Coach Jay Johnson’s team was swept last weekend in Auburn, while Bama has lost its last two weekend series, falling to Auburn and Mississippi State.

After losing a series at U-L-M last weekend, the Ragin Cajuns are back on the road taking on Old Dominion. The Monarchs are 7-8 in the Sun Belt, while the Cajuns are 8-7.

ULM is now 5-10 in league play as they’ve won three in row, but they have a tough series at Troy. The Trojans are 10-5.

If one New Orleans-area lawmaker has his way, there will be no more afternoon games at LSU in September.

ESPN says Lee Corso will do one more College Gameday on August 30th and then retire. The 89-year-old Corso has been on College Gameday for nearly four decades and is an icon for wearing the headgear of mascots. He’s made 430 mascot headgear picks, selecting LSU 25 times, third most behind Ohio State and Alabama.

The ninth ranked LSU baseball team opens a three-game series against 15th ranked Alabama. The Tigers are 10-5 in the SEC and the Crimson Tide is 8-and-7 in league play. LSU Coach Jay Johnson says Bama has one of the best power hitters in the country in Justin Lebron.

Louisiana Tech begins a three-game series against Liberty tonight. The Bulldogs are  a half game out of first place in Conference USA.

Two of the top teams in the Southland meet in Hammond tonight as Southeastern hosts UTRGV.  The Lions team ERA is 3.33, fourth best in the nation.

 

The Pelicans will introduce Joe Dumars as its new executive vice president of basketball operations at a press conference on Tuesday. Host of the Locked on Pelicans podcast, Jake Madison, expects Dumars will retain Willie Green as the head coach, but former number one overall pick Zion Williamson could be traded because of his inability to stay healthy.

ESPN announced today that Lee Corso will make his final appearance on College Gameday on August 30th. Corso will turn 90-years-old in August and he’s been with ESPN since 1987. College Gameday personality helped make the show popular with his headgear picks at the end of every show. With LSU opening the season at Clemson, a potential Top 10 matchup, there’s a possibility Gameday will be at Clemson.

Louisiana Tech begins a nine-game homestand tonight by hosting Liberty. The Bulldogs are 8-and-3 in league play, a half game back of Western Kentucky. The Flames are 5-and-7 in league play.

In the Sun Belt, the Ragin Cajuns are at Old Dominion, while ULM looks for its fourth straight win tonight and the Warhawks are at Troy. The Trojans are 10-5 in the Sun Belt.

Dumars was the President of Basketball Operations in Detroit when the Pistons won an NBA title in 2004. But a lot of his draft picks flopped, his free agent signings fizzled and some of his trades did not pan out. Tonight at 8:00 the top-seeded LSU gymnastics team competes in the semifinals of the NCAA Championships. There are eight teams left, and LSU will participate in the semifinal number two against Utah, UCLA and Michigan State. If LSU can finish in the top two, they will advance to Saturday’s championship meet.

LSU pitcher Gavin Guidry will not pitch this season as he’ll undergo back surgery on Friday. The Lake Charles native hurt his back in February and has not thrown a single inning this year. Coach Jay Johnson says treatments and medicine did not work…

LSU women’s basketball has signed Amiya Joyner out of the transfer portal. In three seasons at East Carolina. The six-foot-two senior forward averaged 13 points and ten rebounds a game.

And the Pelicans have made it official, Louisiana native Joe Dumars is the team’s new executive vice president of basketball operations.

 

The ninth ranked LSU baseball team ended McNeese’s national leading 12-game winning streak last night with a 10 to three victory. Jared Jones went three for three with a home run and Ethan Frey also had three hits and an RBI double. After the game, Coach Jay Johnson announced junior right-handed pitcher Gavin Guidry will not pitch this season, because of a back injury that never responded to treatment…

The good news for LSU, young pitchers are starting to step up. Freshman Mavrick Rizy pitched two-and-two-thirds innings last night and struck out six hit, allowing one hit and no runs.

ULM won its third straight as the Warhawks defeated Louisiana Tech eight to three. Nicholls knocked off Jackson State 14 to 6. Tough loss for Southeastern Louisiana as the Lions saw a six-game winning streak come to an end with an eight to seven loss to Southern Mills. The Golden Eagles scored four runs in the ninth to win. Northwestern State blanked LSU Alexandria three to nothing.

The ninth-ranked LSU baseball team ended McNeese’s nation-leading 12-game winning streak last night with a ten-to-three victory. Jared Jones busted out of a mini-slump by hitting his 12th home run. Jones had three hits and drove in three runs. After the game Jay Johnson announced pitcher Gavin Guidry will undergo season ending back surgery.

ULM won its third straight beating Louisiana Tech eight to three. The Warhawks scored five runs in the third inning to take control of the game. 23rd-ranked Southern Miss scored four runs in the ninth inning to beat Southeastern Louisiana eight to seven. Northwestern State blanked L-S-U Alexandria three-zip. And Mississippi State clobbered Southern 16 to 2.

The LSU women’s basketball team has signed six-foot-two Amiya Joyner out of the transfer portal. Joyner averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds a game at East Carolina last season. She has one year of eligibility left.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly has made his first public comments since the tragic death of former Tigers receiver Kyren Lacy. Kelly said Lacy was a bright star and loved being a Tiger. Lacy caught 112 passes and had 16 touchdowns during his three-year LSU career. He died on Saturday in an apparent suicide.

Meanwhile, the LSU football team is finishing up spring practice this week. Oklahoma transfer Nic Anderson was slowed by an injury earlier in the spring, but Kelly says he’s getting healthy, and the coach is excited about his potential…

McNeese is currently 26-and-5 – 11-and-4 in the Southland Conference – and is riding a 12-game winning streak — the longest current winning streak in the nation. Head Coach Justin Hill says he’s astounded by his team’s success.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly spoke today about the life of Kyren Lacy, who died in an apparent suicide on Saturday night in Houston. Lacy was one of Kelly’s first signees out of the transfer portal after he arrived in Baton Rouge in November of 2021 and he chooses not to dwell on the tragic ending to Lacy’s life, instead remember his happy times…

McNeese is 27-and-5 overall, and coming off a sweep over Incarnate Word. First pitch is at 6:30.

Louisiana Tech is at ULM. Both teams are playing good baseball. The Warhawks have won four of their last five. Tech has won five straight series. Southeastern hosts Southern Miss and Nicholls is at Jackson State.

Less than 24 hours after wrapping up a 21-and-61 campaign, the Pelicans  fired David Griffin as executive director of basketball operations. Griffin had served in that role for six years. Jake Madison, the host of the Locked On Pelicans podcast, says this move was not unexpected.

In the WNBA draft…former LSU rebounding machine Aneesah Morrow was selected with the seventh overall pick by the Connecticut Sun. Former LSU Lady Tiger Hailey Van Lith was drafted by Chicago and she will team up once again with Angel Reese.

In his hometown of Thibodaux, there is mourning as former LSU star wide receiver Kyren Lacy is remembered. Authorities in the Houston area say Lacy took his own life on Saturday night during a police chase. He became an All-SEC performer at LSU and Lacy’s former high school football coach at Thibodaux High, Chris Dugas (Doo-gah) says Lacy played football and basketball and helped Thibodaux win a state championship in boys basketball in 2019…

Lacy concentrated on basketball in his first couple of years at Thibodaux, but Dugas helped convince him that he could be a standout wide receiver, with his six-foot-two size and his speed and ability to catch passes. He had a sensational senior season with 54 catches for 864 yards and 18 touchdowns.

David Griffin is out as the Pelicans’ executive director of basketball operations. Owner Gayle Benson announced the move this morning after the Pels suffered through an injury plagued season that saw them finish with the second worst winning percentage in franchise history. Head Coach Willie Green is safe – for now. Jake Madison, the host of the Locked On Pelicans podcast, says the decision to keep or fire Green may ultimately be in the hands of whoever Griffin’s successor is.

Shreveport native and McNeese basketball legend Joe Dumars has reportedly emerged as the front-runner to replace Griffin. Dumars is currently heading NBA basketball ops. Following Sunday’s loss to Oklahoma City, Green appreciated the positive attitude the players kept throughout the season….

Griffin had that role for the last six seasons and that included two playoff appearances. But this year the team finished with a 21-and-61 record. Head Coach Willie Green says this was a season unlike any that he had been a part of, both as a player and a coach…

Tough weekend for the LSU baseball team as they were swept by Auburn for the first time since 1988.

Former LSU football star Kyren Lacy is dead at the age of 24. Authorities in Houston say the Thibodaux native fatally shot himself during a police chase on Saturday night. Harris County Sheriff deputies were looking for Lacy after he fired a gun into the ground during a verbal argument with a female relative. Lacy was preparing for the NFL draft, but a grand jury was also set to meet today to hear evidence in a case where he was charged with negligent homicide for a fatal crash that State Police say he caused in Lafourche Parish in December.

The Saints offseason conditioning program begins today, and quarterback Derek Carr could reportedly miss the season with a shoulder injury. Ross Jackson, host of the Locked on Saints podcast, says Carr’s injury gives New Orleans a chance to rebuild…
