LSU is the new number one team in D-1 baseball’s Top 25 poll. The Tigers went 4-0 last week in Texas and second baseman Daniel Dickinson is emerging as a star for this team. The transfer from Utah Valley is leading the Tigers with 21 RBIs. Dickinson didn’t have a single scholarship offer from a Division One school coming out of high school in Seattle, but that didn’t stop him…

Dickinson drove in six runs in Friday’s 10-inning win over Kansas State in the Frisco College Baseball Classic.

Tonight…McNeese will take on Stephen F Austin in a game that will be on ESPN-U. Northwestern State will host UIW. Nicholls travels to Lamar,  Southeastern Louisiana visits UTRGV, and Grambling visits Bethune-Cookman.

Former LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell ran the 40 yard dash under five seconds and made a vertical jump over 30 inches at the NFL draft combine, which is impressive for the former Neville star. Campbell was a three-year starter at LSU. In his final 30 games, he allowed only two sacks. Campbell puts his resume up against any of the other tackles…

The LSU women’s basketball team lost its fourth game of the season yesterday, falling to Ole Miss 85 to 77. The Lady Tigers finish the regular season 27-4, 12-4 in the SEC and they are the three-seed in the SEC tourney which is this week. Flau’Jae Johnson will not play in the conference tournament as she’s out with a shin injury.

D-1 Baseball has the LSU Tigers ranked number one in the country after winning five games last week, including four in Texas and three at the Frisco College Baseball Classic. The Tigers completed their road trip with a 12 to 8 win over Sam Houston yesterday. LSU is scheduled to host North Dakota State tomorrow.

The Saints have the ninth overall selection in the NFL draft. And former LSU offensive tackle Campbell confirms one of the teams he spoke with at the Combine was the Black and Gold. He says it would be an honor to play for the Saints…

Campbell could be the first offensive tackle taken in the draft, but there’s a concern his arms are not long enough to play offensive tackle in the NFL.

 

The seventh-ranked LSU Lady Tigers coughed up a 15-point third quarter lead and lost to Ole Miss, 85-77 yesterday. It was LSU’s second consecutive loss and fourth loss of the season. Senior Aneesah Morrow scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, making it her 100th career double-double. After the game, Morrow said despite the loss, it’s a significant milestone.

LSU played yesterday’s game without Flau’Jae Johnson, who is dealing with a shin injury and Johnson will not play in this week’s SEC Tournament.

Semi-final action begins today in the girls high school basketball tournament. The first game of the day in Hammond is Lake View versus Midland, followed by Arcadia against White Castle, Summerfield plays Plainview, Simpson goes up against Reeves at 6:15 and the final game of the day is Academy Sacred Heart against Rosepine.

The seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team finished the regular season yesterday with an 85 to 77 loss to Ole Miss. The Lady Tigers were without superstar Flau’Jae Johnson, who was out with inflammation in her shin. Coach Kim Mulkey said especially since the game meant nothing in terms of their seed in the SEC Tournament, she sat Johnson….

LSU will be the three-seed in this week’s SEC Tournament.

The second-ranked LSU baseball team won all three games at the Frisco College Baseball Classic. The Tigers topped Sam Houston 12 to 8 yesterday. Josh Pearson, who was six for nine at the plate, was named tournament MVP.

Former LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell is expected to be a top-ten pick in the NFL draft, but some question whether he can play tackle in the NFL because of his short arms. He measured 32 5/8 inches at the NFL draft combine on Sunday. NFL teams prefer tackles with 34 or 35 inch arms. Campbell is confident he can play offensive tackle in the NFL…

The Saints are reportedly considering releasing 32-year-old safety Tyrann Mathieu before the start of free agency. The three-time All-Pro performer has one year left on his contract. Mathieu has 47 solo tackles and three interceptions last season.

Thrilling win for the LSU Tigers yesterday in the opening game of the Frisco College Baseball Classic as LSU defeated Kansas State eight to five in ten innings. Josh Pearson had the game-winning hit and Daniel Dickinson drove in six runs. Casan Evans earned the win as he pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The Tigers will take on Nebraska this afternoon at around 4 PM.

 

ULM scored seven runs in the ninth inning to erase a four-run deficit and then had to hold on to beat Missouri State nine to eight. Jackson Landry’s home run in the ninth inning was the difference in the game.

 

20th ranked UC Irvine scored three runs in the eighth inning and defeated U-L Lafayette seven to four. Game two of the series is at 3 PM today.

 

Memphis defeated Louisiana Tech seven to two as the Bulldogs fall to 5-and-4 on the season.

 

Southland Conference play started on Friday, Southeastern Louisiana downed Northwestern State six to two and McNeese knocked off Nicholls five to one. The Cowboys are now 7-and-1.

LSU men’s basketball faces another ranked team this afternoon as the Tigers visit 24th ranked Mississippi State. A loss and the Tigers will fall under the .500 mark for the first time this season.

 

Louisiana Tech will try to return to the five-hundred mark in Conference USA play with a win at Sam Houston.

 

In the Southland…McNeese is at Lamar, Nicholls visits Stephen F Austin, Southeastern is at Corpus Christi and Northwestern State hosts Houston Christian.

 

Last night, ULM, UL-Lafayette and the Pelicans all lost. New Orleans saw its three-game winning streak come to an end.

 

The Sun Belt released its football schedule for 2025. UL Lafayette will open Sun Belt play on September 27th and will host Marshall in a rematch of last season’s conference title game. ULM hosts Arkansas State on September 27th to begin Sun Belt play. The Warhawks and Cajuns close out the regular season in Lafayette.

 

And second ranked LSU gymnastics posted a score of 198.125 in a win over George Washington at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge.

For only the third time all season, the LSU women’s basketball team lost a game last night as the seventh-ranked Lady Tigers fell to 20th ranked Alabama 88 to 85. LSU fell behind by 13 points in the second quarter and rallied back thanks to 22 points from Mikaylah Williams.  Coach Kim Mulkey had this to say afterwards….

Tonight marks the final time ULM’s Keith Richard (REE-shard) will coach his team in Fant-Ewing Coliseum. Richard is retiring at the end of the season, following 15 years as a head coach at his alma mater. Richard also played at ULM, was a grad assistant and an assistant coach….

Kade Anderson has looked good in the Friday night role, but the left-hander was upset after he gave up two runs in his last start. Coach Jay Johnson says Anderson expects a lot out of himself…

Since 2014, LSU has had ten defensive line coaches, and they are looking for another one after Bo Davis decided to jump to the NFL and join the new coaching staff for the New Orleans Saints. Davis is considered one of the top defensive line coaches in all of football.

The second-ranked LSU baseball team had its best victory of the season last night as the Tigers defeated 19th-ranked Dallas Baptist seven to three at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Daniel Dickinson drove in three runs and hit his second home run of the year and LSU pitching struck out 13 hitters. Freshman Casan Evans pitched two innings for his second save of the year. The freshman from Houston came in during the 8th inning with two runners on and nobody out…

The Tigers are now in Frisco, Texas and they’ll play Kansas State at 2 PM tomorrow.

LSU has lost its defensive line coach to the Saints. Bo Davis is leaving his alma mater after one season and his departure comes with spring football right around the corner.

The fifth-ranked LSU softball team stayed undefeated today with a 2- 1 win over fourth ranked UCLA in Fullerton, California. Sydney Berzon was the winning pitcher and Tori Edwards and Sierra Daniel each had RBI singles.

The seventh ranked LSU women’s basketball team is at 20th ranked Alabama. The Lady Tigers are looking for win number 28 on the season, which would be a program record for most regular season wins.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team finds itself in seventh place in Conference USA and the top six teams get a bye in the upcoming league tournament. Coach Talvin Hester is more concerned about how his team is playing…

The second-ranked LSU baseball team showed off its depth last night in a seven to three win against 19th-ranked Dallas Baptist in front of 57-hundred fans at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The Tigers took control with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by two pinch-hit RBIs. An RBI double from Ethan Frey and an RBI single from John Pearson. In between those two hits, was a two-run home run from Daniel Dickinson. LSU will stay in Texas for the weekend and they’ll play in Frisco tomorrow against Kansas State.

The Ragin Cajuns and Northwestern State were also winners last night.

The 7th ranked LSU women’s basketball team faces another ranked opponent on the road tonight. The Lady Tigers are at 20th ranked Alabama. LSU is 27-and-2 on the season and a win tonight would give the Lady Tigers their most wins ever in a regular season. Alabama is 22-and-6, 9-and-5 in the SEC.

Spring football is right around the corner and LSU is losing its defensive line coach as the New Orleans Saints are reportedly adding Bo Davis to their staff. Davis was the highest paid defensive line coach in college football as Coach Brian Kelly convinced him to leave Texas to coach at his alma mater. But now Davis is returning to the NFL. He was previously the Detroit Lions D-Line coach from 2018 to 2019.

A Baton Rouge lawmaker is preparing to file a bill for the upcoming regular session that would make NIL deals tax free for college athletes, meaning they will not have to pay state income taxes on them. State Representative Dixon McMakin says the proposal would help Louisiana schools attract and retain top talent.

Other states, including Illinois, Alabama, and Georgia, are pursuing similar legislation. The 2025 legislative session begins on April 14th.

The second-ranked LSU baseball team handled its first major test of the season well last night as the Tigers defeated 19th-ranked Dallas Baptist seven to three at Globe Life Field in Arlington. Derek Curiel scored three times and Daniel Dickinson drove in three runs including a two-run homer in a four-run fifth inning. Connor Ware started and retired the first 12 hitters he faced. Casan Evans got the save as he pitched out of trouble in the eighth and was dominant in the ninth. LSU will play Kansas State in Frisco on Friday afternoon.

Also, the Ragin Cajuns outscored Southeastern Louisiana nine to seven. Tate Hess struck out a career-high seven and earned the win, Conor Higgs hit his second home run of the season. And Northwestern State defeated Alcorn State 10 to 5.

Basketball…the Ragin Cajuns lost to Arkansas State 83 to 64 and UNO is involved in a gambling scandal involving four of its best players, which is why they haven’t played since late January.

It sounds like Derek Carr will be the Saints quarterback next season, based on comments made by General Manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Kellen Moore at the draft combine in Indianapolis. Moore says the Saints are fortunate to have Carr. It’s still possible that the Saints will try to adjust Carr’s contract to free up more salary cap dollars.

The NFL says it will use a virtual measuring system to determine first downs in 2025. The chain gains will still be used as backups.

In the upcoming regular legislative session, Baton Rouge Representative Dixon McMakin says he will propose a bill that calls for earnings through NIL deals to be exempt from state income taxes.  McMakin says schools outside of Louisiana are recruiting the Bayou State’s best prospects and tax-free NIL compensation can help athletes decide to stay home.

The second-ranked LSU baseball team faces its toughest test of the season tonight as they will battle 19th ranked Dallas Baptist at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. LSU shortstop Stevan Milam (MYE-lim) is swinging a hot bat. He only had four hits in the first six games, but he has five hits in his last two games and on Monday night he drove in a career-high five runs. Coach Jay Johnson knew it was only a matter of time before Milam would get going…

For the second consecutive game against the San Antonio Spurs, the Pelicans found themselves down by double digits but still came back to win. Last night in the Smoothie King Center, New Orleans trailed by 19 points but played well in the second and fourth quarters to beat the Spurs 109 to 103. The University of New Orleans men’s basketball team is under investigation for sports gambling. Four of the top five Privateer players have not played since January 27th and the school confirms they have been suspended, but is not releasing any more information. College basketball analyst Jeff Goodman was the first to report about a possible sports betting scandal at the school.
