LSU’s All-American pass rusher Arden Key practiced fully for the first time this fall yesterday. Head Coach Ed Orgeron said on his weekly talk show that Key has not been cleared to play, but he’s making progress and they’ll know more next week.

The Saints are optimistic starting tackle Terron Armstead will be able to return soon from shoulder surgery. The team had the option to place Armstead on the PUP list, which would have kept him out of action for an extended period of time. But Armstead is currently on the active 53-man roster.

Super Bowl champions Reggie Wayne and Brandon Stokley will be enshrined into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame next year. Both were teammates with the Colts from 2003 to 2006 and won a Super Bowl together. Stokley has two Super Bowl Rings, while Wayne is a six-time pro bowler.

Other inductees include former LSU star and 18-year Major League Baseball pitcher Russ Springer, plus Notre Dame of Crowley football coach Lewis Cook.

ULM has a tough challenge on the road this Saturday as they visit 10th ranked Florida State. The Warhawks lost their season opener 37-to-29 to Memphis. ULM had four turnovers in the defeat and Head Coach Matt Viator wants his team to do a better job at protecting the football….

Kick-off time for this game has been moved up to 11:00, because of Hurricane Irma.

Other than LSU, there are three schools who will have their home opener this Saturday. McNeese is taking on Florida Tech, Grambling hosts Northwestern State. It’s only the fourth ever meeting between the two north Louisiana schools and first since 2009. Also on Saturday, Southeastern Louisiana hosts Bethune Cookman.

The Tigers getting ready to take on Chatanooga in Death Valley on what looks to be a beautiful and even chilly Saturday night. In LSU’s 27-0 shutout victory over BYU, the Tigers forced just one turnover. Linebacker Devin White says the goal against is to create multiple turnovers in every game…:

If you’re going to the game, don’t expect a pat-down. LSU announced it would eliminate the searches mainly due to its new recent clear bag policy. Student government had fought against the pat-downs in the student section saying it unnecessarily slowed fans down from getting into the game.

The Ragin Cajuns won their season opener over Southeastern Louisiana 51-48. UL Lafayette Coach Mark Hudspeth says he would like to see fewer points given up this Saturday against Tulsa, who averaged 43 points a contest last year:

The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame announced its class of 2018 and highlighting the class are former NFL stars Reggie Wayne and Brandon Stokley. Both were teammates with the Colts from 2003 to 2006 and won a Super Bowl together. Stokley has two Super Bowl Rings, while Wayne is a six-time pro bowler.

Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said today that rookie tackle Ryan Ramczyk will be ready for the season opener on Monday at Minnesota. Payton says receivers Tommylee Lewis and Brandon Coleman will play a lot, especially since Willie Snead will miss the first three weeks because of a suspension for a DUI.

LSU’s defense had a stellar performance in its shutout win over BYU on Saturday night. Greedy Williams intercepted his first pass. After the contest, Williams heard from former LSU Tiger and another Shreveport native TreDavious White….

LSU’s game this Saturday against Chattanooga has been moved to the SEC Network channel. Kick-off is still at 6:30.

ULM’s contest against Florida State has been moved from seven PM to 11 AM because of Hurricane Irma. And in the NFL, the Buccaneers-Dolphins game scheduled for Sunday in Miami has been postponed because of Irma. The game will be played during Week 11 as both teams have a scheduled bye week. That means the Bucs and Fins will play 16 straight weeks.

LSU Quarterback Danny Etling was very efficient in Saturday’s 27-0 win over BYU. The senior was 14-of-17 for 171 yards and seemed in complete control of the offense. Etling is not considered one of the top quarterbacks in the SEC and Head Coach Ed Orgeron has a theory on why…:

The LHSAA released a policy statement that will allow member schools to treat student athletes evacuated by a storm as transfer students, allowing them to gain eligibility. Schools were instructed to follow the guidelines established for transfer students when seeking eligibility for those forced to move by Hurricane Harvey, and a new memo stated that the same guidelines would be used for students potentially displaced by Hurricane Irma.

But Coach Ed Orgeron would rather not see Derrius Guice receive 27 carries like he did against BYU. Also, Orgeron said that outside linebacker Arden Key is still not cleared for contact.

The Saints have placed cornerback Delvin Breaux on injured reserve, so he’ll miss the first seven games because of a broken fibula. That opened a roster spot so the team can sign offensive tackle Bryce Harris. Harris provides depth in case Ryan Ramczyk or Zach Streif get hurt.

LSU fans are still glowing about the impressive shutout victory over BYU, and today are slated to hear from Head Coach Ed Orgeron who will recap the game during Lunch with Coach O. He’ll also preview The Bayou Bengals upcoming contest against Chattanooga in Death Valley this Saturday night.

It’s reported that Tigers defensive end Rashard Lawrence was absent from practice Monday afternoon. His absence was considered simply “precautionary,” according to a source.

The bad news keeps rolling in for former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis who is the D-C at Texas A&M. The Aggies blew an 34-point lead in the final 20 minutes of a 45-44 loss to UCLA Sunday night, and now the Aggies starting quarterback Nick Starkel and defensive back Donovan Wilson might be lost for the rest of the season after both underwent surgery Monday.

The New Orleans Saints placed cornerback Delvin Breaux on injured reserve, and brought back offensive tackle Bryce Harris, according to Monday’s NFL Transactions report. The Black and Gold are set to take on Minnesota in Monday Night Football Action on September 11th.

In the Ragin Cajuns season-opening 51-48 win over Southeastern Louisiana, UL-Lafayette sophomore Raymond Calais was named the Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week after setting a school record with a pair of kickoff returns for touchdowns. The Cajuns return to action Saturday when the team visits Tulsa.

After earning votes in the Top 25 Coaches and STATS FCS preseason polls, Nicholls State made the jump up to 30th in the coaches poll, and placed 36th in the STATS FCS poll.

The New York Giants are not saying what former LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s status will be for the season opener against Dallas. He still wasn’t practicing Monday, and the team said he’s still working with training staff and getting treatment for a sprained ankle he suffered in a preseason game August 21st.

It was a very impressive performance by LSU’s defense on Saturday as the Tigers held BYU to 97 total yards, negative five rushing yards in a 27-0 win over the Cougars. It’s the first time the Tigers have shutout an opponent since 2014 and first opening game shutout since the 2007 national championship team. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says it was a great performance…

Last night was not a good night for former LSU defensive coordindator John Chavis, who is the D-C at Texas A-and-M. The Aggies were up by 34 points last night to UCLA, but the Bruins came back to win 45-44.

UL Lafayette got a nice peformance from quarterback Jordan Davis, who was 12 of 23 for 162 yards and a touchdown in his first career start as the Cajuns outscored Southeastern Louisiana 51-48. Head Coach Mark Hudspeth….

The Cajuns week two match-up is against Tulsa.

ULM is at Florida State this Saturday. The Seminoles will have a new starting quarterback as Deondre Francois is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Louisiana Tech will welcome Mississippi State to Ruston this Saturday. The Bulldogs beat Northwestern State 52 to 24 on Saturday as Jarred Craft found the end zone three times.

The 2017 season is off to a good start for the LSU Tigers. The Bayou Bengals blanked BYU 27-0 as the Tigers outgained the Cougars 479-to-97. Derrius Guice rushed for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns. Elsewhere around the state, Louisiana Tech had a convincing 52-24 victory over Northwestern State Saturday night. Senior Jarred Craft scored three touchdowns, including a pair of fourth quarter scores. Tulane hammered Grambling State 44-14.

Not much defense was played Saturday in Lafayette as the Ragin Cajuns outlasted Southeastern Louisiana 51-48. The Lions rushed for 343 yards. UL Lafayette Coach Mark Hudspeth says they were over pursuing on defense…:

The Ragin’ Cajuns host Sacred Heart this Saturday.

The Saints have set their 53 man roster that will open the season in one week against the Vikings. There weren’t many surprises. Adrian Peterson played for Minnesota his entire career, and now the New Orleans running back told the Star-Tribune he looks forward to sticking it to the Vikings during the Monday Night football game. The Saints announced Willie Snead will be suspended 3 games for a DWI arrest in June.

A lot of Louisiana residents will spend their Saturday watching college football. The headliner is LSU versus BYU at the Mercedes Benz Superdome at 8:30. The Tigers will debut a new offense and on defense they will look to generate a pass rush without All-American edge rusher Arden Key, who is out as he recovers from shoulder surgery.

At six o’ clock in Ruston, it’s Louisiana Tech versus Northwestern State. J’Mar Smith replaces Ryan Higgins at quarterback and the Bulldogs must replace two talented wide receivers, Trent Taylor and Corey Henderson. Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz on the production he anticipates from his wide outs…

In Lafayette, it’s the Ragin Cajuns versus Southeastern Louisiana. UL Lafayette has a new offensive coordinator by the name of Will Hall and they have a new quarterback, Jordan Davis. S-L-U plans on playing two quarterbacks…South Carolina transfer Lorenzo Nunuz and junior Donovan Isom.

And the Saints will not have wide receiver Willie Snead for the first three games of the season. He’s been suspended because of an off-season DUI. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the suspension was reduced from four to three games on appeal.

The NFL preseason is over and now we wait to see who makes the Saints 53-man roster. New Orleans dropped it’s final preseason game as Baltimore won 14 to 13 last night. One of the highlights of the game was the strip sack by sixth-round draft pick Al-Quadin Muhammad. He’s one of several players on the bubble.

We finally get to see LSU’s new look offense tomorrow when they take on BYU in the season opener at the Mercedes Benz Superdome. Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada says even though the players are working with a new playbook, he expects his guys to play well…

What a thrilling game in Thibodaux last night as kicker Lorran Fonseca hit a 32-yard field goal as time expried to give Nicholls a 37-35 win over Mcneese. The victory for the Colonels snapped an eight-game losing streak against the Cowboys. James Tabary led McNeese with 238 yards passing and three touchdowns.

ULM dropped its season opener to Memphis 37-29. Caleb Evans started at quarterback, but Garrett Smith performed better as he threw for 171 yards and rushed for another 48 yards.

The Ragin Cajuns begin the season by hosting Southeastern Louisiana. UL Lafayette was inconsistent on offense last season and Coach Mark Hudspeth hopes that’s not the case this season, despite some new faces…
