The USA Today Baseball Coaches poll ranks LSU as the number one team in the country. The Tigers are ranked ahead of UCLA, Texas, Georgia Tech and Arkansas. There are nine SEC teams ranked in the Top 25.

The Sugar Bowl will not be played on New Year’s Day weekend next college football season. That’s because the Sugar Bowl will be a College Football Playoff semifinal game and will be played on Friday, January 15th. The national title game will be on January 26th.

Today is the start of college football’s late signing period. Former Archbishop Shaw standout Jackson Williams is expected to sign at LSU. He’s a three-star safety. LSU is also adding JUCO offensive lineman Adrian Lamb, who selected the Tigers over Bama and Georgia.

And the son of former LSU star Chad Jones, Chad Jones Junior, will sign at Southern today. He was a star linebacker at St. Aug. Former Ouachita Parish two-way star Wydell Clark is also signing with Southern.

The Cajuns men’s basketball team is at James Madison tonight. During the non-conference, U-L Lafayette lost ten in a row, but lately the Cajuns have been playing better, winners of three of their last four. Coach Quannas White says his players never stopped believing….

LSU football is adding another offensive lineman to its 2026 roster. Offensive tackle Adrian Lamb has committed to the Tigers. The six-foot-six, 295 pound lineman chose LSU over Alabama, Auburn and South Carolina. He last played at Georgia Military Academy so he’s a junior college transfer.

Senior Zach Yorke, who transferred from Grand Canyon University, is expected to start at first base for the Tigers. Yorke is known for being a power hitter, having hit .328 with over 30 home runs in three seasons with the Antelopes, but he also takes pride in playing exceptional defense.

The McNeese Cowboys now trail Stephen F Austin by two games for first place in the Southland Conference after losing to the Lumberjacks 67 to 60 last night. McNeese led by one point late in the second half, but failed to make a field goal in the final 3:47. The loss snapped the Pokes four game winning streak.

After losing five in a row, Nicholls has won two straight as the Colonels held on to beat Northwestern State 61 to 58 last night. It was career win number 50 for 30-year-old head coach Tevon Saddler.

In other Southland action….Lamar beat Southeastern Louisiana 73 to 54. UNO outscored East Texas A-and-M 94 to 85.

In the SWAC….Grambling easily defeated Alcorn State 74 to 50, while Southern beat Jackson State 96 to 91 in overtime. The Jaguars had a 21 point lead in the second half and nearly suffered a disastrous loss.

In the NBA…the Pelicans were up by 22 points yesterday but lost to Charlottle 102 to 95.

The Saints announce that one of their nine home games in the 2026 season will be played in Paris, France. It will be the first NFL regular-season game in Paris and one of nine international games for the NFL during the 2026 campaign.  The opponent has not been officially announced, but it’s reportedly the Browns, and the game will be played on October 26th.

LSU says an inquiry by the College Sports Commission related to athletes not reporting NIL deals has been resolved with no disciplinary action. LSU was one of several schools to receive CSC inquiry letters regarding unreported deals. The LSU football program was reportedly not involved. NCAA rules require schools to report all NIL deals to the C-S-C.

LSU women’s basketball moved up one spot to number five in the latest AP Top 25 poll. Texas is number four and the Tigers will be in Austin on Thursday.

McNeese played a poor first half and could not recover, and lost to Stephen F Austin 67-60 in the battle for first place in the Southland. The first-place Lumberjacks now have a two-game lead over the Cowboys.

Nicholls held on for a 61-58 win over Northwestern State. Lamar trounced Southeastern 73-54.

Grambling crushed Alcorn State 74-50, and Southern won in overtime over Jackson State 96-91.

The Pelicans blew a 22-point lead and were stung by the Hornets in Charlotte, 102 to 95.

LSU baseball returns several starters from last year’s national title team, plus they’ve added talented tansfers. First baseman Zach Yorke is from Grand Canyon and he’s dreamed of playing in the College World Series…

The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team put on a show on Sunday as the Lady Tigers dominated 24th-ranked Alabama 103-63. Four players scored in double figures as LSU shot 56-percent from the field. The Lady Tigers also had 11 blocked shots and forced 17 turnovers that led to 24 points. Head Coach Kim Mulkey…

LSU has its biggest road test of the season on Thursday night as the Lady Tigers visit fourth ranked Texas.

The Saints announce they will play in the first ever NFL regular season game in France. Saints Owner Gayle Benson says the game in Paris will be significant as there is a strong cultural connection between Louisiana and France that dates back to the 17th century. WWL Radio’s Mike Detilllier…

There is a big college basketball game in Nacogdoches, Texas tonight as McNeese visits Stephen F Austin. The Lumberjacks have a one game lead over the Cowboys for first place in the Southland. The Pokes beat S-F-A by two points in Lake Charles on January 5th.

LSU’s new starting third baseman Trent Caraway has dreams of playing in the Major Leagues, but he’s excited for the opportunity to play in the Purple and Gold. Caraway is expected to hit for a high average and double-digit home runs for the Tigers. Last season at Oregon State he hit .267 with 12 home runs, half of those home runs came in the NCAA Tournament. Caraway says he needed another year in college before going pro….

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was named the MVP of the Senior Bowl as he led the American team on two touchdown drives.

A French outlet is reporting the Saints will play the Browns in the first NFL game in Paris, France on October 25th.

 

The ULM men’s basketball team battled hard but came up short in winning its first Sun Belt game yesterday as the Warhawks lost to Coastal Carolina 83 to 79. U-L-M is now 3-20 on the season.

The two best teams in the Southland play each other tonight as McNeese visits Stephen F Austin. The Cowboys beat the Lumberjacks by two points in Lake Charles earlier this season.

LSU’s new starting third baseman, Trent Caraway, has already undergone a swing change. When Caraway arrived at LSU, he decided to change his swing. He says he’s calmer at the plate, eliminating a toe step he had his whole life…

No football this weekend, but there is plenty of college hoops. The LSU Tigers will try to snap its three-game losing streak when they visit South Carolina at noon on Saturday. This game has been moved up from its original five o’ clock tip time, because of a snowstorm threatening the east coast.

Louisiana Tech is also on the road as they play Sam Houston at 9 PM on Saturday night in a game that will be televised by ESPN 2. The Bearkcats have won five in a row.

ULM has lost 12 straight after losing by three points to Georgia Southern on Friday. The Warhawks will try again on Saturday at 2 PM against Coastal Carolina.

The Ragin Cajuns host Georgia Southern at 3 PM.

McNeese looks for its fourth straight win as the Cowboys visit rival Lamar.

The Lady Techsters have won seven in a row and they host Jacksonville State on Saturday at 2 PM. The sixth ranked LSU women’s basketball team has won six in a row and they will host 24th ranked Alabama on Sunday at 11 AM.

 

We are getting closer to another college baseball season. LSU baseball had one of the best pitching staffs in the country last season. Not only did the Tigers have great starters in Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson, but they also had several reliable relievers. LSU pitching coach Nate Yeskie says junior left-handed pitcher Santiago Garcia, a transfer from Oregon, is going to be a key arm out of the bullpen this year.

Louisiana Tech baseball has been picked to finish second in Conference USA. Dallas Baptist is the preseason favorite than it’s the Bulldogs, followed by Kennesaw State, Jacksonville State and Western Kentucky. Bulldogs closer Blake Hooks has been named to the Conference USA preseason All-Conference team.

The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team won its sixth straight last night, beating Arkansas 92-70. Six players scored in double figures. Flau’jae Johnson had 17 points.

The Lady Techsters won their seventh straight, 72-44 over Kennesaw State. McNeese won its 10th straight as they knocked off Stephen F Austin in O-T 70 to 64. Southern stayed in a first place tie in the SWAC by beating Jackson State 67-43.

The Ragin Cajuns men’s team beat Georgia State 82-72.

The college baseball season is two weeks away and LSU pitching coach Nate Yeskie says Gavin Guidry is ready after missing last season with a back injury…

The Senior Bowl is Saturday and former LSU Tiger receiver Chris Hilton will compete in his fourth all-star game. Hilton only caught ten passes in his senior season, so he’s trying hard to impress NFL scouts…

The LSU men’s basketball team dropped to 1-7 in the SEC last night as they fell behind by 27 points in the first half to Mississippi State and ended up losing to the Bulldogs 80 to 66. It’s the second time this year, LSU was non-competitive in the first half against one of the weaker teams in the SEC.

Louisiana Tech is playing better as the Bulldogs defeated UTEP 69 to 59 last night for their second straight win in Conference USA play. Tech is at Sam Houston Saturday.

The sixth ranked LSU women’s basketball team goes after its sixth straight win tonight as they host Arkansas at 7 PM. Sophomore guard Jada Richard is one of the team’s leading scorers in SEC play. Coach Kim Mulkey…

Saints veteran linebacker Demario Davis will be a free agent this offseason, and it sounds like he is open to testing the market. Davis appeared on Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams’ show on FanDuel TV and this is what he had to say on potentially returning to New Orleans for his 15th season in the NFL.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis says they want Davis back next season. Meanwhile, the Saints scouting department is in Mobile scouting the Senior Bowl. Assistant General Manager Jeff Ireland hopes the Black and Gold are this year’s version of the New England Patriots next year…

Veteran Saints linebacker Demario Davis’ contract expires in March and in an interview with FanDuel’s Kay Adams, the 37-year-old seemed intrigued with the possibility of playing for another team next season….

Davis had a career-high in tackles this past season. General Manager Mickey Loomis told reporters at the Senior Bowl in Mobile that they want Davis back.

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin and running backs coach Kevin Smith were in the 3-3-7 yesterday visiting high schools. Their first stop was Cecilia High School, likely checking in with four-star athlete Braylon Calais. Kiffin and Smith also stopped at Acadiana High School, Westgate and Albert Simien at Sam Houston.

The sixth-ranked LSU women’s basketball team is currently riding a five-game winning streak, and the Lady Tigers look to make it six straight tonight against Arkansas at 7 p.m. Head Coach Kim Mulkey says this is one of the closest teams she’s ever had in her time in Baton Rouge.

Brutal defeat for the LSU men’s basketball team last night as the Tigers fell behind by 27 points in the first half and never challenged the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a humiliating 80-66 loss.

Louisiana Tech won its first game on the road as the Bulldogs defeated UTEP 69-59. Tech has won four of its last five.

LSU’s passing game coordinator during its magical 2019 national championship season is now a head coach in the NFL. Joe Brady, who has been the offensive coordinator in Buffalo, has been promoted to head coach. The 36-year-old Brady replaces Sean McDermott who was fired after nine season as the head coach in Buffalo.

In college basketball last night, Stephen F Austin defeated Northwestern State 69-67, UNO upended Nicholls 80 to 62, McNeese started a three-game road trip by beating Southeastern Louisiana 76 to 66.

Tonight, LSU begins a soft part of its schedule by hosting Mississippi State, Tulane hosts South Florida and Louisiana Tech is at UTEP.

The Pelicans two-game winning streak ended last night with a 104-95 loss to Oklahoma City.

 

Former Jennings High School head football coach Rusty Phelps passed away on Friday after suffering a stroke. Phelps coached for a total of 35 years, with 28 at Jennings and he won over 200 games. Former Eunice football coach Paul Trosclair says Phelps was one of the good guys.

Visitation for Coach Phelps is tonight and his funeral is tomorrow in Jennings.

Former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is at the Senior Bowl looking to rebuild his draft stock. Nussmeier didn’t get to finish his college career off on a high note at LSU, but says he’s looking forward to the Lane Kiffin era in Baton Rouge.
