The College World Series had its first weather delay and of course it happened with LSU’s game last night. Several games for the Tigers have been impacted by severe weather and rain this season. Lighting and then a strong thunderstorm, followed by a steady rain kept LSU and UCLA from finishing their game last night.

They will pick up this morning at 10 AM with LSU leading five to three in the fourth inning. The Tigers fell behind early as Anthony Eyanson allowed three runs in the first inning. But LSU responded with four runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a majestic three-run home run by Jared Jones.

LSU added another run in the third inning with a Luis Hernandez RBI single.

Eyanson is not expected to pitch today, so LSU could turn to freshman Casan Evans or Cooper Williams, since UCLA has a lot of left-handed bats in its line-up.

Arkansas stayed alive in the College World Series as Razorbacks right-hander Gage Wood threw the third no-hitter in C-W-S history as the Hogs blanked Murray State three to nothing. Wood also struck out a C-W-S record 19 hitters.

Arkansas plays again tonight against the loser of this morning’s game between LSU and UCLA.

Sterlington shortstop Miller Sheets has been named Mr. Baseball by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. The son of former Major Leaguer, Ben Sheets, hit .435 with three home runs and 57 RBIs as he helped the Panthers win a state championship. Sheets just completed his junior season and he’s committed to play at Baylor.

ESPN-dot-com college football reporter Pete Thamel is reporting we could see another round of realignment and Louisiana Tech could be one of the schools on the move. Thamel reports Texas State could be looking at joining a new Pac-12 and that would open the door for Tech to join the Sun Belt. The ESPN article says Tech is a favorite to join the Sun belt because of the natural rivalries with ULM, the Cajuns and Southern Miss. And Tech has strong baseball and softball programs. Western Kentucky would be the other option to leave Conference USA and join the Sun Belt.
