Memphis also lost last night, so New Orleans is now four games back of the Grizzlies for the final playoff spot. The Pels are at Golden State on Sunday. The Warriors have lost five in a row.

The LSU basketball team can sure use a win. They are at South Carolina for a five PM tip off today. The Tigers have lost four of their last five and they have not won in South Carolina since 2014.

Louisiana Tech is at Conference USA leader North Texas for a 3 PM tip off.

On a cold night in Alex Box Stadium, LSU’s bats couldn’t do anything in a two to nothing loss to Eastern Kentucky. The Tigers had just three hits and were one for 17 with runners on base. LSU falls to three and three on the season and they will look to even the series today at three PM.

Louisiana Tech suffered its first loss of the season last night as they were blanked by Troy four to nothing. The Bulldogs had just one hit.

The Ragin Cajuns shutout Virginia Tech two to nothing. Conor Angel threw 7.1 innings and struck out seven to earn his first career win. Same two teams play again at two PM.

ULM thumped Grambling State 15 to 0. Ty Barnes carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. He had plenty of offensive support as the Warhawks scored 10 runs in the first three innings. Mason Holt and Logan Wurm each had three hits and drove in two runs.

Today on the ULM campus, the Warhawks will host the Cajuns in college basketball at 2:30 PM.U-L Lafayette beat Louisiana-Monroe by 21 earlier this season.

The NFL owners have approved a new proposed collective bargaining agreement that would reportedly expand the playoff field from 12 to 14 teams. The players will discuss the deal today, but many of them oppose the proposal to expand the N-F-L’s 16-game regular season by one game, even though it would mean more money for the players.

After a sloppy loss at Nicholls on Wednesday, the 11th ranked LSU baseball team returns to the Box tonight to host Eastern Kentucky. Coach Paul Mainieri is asking his starters to go six innings against a good hitting team…

Mainieri says this weekend he plans to give Wes Toups a shot in left field, Hal Hughes will start at shortstop and freshman catcher Alex Milazzo will get two starts behind the plate.

Louisiana Tech looks to stay undefeated as the Bulldogs are at Troy. ULM and Grambling begin a three-game series tonight at Warhawk Field. The Ragin Cajuns will host Virginia Tech.

LSU men’s basketball is at South Carolina tomorrow. The Tigers have lost four of their last five. In women’s hoops, top-ranked South Carolina beat the Lady Tigers 63 to 48.

For just the third time this century Nicholls beat LSU in baseball as the Colonels doubled up the Tigers four to two last night in Thibodaux. Sophomore left-hander Tyler Theriot was terrific on the mound as he threw 5.1 innings of shutout baseball. He struck out seven. Brayden Joubert had a solo home run for the Colonels. Meanwhile, LSU pitching walked eight, hit four other batters and the Tigers defense also made a couple of errors in the field.

Also on the baseball diamond last night, Little Rock defeated Grambling six to four and Tulane topped the Ragin Cajuns nine to six. U-L Lafayette could not recover from falling behind eight to anything after two innings.

In college basketball last night, Tulane snapped a nine-game losing streak with an 80-72 win over SMU. Georgia upset 13th ranked Auburn 65-55. So, LSU, Auburn, and Florida are in a three-way tie for second place, two games back of Kentucky for first place. LSU is at South Carolina on Saturday.

In the NFL, owners will gather in New York today to discuss the status of labor negotiations with the NFL Players Association. The NFL Network reports A new labor agreement could expand the regular season to 17 games, starting in 2022, but several players have spoken out about expanding the regular season. A new C-B-A could also expand the number of teams that make the playoffs from 12 to 14 and only the top team from each conference would get a first-round bye.

Back to basketball…it’s been a tough season for ULM, but they had a nice win on the road last night as the Warhawks defeated Arkansas State 66-52. Tyree White led the way with 18 points.

McNeese lost its fifth straight falling to U-I-W 65-59. Nicholls ended Northwestern State’s four-game winning streak as the Colonels beat the Demons 73-69. Nicholls is 12-4 in the Southland and in second place. The Demons are in fifth place and the Cowboys fall to eighth place.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees announces with an Instagram post that he will play in 2020 after spending the last month of the season decompressing from another tough playoff loss. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says the future Hall of Famer had the option of getting a TV gig…

Detillier says the question now is how much Brees will get paid as he’ll need to sign a new contract to play for the Black and Gold next season. Also, Brees’ return means Teddy Bridgewater will likely sign elsewhere and Taysom Hill will now become Brees’ primary back-up, but New Orleans has to sign the restrictive free agent to a new contract.

LSU Associate Athletics Director Verge Ausberry tells Tiger Rag Radio that LSU will play its spring game on April 18th at Southern University’s Mumford Stadium. The scrimmage can’t be played in Death Valley, because a new drainage system and turf is being installed at Tiger Stadium.

The LSU basketball team has a chance to move back into a first-place tie with Kentucky tonight if the Tigers can upset the 10th ranked Wildcats. LSU won its first eight SEC games this season, but have lost three of its last four. Coach Will Wade doesn’t think the Tigers have become a bad team…

Kentucky’s best player is six-foot-eleven junior forward Nick Richards, who is averaging almost 15 points and eight rebounds a game. Tip time is at 8 PM.

Northwestern State football coach Brad Laird is on administrative leave for one week following his D-W-I arrest last Saturday night in Natchitoches. In a statement, Laird says he regrets his poor decision and apologizes to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk.

LSU football fans should start to prepare for a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah. The Tigers and the Utes have agreed to a home-and-home football series in 2031 and 2032. The first game will be played in Salt Lake and the Utes will return the trip to Tiger Stadium in 2032. This continues the trend of LSU signing up for more home and home series with Power Five Schools. Over the next decade, the Tigers will host Texas, UCLA, Clemson, Oklahoma and Arizona State at Tiger Stadium.

The LSU basketball team has fallen out of the AP Top 25. The Bayou Bengals were ranked 25th last week, but lost to Alabama 88-82 in their third defeat in their last four games. LSU has also fallen out of first place, but can get back into a first-place tie with a win over Kentucky tomorrow. The Wildcats will be in the PMAC for an eight PM tip.

In action tonight, Grambling is at Texas Southern, while Southern University hosts Mississippi Valley State.

The Tigers host Southern tomorrow. The Jaguars went two and two at the Andre Dawson Classic in New Orleans over the weekend, including a seven to five loss to Grambling.

It was a great opening weekend for Louisiana Tech. They beat the Ragin Cajuns twic and defeated Southeastern Louisiana two to nothing. Junior Jarret Whorff was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week. The junior from Texas threw 6.1 scoreless innings in a 10-0 win over U-L Lafayette yesterday.

The LSU basketball team is gearing up for a big game tomorrow night as Big Blue comes to town. The Tigers and Kentucky Wildcats are set to tip-off at 8 PM. Kentucky is in first place in the SEC and they have won four in a row, since losing to Auburn. LSU is now in a tie for second place after losing to Alabama on Saturday. The Tigers have lost three of their last four since winning their first eight SEC games.

Conference USA has finalized its bonus play schedule. Louisiana Tech will visit first-place North Texas on Saturday. The Bulldogs are on a two-game winning streak after beating Florida Atlantic 81-68 on Saturday. Senior guard Derric Jean had a career-high 21 points to lead the way. The Miami native says he wanted to play well on Senior Day…

LSU will host the top team in the SEC tomorrow night when 12th ranked Kentucky visits the PMAC. The Wildcats have won four in a row, while the Tigers are coming off an 88-82 loss to Alabama.

The Cajuns win over Troy on Saturday puts U-L Lafayette in position to make the Sun Belt Tournament as a 10-seed. The Cajuns are at ULM on Saturday, who is 3-and-13 in the league and will likely miss the tournament.

For the 19th straight year, LSU starts a baseball season with a victory. The 11th ranked Tigers defeated Indiana eight to one as Saul Garza and Cade Doughty homered. Doughty’s home run came on his first at bat in an LSU uniform. Cole Henry struck out eight over four innings for the win. Because of the chance of rain on Sunday, the two teams will play a doubleheader today starting at 1 PM.

There was a lot of emotion last night in Lafayette for the Ragin Cajuns first game since the passing of their longtime head coach Tony Robichaux. But U-L Lafayette could not come away with a victory as Southeastern Louisiana scored three runs in the sixth inning and held on for a three to two win.

Elsewhere, ULM downed Southeast Missouri State five to one. Ty Barnes pitched six strong innings for the win. Northwestern State cruahed Wichita State 11 to nothing, McNeese defeated MIssissippi VAlley State 9-zip and George Washington beat Nicholls seven to three.

Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson had 14 points in 20 minutes as he helped the U-S team beat the World team 151 to 131 in the Rising Stars Game in Chicago. Williamson had a monster slam in the second quarter that actually left the backboard slightly tilted to its left. A maintenance worker fixed the basket during half-time.

Today in college basketball..25th ranked LSU is at Alabama for a 3 PM tip-off. The Tigers enter action today in a three-way tie for first place with Kentucky and Auburn. Auburn is at Missouri, while the Wildcats host Ole Miss. LSU won in Tuscaloosa last season and if they win again today, they’ll have back-to-back victories in T-town for the first time in 30 years.

Also today, Louisiana Tech hosts Florida Atlantic. The Owls have lost three in a row. Southeastern will try to snap a five-game losing streak at Nicholls, while McNeese will look to end a three-game skid at Northwestern State.

Tonight is the first game for the Ragin Cajuns baseball program since the death of legendary head coach Tony Robichaux. Fans are asked to arrive early for tonight’s game for a pregame tribute to Coach Robe.

Three players from the Pelicans will compete in tonight’s NBA Rising Stars game as part of the All-Star Festivities in Chicago. Zion Williamson is on the U-S Team and Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Nicolo Melli will play for the World Team.

Former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow may have collected many accolades during his time as a Tiger, but he now has a new honor thanks to the Baton Rouge Zoo. Zoo spokesperson Robyn Lott says the public nominated and then voted on the top three names for a baby giraffe and “Burreaux” was the one to stick.
