as a guest analyst on SEC Nation, which will be in Arlington, Texas on September 2nd for the Michigan-Florida game.

There is some good news regarding the banged up offensive line. Left tackle KJ Malone is back at practice, but starting center Will Clapp and starting right tackle Toby Weathersby remain out because of camp injuries.

Former LSU football coach Les Miles will do some TV work this season. He’ll be a guest analyst for the SEC Network for their coverage of the Florida-Michigan game in Dallas. The 63-year-old, who still lives in Baton Rouge, hopes to be coaching again in 2018.

The Saints open the preseason schedule tonight by visiting the Cleveland Browns. Quarterback Drew Brees and running backs Adrian Peterson and Mark Ingram are not expected to play. Because of injuries to Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk at left tackle, expect veteran Khalif Barnes to start.

CBS Sports has releasded its bowl projections for 2017. They have the LSU Tigers playing Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl. Louisiana Tech playing New Mexico in the New Mexico Bowl on December 16.

We’re just a few weeks away from the start of the high school football season and John Ehret has dismissed head coach Corey Lambert. Lambert led the Patriots to a 40-20 record over the last five seasons and John Ehret played in the Class 5A championship game in 2015.

The Pelicans four-game preseason schedule is out. They’ll play one game at the Smoothie King Center and that will be against the Chicago Bulls on October 3rd.
