Grambling was the only college baseball team from Louisiana to win a tournament game last night. The Tigers topped fourth seeded Arkansas Pine Bluff 13 to 6 in Birmingham. Chenar Brown homered and drove in four runs and Aries Gardner hit a three-run homer. Grambling plays Florida A-and-M tonight in a winner’s bracket game. Southern lost to Florida A-and-M nine to one yesterday and the Jags need to beat Arkansas Pine-Bluff to stay alive.

The Ragin Cajuns and Louisiana Tech are in the loser’s bracket in their respective conference tournaments. Fourth-seeded Marshall beat fifth seeded UL Lafayette nine to five. The Cajuns play Georgia Southern in an elimination game at 12:30 today.  Louisiana Tech could not hold on to a three-run lead and lost to Jacksonville State nine to seven. Tech plays Liberty today.

 

The LSU Tigers will find out today who they will play Friday night in the SEC Tournament. It will be either Auburn or Texas A-and-M. The Aggies blanked Mississippi State nine to nothing. LSU left-hander Kade Anderson is expected to start tomorrow night. Anderson has become one of the top pitchers in the country. He credits the team’s strength program and a new pitch he’s developed…

The Washington Nationals have placed former LSU star Dylan Crews on the ten-day injury list. Daniels has a left oblique strain. It’s been a struggle for Crews this season. He’s only hitting .196 with seven home runs and 15 RBIs.

The Tush Bush will continue to be a legal play in the NFL. A vote among the league’s owners to ban the play, came up two votes short of passing. The Saints reportedly voted against the proposal to ban the play. Head Coach Kellen Moore has a Super Bowl Ring because the Eagles perfected the short yardage play.

At the SEC Baseball Tournament today, 14th seeded Texas A-and-M blanked Mississippi State nine to nothing. The Aggies need an impressive in the SEC Tourney to have a shot at making the NCAA Tournament. A&M will play Auburn tomorrow and the winner of that game plays LSU on Friday night.

LSU baseball is ranked number one in all of the polls but have they done enough to be a Top 8 National seed, which puts them in position to host a Super Regional if they win their Regional. But LSU is ranked eighth in the RPI which is a metric the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee relies on when determining seeding. LSU Pitcher Kade Anderson believes the Tigers should be a Top 8 national seed…

In college baseball tournament action tonight…Louisiana Tech will play Jacksonville State in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament. Grambling plays Arkansas Pine Bluff. Southern lost earlier today to Florida A-and-M by the score of nine to one. The Ragin Cajuns will match up with Marshall in the Sun Belt Tournament.

KNOE-TV’s Aaron Dietrich is reporting former LSU and Northeast Louisiana baseball coach Smoke Laval is interested in returning to Monroe to be next head coach of the ULM Warhawks.

At the state capitol, the Louisiana House has approved a bill that increases the tax on online sports betting operators. A portion of the additional revenue created will go to Division one athletic programs in the state, two million dollars to each. Piper Hutchinson with the Louisiana Illuminator says the state has nothing to lose by raising the only sports betting tax rate…

The Tush Push will remain a legal play in the NFL. Saints head coach and former Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore opposed the idea of getting rid of the play that Philadelphia has perfected in short yardage situations. The vote to ban the Tush Bush was 22-10, but at least 24 votes were needed to ban the play.

The NFL owners have approved a change to the onside kick rule, allowing teams to declare an onside kick anytime when trailing. Previously teams could only declare onside kicks when trailing in the fourth quarter.

The NFL will allow its players compete in flag football for the 2028 Olympics.

Two-time All-American pitcher Sydney Berzon has entered the transfer portal after winning 18 games this past season for LSU. Berzon has a career 2.02 ERA.

U-L Lafayette begins its quest for the Sun Belt baseball championship tonight against Marshall. Both teams finished the regular season 16-and-14 in conference play, with Marshall achieving a better overall record. Cajuns head coach Matt Deggs says his team will have its work cut out against the Thundering Herd.

The SEC baseball tournament got underway yesterday with Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida winning and Missouri, Kentucky and South Carolina going home.

 

Texas A&M and Mississippi State were postponed until this morning, because of severe weather. After that game, it’s Alabama versus Tennessee, Oklahoma against Georgia and Florida versus Ole Miss.

 

LSU plays in the SEC Tournament on Friday night. The Tigers will need to win twice to reach the SEC Tournament Championship game on Sunday. Coach Jay Johnson says they are going to Hoover, Alabama to win…

Coastal Carolina is the top seed after going 26-4 in league play and they are expected to win the tournament. Cajuns Coach Matt Deggs says his team has nothing to lose…

Organized team activities got underway for the Saints today and it’s a chance for the four quarterbacks on the roster to make their case to be the starting Q-B. Jake Haener is entering his third season, Spencer Rattler his second and Tyler Shough and Hunter Dekkers are both rookies. Coach Kellen Moore is eager to see what these guys can do, even if it’s just seven on seven practice sessions.

Since Shough was drafted by this coaching staff, he’s considered the front-runner to win the starting job.

WAFB’s Jacques Doucet is reporting LSU softball coach Beth Torina will remain the head coach, despite the Tigers disappointing performance in the Baton Rouge Regional. Southeastern Louisiana beat LSU twice to eliminate the Tigers before they could reach the championship round.

Conference baseball tournaments are underway. In the SEC Tournament….Alabama eliminated Missouri four to one. Mizzou goes 3-and-28 against conference opponents this year.

Fifth seeded Tulane defeated fourth seeded Florida Atlantic six to three. The Green Wave have won seven straight AAC baseball championship games since 2023 and they’ll play again on Thursday.

Louisiana Tech plays tomorrow night against Jacksonville State in the Conference USA Tournament. Bulldogs freshman pitcher Brooks Roberson was named the league’s freshman of the year. Roberson has a 4.70 ERA.

Doctor Carrie Castille has been named the new president at ULM. Castille wants to see athletics flourish at the Monroe school…

The battle to be the Saints starting quarterback in 2025 begins today as the Black and Gold will be on the practice field for OTAs. New Orleans will try to win with a young quarterback as Jake Haener is the only Q-B on the roster that has been in the NFL for two years. First year Saints head coach Kellen Moore says he was in Dallas when Dak Prescott led the Cowboys to 13 wins and an NFC East title as a rookie…

Since Tyler Shough was drafted by this coaching staff, he’s considered the front-runner to win the starting job. Spencer Rattler says he will not put too much pressure on himself to win the job and is looking forward to operating in Moore’s offense.

LSU left-handed pitcher Kade Anderson and right-handed pitcher Zac Cowan were named First-Team All-SEC by the league’s coaches. Four Tigers made the second team, Jared Jones, Anthony Eyanson, Daniel Dickinson, and Derek Curiel.

Curiel was NOT named SEC freshman of the year. That honor went to Texas pitcher Dylan Volantis, who is 4-0 with a 1.66 ERA, 12 saves and 64 strikeouts in 43.1 innings.

Cajuns outfielder Conor Higgs has been named to the All-Sun Belt first team. U-L’s Caleb Stelly is a second team selection. ULM outfielder Isaiah Walker made second team.

D-1 baseball-dot-com is reporting ULM’s top reliever, Josh Gregoire, is headed to the transfer portal.

Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson were the winning pitchers in the series for the Tigers. Jacob Rudner covers college baseball for Baseball America and Rudner says Anderson and Eyanson are a big reason why LSU is a contender to win it all…

Anderson who is second in the nation in strikeouts is a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist. The award goes to the best player in college baseball.

They are celebrating in Stonewall as North DeSoto won its second state championship in baseball on Saturday with a seven to four win over top-seeded Brusly. Sophomore Preston Eaves got the win as he threw four innings and survived a late rally by the Panthers in the seventh inning…

UNO rallied twice on Saturday to beat Northwestern State and win the Hammond bracket of the Southland Conference Tournament. The Privateers advance to play Houston Christian. Regular season champion Southeastern Louisiana will have to hope for an at-large bid.

The top-ranked LSU baseball team got back in the win column last night with an eight-to-one win over South Carolina. Junior first baseman Jared Jones hit two home runs, and Ethan Frey also homered. Kade Anderson struck out nine and allowed one earned run for his seventh win of the year.

Big upset in the NCAA Softball Tournament last night as Southeastern Louisiana scored four unanswered runs to beat LSU in the opening round of the Baton Rouge Regional. The win for Southeastern was just the second ever-for the Lady Lions in 26 meetings versus the Tigers and their first win since 2007.

LSU now has to win four straight games to win the Baton Rouge Regional. They will play the loser of today’s winner’s bracket game between Nebraska and Southeastern, which will begin at noon.

In the Hammond bracket of the Southland Conference Tournament, eighth-seeded UNO is 2-and-0 after beating Northwestern State three to two. Southeastern Louisiana avoided elimination by eliminating McNeese seven to four.

Southeastern will play Northwestern State at 1 PM today in a loser’s bracket game. The winner plays UNO and will need to beat the Privateers to advance to the Southland Tournament Championship series.

At the LHSAA state baseball tournament…Catholic High of Baton Rouge won its second consecutive state title with an eight-to-one win over Brother Martin.

Every other series will be decided today. Sam Houston came from behind to beat Live Oak four to three. ED White walked off Teurlings Catholic four to three. Brusly scored 14 runs in the second inning and shut out North DeSoto 15-0.

The other two championship games are Sterlington and Erath, which has been a very entertaining series, with Erath winning yesterday seven to six and Catholic High of New Iberia versus University High.

Number one ranked LSU baseball will look to bounce back tonight after blowing a late lead and losing to South Carolina six to five last night. The Tigers will send Kade Anderson to the mound tonight. Anderson is second in the nation in strikeouts with 124. South Carolina will send sophomore lefty Jake McCoy to the mound. He throws in the mid-90s, but has an ERA of 6.71.

Logan Forstyhe struck out a career-high 10 hitters for his first win of the season as Louisiana Tech topped New Mexico State 12-7. The Bulldogs will look for their fourth victory in a row at 6 PM.

ULM got a gem from Daniel Gonzalez last night as the Warhawks shutout South Alabama four to nothing. Game two is at 6 PM.

The Cajuns have lost four straight Sun Belt games and tonight they host Arkansas State again after losing to them three to nothing.

At the state baseball tournament in Sulphur….Erath and Catholic High of New Iberia have forced a third and deciding game in their championship series on the Division Three level. The Bobcats won a back and forth game between Sterlington, beating the Panthers seven to six. Brennan Broussard’s two-run triple in the sixth inning was the game winning hit.

And Catholic High of New Iberia defeated University High eight to one and the Panthers and Cubs will play for the Division three select state championship tomorrow at 11 AM.

Brusly also forced a third and deciding game by scoring 14 runs in the second inning for a 15 to nothing win over North Desoto in three runs. All 14 runs came after two outs.  Lead off hitter Aidan Washington had three hits and drove in three runs.

Tonight…Catholic High of Baton Rouge will try to win its second consecutive title as it battles Brother Martin at 5:30. Also at 5:30 .Live Oak looks for its first ever state championship when it faces Sam Houston.
