Grambling won its fourth straight last night as the Tigers took down Alcorn State 67-62. Grambling is now 7-and-3 in SWAC play. Southern fell to 4-and-4 after losing to Jackson State 57-53.

LSU will visit Mississippi State tomorrow night. The Tigers are 6-and-4 in league place, while the Bulldogs are 5-and-6.

One of the state’s top wide receivers will sign his national letter of intent today at one o’clock. Walker High wide receiver Brian Thomas has been weighing offers from LSU, Alabama, and Texas A-and-M. Thomas is six-foot-four, 185 pounds, rated as the 13th best wide receiver in the nation.

There will be a college football game this Saturday as McNeese kicks-off its spring season with a road game at Tarleton State, who plays in the Western Athletic Conference. Cowboys Coach Frank Wilson says the Texans were 11-and-1 in 2019 but lost a lot of starters from that team…

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in route to a 31-9 victory to win Super Bowl 55.  A trio of former LSU Tigers are now world champions with Devin White, Leonard Fournette, and Kevin Minter all getting the victory last night.  Devin White had 12 total tackles on the night and reeled in an interception late in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Bucs.  White breaks down his big play.

Louisiana Tech’s Kenneth Lofton Jr. earned his third straight Conference USA Freshman of the Week honor.  The forward became the seventh player in conference history to be awarded this honor for three consecutive weeks.  It also brought his season total to six, the most by a freshman since Tech joined the conference in 2013.  Lofton helped the Bulldogs split their two-game series against North Texas.  In the two games, he averaged 11.5 points and 12 rebounds.  Tech’s next game will be a two-game series against West Division leader UAB.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles announced that a 2019 LSU National Championship specialty license plate is available for purchase.  For fans looking to purchase the plate, it will cost around 100 dollars and OMV spokesperson Matthew Boudreaux says the easiest way is to buy it online.

Grambling took down Southern 72-69 on the hardwood on Saturday.  The Tigers were led by Tra’Michael Moton and Sarion McGee who had 22 and 21 points respectively. Grambling will now be on the road as they take on Alcorn State tonight at 7:30.

The struggles continue for the ULM men’s basketball team after a loss to UT-Arlington 64-29, making that the team’s 12th straight loss.  The team is scheduled to play the Ragin Cajuns on Thursday.

The Louisiana Tech men’s basketball team split their two-game series with North Texas.  The Bulldogs won the first game 68-63, but lost to North Texas on Saturday 57-55.  Tech is set to play UAB in a two-game series at home later in the week.

The Ragin Cajuns fell to Arkansas State on Saturday 83-77 as the team lost both games to the Red Wolves this past weekend.

The Tulane men’s basketball team lost to the Cincinnati Bearcats 64-61 yesterday.  The Green Wave’s next game will be on the road as they take on Tulsa.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are Super Bowl champs after a dominating 31-9 victory over Kansas City. Tom Brady winning a seventh Super Bowl ring gets most of the headlines, but the Bucs defense keeping Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs out of the end zone is also a major story. Former LSU star Devin White had a game-high 12 tackles, plus an interception. White says they wanted to blow them out….

New Orleans native Leonard Fournette also had a big game with 89 yards rushing and a touchdown. Kansas City was penalized eleven times and the refs threw two flags against ex-LSU star Tryann Mathieu.

Two Louisiana legends are entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame. New Orleans native Peyton Manning is elected into the Hall in his first year on the ballot, while former LSU lineman Alan Faneca gets in after coming up short five times. Faneca made nine Pro Bowls and six All-Pro teams in 13 NFL seasons after he was drafted in the first round by the Steelers in 1998.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees has renegotiated his contract in another sign that a retirement announcement is looming. Brees is now set to make the veteran league minimum in 2021 a move that would save the Saints about 11-million dollars against the salary cap.

And the Saints are reportedly facing another penalty from the NFL for not following COVID-19 protocols. The league is looking into how Alvin Kamara got COVID. He reportedly got it from an interaction at the Saints facility with a person not employed by the team, who ended up testing positive for the virus as well.

LSU’s basketball game against Florida tomorrow has been postponed due to COVID-19 cases with the Gators program. A make-up date has not been determined at this time so the Tigers next scheduled game is Wednesday when they host Mississippi State.

Tonight, Louisiana Tech begins a two-game series against defending Conference USA regular-season champion North Texas at the Super Pit. U-N-T has won four in a row and has not lost at home this season. While North Texas is a good opponent, Tech Coach Eric Konkol says his team will treat it like any other matchup….

Tomorrow’s LSU-Florida men’s basketball game at the Maravich Center has been called off because of positive COVID-19 cases in the Gators’ program. It’s the second time the Tigers have had an SEC game postponed because of COVID issues. They have yet to reschedule the Missouri game and there’s no word on when they’ll play Florida for a second time this season.

There are some college basketball games tonight, the Ragin Cajuns are seeking a sixth straight win when they visit Arkansas State tonight at 6 PM. ULM is at U-T Arlington looking to snap an eight-game losing streak.

Louisiana Tech is at North Texas. The Mean Green have won five straight conference games and they are 5-and-1 in league play. Tech is seven and three.

The Pelicans who have lost three in a row on the road are at Indiana tonight. The Pacers defeated New Orleans by two points at the Smoothie King Center a month ago. Tip-off is at 6 PM.

Saints Punter Thomas Morstead tells Boot Krewe Media’s Sports Overtime Podcast that he’s not retiring after a down season for him in 2020. Morestead averaged 43-yards a punt last season, the lowest of his career.

After playing one of their best games of the season on Wednesday night in a win over the Suns, the Pelicans are at Indiana tonight to play the Pacers. New Orleans is just three and seven on the road this year. Indiana has lost three of its last four. Tip time is at 6 PM.

Big game for Zion Williamson last night as the Pelicans defeated Phoenix 123 to 101. Williamson had 28 points on 12 of 14 shooting, seven rebounds, and six assists as New Orleans ended a five-game homestand by winning three of the five games. Lonzo Ball also had a nice game too, 18 points, and six rebounds in 24 minutes, and made four of seven from three-point land. Coach Stan Van Gundy says it was their best game of the year…

For the second time this season, the LSU men’s hoops team got thumped by Alabama. The Crimson Tide topped the Tigers 78-60.

Saints Coach Sean Payton has said he expects Quarterback Drew Brees will make an announcement within the next week on whether he’ll return for the 2021 season. Today on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, Saints linebacker Demario Davis said he sure hopes Brees returns for a 21st season and he would feel better knowing that Brees is coming back.

Sunday is Super Bowl 55 as former LSU standout Tyrann Mathieu makes his second straight trip to the Super Bowl with the Chiefs. He was drafted by Arizona in 2013. Tampa Bay head coach Bruce Arians was the head coach of the Cardinals at the time and said Mathieu remains his favorite draft choice of all time. Mathieu is taken back by those words

For the second time this season, Alabama handed it to LSU on the basketball court as the tenth-ranked Crimson Tide trounced the Tigers 78-60 at Coleman Coliseum.

Tulane also lost last night, falling to Wichita State 75-67.

But the Pelicans cooled off the Suns with a 123 to 101 win in the Smoothie King Center. Zion Williamson had 28 points, Brandon Ingram had 23, and Lonzo Ball added 18 points.

There are six former LSU Tigers on the rosters of the two Super Bowl teams, which leads all other colleges. There are also two players who attended St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, Tampa Bay running back Leonard Fournette and Kansas City safety Tyrann Mathieu. The Honey Badger says St. Aug helped shape him into the person he is today

LSU football signed two more players yesterday to secure a top five recruiting class. One of those players is St. James defensive end Savion Jones, the other is an offensive guard from Florida.

Louisiana Tech added one more player. A Junior college transfer offensive lineman from Mississippi by the name of Demarcus Gordon.

The Ragin Cajuns added 12 more players yesterday to their 2021 signing class as U-L Lafayette finished with a top-two recruiting class in the Sun Belt for a third-straight year. The class consists of two three-star running backs from Louisiana, Montrell Johnson from De La Salle and Kendrell Williams from Carencro. While Williams has a natural ability to run the ball, Coach Billy Napier says it’s Kendrell’s character that stood out the most…

The LSU men’s basketball team will face the tenth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on the road in Tuscaloosa tonight. The Tigers lost by 30 points to Bama a few weeks back as they gave up 105 points and allowed Alabama to hit an SEC-record 23 three-pointers. Tigers Coach Will Wade says they need to be better on transition defense.

LSU enters the game with a 6-and-3 SEC record, tied for second place with Florida. Alabama is 9-and-0. Tip-off is at 6 PM.

At 8:30 the Pelicans will host Phoenix as New Orleans tries to end a five-game homestand with a winning record. They won the first two games of the homestand and they’ve lost the last two.

LSU has officially introduced its new defensive football coaches. Daronte Jones, Blake Baker, and Andre Carter were hired as defensive coordinator, linebackers coach, and defensive line coach respectively. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says a big reason why these guys got the job was their ability to relate to the players.

Oregon says the Tigers plan to run a four-three defense as he believes their personnel is more suited for a four-three.

Today, LSU received a signed national letter of intent from four-star defensive end Saivion Jones out of St. James. He’s rated as the tenth best weakside defensive end according to 24-7 sports.
