The Saints practiced at the Cowboys home stadium today. The LHSAA Executive Committee has approved sites for the select football state championships. Division one and three title games will be played on December 3rd at Tulane’s Yulman Stadium, while Division Two and four will be played at Cajun Field in Lafayette on December 11th. The non-select title games will take place in the Caesars superdome on December 10th and 11th.

According to a report by Christian Clark of the Advocate and Times-Picayune, there’s a major rift between Pelicans’ executive vice president of basketball operations, David Griffin, and All-star Zion Williamson. There’s been tension since Zion’s rookie season as the team was cautious with Williamson after he injured his knee in the preseason.

The Saints are at New England on Sunday and instead of facing Tom Brady, New Orleans is preparing for rookie quarterback Mac Jones who has only thrown one touchdown pass, but he’s completing 74-percent of his passes and he’s not been intercepted. Coach O also says it’s an open competition at left tackle as the Tigers look for a fill-in for the injured Cam Wire.

ULM has scored just one touchdown in two games heading into Saturday’s Sun Belt opener against Troy. The Warhawks have started Rhett Rodriguez in the first two games at QB, but Chandler Rogers played in the second half in Saturday’s win against Jackson State. Rogers only completed one pass but helped the offense by running the ball. Coach Terry Bowden has not announced a starter for Troy

Three McNeese football players have been suspended after they were arrested for their role in a shooting near the campus on September sixth. Lathan Adams, Edwards Gilds and Travis Walker are facing numerous charges. They are freshmen defensive backs.

Through three games, LSU is averaging just three yards a carry and they have 257 rushing yards for the season. But Quarterback Max Johnson liked what he saw from the running game in the second half of Saturday’s game against Central Michigan as freshman Corey Kiner performed well…

LSU running back Ty Davis Price did not practice yesterday, but Coach Ed Orgeron said today he should play Saturday at Mississippi State. Orgeron also believes safety Jay Ward will suit up against the Bulldogs. He’s missed the last two 2.5 games since suffering an injury and is needed going up against Mike Leach’s air raid offense.

Mississippi State Quarterback Will Rogers is coming off a game where he completed 50 of 67 passes and he’s completed 75-percent of his passes for 1,083, eight touchdowns and one interception.

It didn’t look good when flames and black smoke were seen coming off the roof of the Superdome yesterday afternoon. But it turned out not to be a big deal. Officials say a pressure washer that was cleaning the roof of the dome started the fire and the blaze was under control a half-hour later. One worker suffered minor burns and the Saints are still scheduled to play in the dome on October 3rd.

Louisiana Tech opens Conference USA play by hosting North Texas. The Mean Green are one and two after losses to SMU and UAB.

This afternoon the roof of the Superdome caught on fire sending black smoke to the sky. Officials say the fire occurred on the exterior of the Caesars Superdome in the gutter tub of the roof. The fire was quickly extinguished and it’s believed a pressure washer being used to clean the roof caught on fire. The damage is still being assessed. The Saints are set to host the New York Giants in the Caesars Superdome on October 3rd.

Meanwhile, the players are off today and they’ll return to practice tomorrow in Fort Worth, Texas on the campus T-C-U. Defensive tackle Malcolm Roach says they will strive to be more consistent after suffering a loss at the hands of the Panthers last Sunday….

The Catholic Bears got a big game this week against Warren Easton, while Karr will face a talented Scotlandville squad.

Southeastern Louisiana is ranked 16th in both FCS polls. The Lions have this week off and begin Southland play on October 2nd at McNeese.

In his fifth collegiate start, LSU quarterback Max Johnson threw five touchdown passes in a 48-21 win over Central Michigan. It was the best performance of the season for the Fighting Tigers. But Coach Ed Orgeron still sees areas where his sophomore quarterback can improve…

Ragin Cajuns running back Montrell Johnson had four touchdowns in last week’s win over Ohio and he’s been named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the week. ULM’s Calum Sutherland is the Sun Belt Special Team’s player of the week after kicking four field goals in a 12-7 win over Jackson State.
