Today is the early signing period for national signing day, when high school recruits can sign with colleges.  Since Covid-19 caused the start of the season to be pushed back, this is the first year teams are still playing regular-season games during the week of the early signing period.  LSU coach Ed Orgeron says it’s a challenge to try and recruit, as well as prepare for the upcoming opponent.

One player who will not being joining LSU’s class is defensive end Keanu Koht who has flipped to Alabama and signed with the Crimson Tide after being committed to LSU since July.

The LSU basketball team will host UNO tonight at 8 pm.  The tigers will still be without head coach Will Wade who is quarantining due to a positive Covid-19 test.  LSU has won three straight games and are 4-1 on the season, while UNO sits at 1-6.

The Ragin Cajuns basketball team grabbed a 73-63 victory over the UNO Privateers for the team’s fifth straight win.  The team was led in scoring by guard Cedric Russell who had a game-high 20 points.  ULL will McNeese St on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball cruised to an 85-58 win over Jackson St.  Tech was led by a balanced offense, as eight players scored at least 7 points, including Kalob Ledoux, who poured in 17.  The Bulldogs played great defense as well, as they forced Jackson State to commit 24 turnovers.  The team is now 5-2.

The early signing period for college football is today and LSU is prepared to sign a top-5 class and is in the running for a lot of the top players in the country, including Terrebonne defensive tackle Maason Smith, the top-ranked player in Louisiana. While LSU has struggled on the field this year, Coach Ed Orgeron says recruits can see the success that players from last year’s team are having in the NFL.

Terrebonne Star Maason Smith is expected to announce where he’ll sign this afternoon. Alabama and Georgia are also interested in signing the five-star prospect.

The Ragin Cajuns are ranked 19th in the latest college football playoff rankings. U-L Lafayette looks to win a Sun Belt Championship on Saturday when they face 12th ranked Coastal Carolina.

The Ragin Cajuns basketball team beat U-N-O for a second time this season as U-L Lafayette dribbled past the Privateers 73-63. Cedric Russell had 20 points, while Theo Akwuba had 11 points, 14 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks.

Louisiana Tech won its 11th straight home game as the Bulldogs routed Jackson State 85-58. Kalbo Ledoux had 17 points, while Jace Bass had 16 points coming off the bench.

Texas A-and-M topped Southeastern Louisiana 69-52, while McNeese trounced Arlington Baptist 114 to 50.

Payton was also a guest on the NFL’s Huddle and Flow” podcast and said it’s possible Jameis Winston could be the Saints starting quarterback next season if Drew Brees retires. But Payton also said he believes Tayson Hill is ascending and getting better at the position after starting the last four games for the injured Brees. He says the team’s future quarterback is already in the building.

Tomorrow is a big day for the LSU football program as the early signing period begins. Based on the Tigers 19 verbal commitments, they have the fourth best-recruiting class according to 24-7 sports.

The LHSAA has set the schedule for the Prep Classic. The Class Two-A Championship will kick-off the four-day event at Northwestern State on Sunday December 27th. It will begin at 1 PM. Then it will be the Division One title game that night. Three games are scheduled for Monday, December 28th…Class One-A, Division 3, and Division two title games.

The Saints’ defense didn’t play up to standard either as they allowed the Eagles to run the ball at will.  New Orleans seemed to lose the battle at both lines of scrimmage which could have led to the loss.

Louisiana Tech has accepted an invitation to take on Georgia Southern in the 2020 New Orleans Bowl on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.  With a 5-4 record on the season and a 4-2 conference record, Tech will represent Conference USA in the Bowl Game.  This is the first time the Bulldogs have played in the New Orleans Bowl since winning it back in 2015.  Covid protocols will be in place and any tickets available may be limited.

This Saturday, LSU will host Ole Miss with a chance at finishing the year with a 5-5 record.  The Rebels are 4-4 under first-year head coach Lane Kiffin.  LSU head coach Ed Orgeron says he respects Kiffin’s knowledge of the game.  The two served on the same staff at USC and Tennessee.

LSU basketball coach Will Wade tested positive for Covid-19 and didn’t coach in the Tigers’ game on Monday against Sam Houston State.  LSU was also without all-conference forward Trendon Watford and forward Shareef O’Neal, who were out with injuries.  Despite the absences, the Tigers grabbed an 88-66 win over Sam Houston behind Javonte Smart’s 25 points.  Darius Days had a double-double with 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

The Saints defense gave up 240 yards rushing, while Quarterback Taysom Hill turned it over twice, including another lost fumble. It remains to be seen if injured starting quarterback Drew Brees can play this Sunday against the Chiefs.

The Pelicans won their preseason opener last night beating Miami 114 to 92. Zion Williamson had 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Brandon Ingram had 22 points, six rebounds and six assists. LSU basketball defeated Sam Houston State 88-66 as Javonte Smart had 25 points.

Two LSU players have received SEC Player of the Week honors for their performance in Saturday’s wild upset victory over Florida. Quarterback Max Johnson was named Offensive Player of the Week and Cade York received Special Teams Player of the Week honors. ULM’s season has come to an end as they finish the year 0-10. The Warhawks game on Thursday against Troy State has been canceled because of COVID issues within the ULM football team.

Saints Quarterback Taysom Hill threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns, but he also turned it over twice. Before Sunday’s game, the Saints had won their past eight starts without Drew Brees in the lineup. His status for this Sunday’s game against Kansas City remains uncertain.

Saints offensive tackle Terron Armstead is expected to play after missing the last two games after testing positive fo COVID-19. Armstead says he still can not taste or smell. Taysom Hill is expected to make his fourth straight start at quarterback as Drew Brees appears to be at least another week away from returning.

The LSU Tigers are on the verge of losing their third straight as they head into the Swamp on Saturday to take on the Florida Gators. For the second straight week, the Bayou Bengals are big underdogs. Linebacker Jabril Cox expects LSU will give good effort despite the team’s struggles this season…

In the 2A quarterfinals, Amite will take on Many in watch should be one of the top matchups of the night.

The Division 4 semifinals will take place tonight as Southern Lab will travel to Calvary Baptist and defending champ Ouachita Christian will be at Vermillion Catholic.
