The LSU baseball team enjoyed last night off in Omaha after beating Arkansas in heart stopping fashion on Wednesday night. Coastal is also 3-0 in the College World Series and their pitching is lined up too.

Coastal Carolina’s weekend starters have ERAs below 3.30, led by Jacob Morrison, who is 12-0 with a 2.08 ERA. Ryan Lynch is a lockdown closer with nine saves. In 31 innings, he’s only allowed two earned runs. Dominick Carbone has also been very good, 6-0 with a 2.47 ERA in 27 appearances.

First pitch tomorrow is at 6 PM.

To balance its athletics budget, ULM is ending its women’s tennis program. The program consisted of eight scholarship athletes and ULM will honor their scholarships if the tennis student athletes decide to stay at the school. Athletics Director John Hartwell says as the students graduate or transfer, he says the scholarships will be reallocated to other women’s sports.

LSU is headed to the championship series at the College World Series after a walk-off six to five comeback win over Arkansas last night. The game was a rollercoaster for Tigers first baseman Jared Jones who failed to complete a double play in the top of the eighth, letting in the go-ahead Arkansas run. He responded with a game-tying solo homer in the bottom of the inning and a walk-off single in the ninth…

LSU will take on Coastal Carolina in a best-of-three series beginning Saturday. It will be a chance at revenge for both the Tigers and head coach Jay Johnson. The Chanticleers upset the Tigers in the 2016 Baton Rouge Super Regional before beating Johnson’s Arizona team in the championship series. This year’s Coastal team has won 26-straight games, the longest active streak entering the championship in College World Series history.

The LSU softball team signed two new transfers in Kentucky infielder Ally Hutchins and Louisville outfielder Char Lorenz. Hutchins started 58 games at third for the Wildcats last season batting .285 with six home runs and 19 RBI. Lorenz is coming off an All-ACC second Team freshman season with a .368 batting average and .677 slugging percentage. The Freshman All-American slugged nine home runs and set a new single-season freshman RBI record with 53.

Nicholls and the Southland conference announced they’ll be kicking off the 2025 college football season with a nationally televised week zero as the Colonels host Incarnate Word. Kickoff is scheduled for noon August 23 on ESPN2.

The Saints Hall of Fame announced cornerback Tracy Porter and Safety Brett Maxie will be joining the hall as the 2025 class. Porter, a Port Allen Native says it was a dream come true playing four years in New Orleans

The championship series against Coastal Carolina will begin Saturday night.

The newest inductees into the Saints Hall of Fame are cornerback Tracy Porter and safety Brett Maxie. Porter played four seasons in New Orleans, and had an interception in the 2009 NFC Championship game to set up the game winning field goal and a 74-yard interception return for a touchdown to cap the Saints Super Bowl win over the Colts.

Maxie played for the Black and Gold for nine seasons and recorded 438 tackles and 15 interceptions and he’s considered one of the best safeties in franchise history. He credits his family and his faith for where he is today and the shared values they instilled in him.

It was back and forth in the final few innings and LSU scored three runs in the ninth inning to win six to five. Absolute heart break for Arkansas who failed to make three plays in the ninth inning which allowed the Tigers to pull off the unbelievable come back.

LSU is heading to the championship series of the College World Series to play Coastal Carolina, who has won 26 straight games. Coastal eliminated Louisville 11 to 3. The Chanticleers are 56-11 and the 56 wins are the most in the nation. Game one of the title series is Saturday night at six PM.

The Saints Hall of Fame announced cornerback Tracy Porter and safety Brett Maxie have been selected for induction in 2025. They also honored former Porter recalled watching the second round of the 2008 draft with his mom.

The Port Allen native went on to make one of the biggest plays in the franchise’s history. A 76-yard pick six against Peyton Manning and the Colts to clinch Super 44.

Maxie was an undrafted free agent and played nine seasons for the Black and Gold is considered one of the best safeties in the franchise’s history.

LSU will look to punch their ticket to the College World Series championship series tonight versus Arkansas. The Tigers beat the Razorbacks 4-to-1 in their first game in Omaha behind a sensational performance from starter Kade Anderson. After a rain delay interrupted Anthony Eyanson’s start against UCLA Monday night, the Tigers were forced to send out freshman and recent Sunday starter Casan Evans in relief yesterday. Righties Zac Cowan or Jaden Noot will likely take the mound for the Tigers tonight, but LRN sports director Jeff Palermo says both options struggled their last time out…

Tiger fans could hope to see Eyanson in relief tonight after throwing just 44 pitches Monday. First pitch is set for 6:00. If the Razorbacks win the Tigers will be forced into an elimination rematch tomorrow.

Cornerback Tracy Porter and Safety Brett Maxie were announced as the inductees in the Saints Hall of Fame class of 2025. Porter is a Port Allen native drafted by the Saints in 2008. He spent four seasons wearing black and gold and is responsible for perhaps the biggest play in franchise history: a 76-yard pick six to secure a Super Bowl XLIV title. Porter says being selected for the Saints Hall of Fame was a new kind of honor…

Maxie spent nine seasons in New Orleans from 1985 to 1993. An undrafted free agent out of Texas Southern, he went on to help the Saints to their first ever winning season and playoff appearance in 1987.

Also honored were former WGNO Sports Director Ed Daniels who received the Joe Gemelli “Fleur de Lis” Award and Steve Gleason with the Saints Hall of Fame Courage Award.

Lamar Brown, the top recruit in Louisiana’s 2026 class canceled his visit to LSU this weekend after visiting Texas A&M last weekend. The University Lab five-star is set to announce his commitment July 10

Louisiana’s top recruit in the class of 2026, University Lab’s two-way lineman Lamar Brown looks to be trending away from LSU. The fifth-ranked overall recruit visited Texas A&M last weekend and has since canceled his visit to LSU. Brown is set to declare his commitment between Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU July 10.

ESPN’s most recent MLB mock draft by analyst Kiley McDaniel has LSU left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson going number one overall to the Nationals. Righty Anthony Eyanson was mocked 37th to the Rays.

The SEC announced conference opponents for the 2026 men’s basketball season. The league will tip-off January 3, and each team will play the fifteen others at least once with three faced a second time. LSU will host Alabama, Georgia Kentucky, Mississippi state and Missouri and visit Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Vanderbilt. The Tigers will play Arkansas, Texas A&M and South Carolina home and away.

ULM has discontinued its women’s tennis program due to increased operational and infrastructural costs. The Warhawks will now operate the NCAA minimum 16 division 1 teams.

It took two days, but LSU moved into the semis of the College World Series by beating UCLA nine to five. The game was suspended on Monday night by severe weather with LSU leading five to three in the fourth inning. When the game resumed Tuesday morning, the Tigers quickly added two runs and a few more runs as the game went along.

It was disappointing LSU could not finish the game on Monday. But Coach Jay Johnson did not allow it to bother him…

LSU will play Arkansas tonight. The Razorbacks eliminated UCLA last night seven to three. The Tigers need one win to advance to the title series.

The Pelicans have made a trade, and they now have two first round picks in the NBA draft that will take place a week from tonight. New Orleans already owned the seventh overall pick, added the 23rd overall selection after making a deal with the Indiana Pacers. The Pels also get the draft rights of Mojave King who last played in New Zealand. New Orleans sends Indiana a first round pick for 2026 the Pels got in a trade with Toronto.

The SEC announced the home and away opponents for the 2026 women’s basketball conference schedule. South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama and Texas are the big home games. They will also play the Longhorns in Austin. That’s the only team the Tigers are slated to face twice in the regular season.

LSU is on the verge of going 2-and-0 at the College World Series. The Tigers lead UCLA seven to three in the seventh inning at the time of this report. We’ll have more in future news and sportscasts.

Florida State left-hander Hudson Rowan has committed to Louisiana Tech. According to Bleed Tech Blue, Rowan has a fastball in the upper 90s. Rowan pitched for two seasons for the Seminoles and appeared in 26 games, made one start and had an ERA of 9.90. He did not pitch this past season.

Sterlington shortstop Miller Sheets has been named Mr. Baseball by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. The son of former Major Leaguer, Ben Sheets, hit .435 with three home runs and 57 RBIs as he helped the Panthers win a state championship. Sheets just completed his junior season, and he’s committed to play at Baylor.

 

ESPN-dot-com college football reporter Pete Thamel is reporting we could see another round of realignment and Louisiana Tech could be one of the schools on the move. Thamel reports Texas State could be looking at joining a new Pac-12 and that would open the door for Tech to join the Sun Belt. The ESPN article says Tech is a favorite to join the Sun belt because of the natural rivalries with ULM, the Cajuns and Southern Miss. And Tech has strong baseball and softball programs. Western Kentucky would be the other option to leave Conference USA and join the Sun Belt.
