The LSU baseball team is scheduled to host Northwestern State tonight for its final non-conference game of the year. The forecast does not look good as over an inch of rain could fall in Baton Rouge today. Coach Paul Mainieri says they will try hard to make sure this game is played.

If the Tigers win tonight, they will go undefeated in mid-week games this season.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.

The Ragin Cajuns were supposed to play at UNO against the Privateers tonight but that game has been postponed due to weather.

The offseason has begun for the Pelicans who finished the 2020-21 season with a 31-41 record.  New Orleans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin is not happy they didn’t make the playoffs.

The Louisiana Senate has unanimously approved a bill that would allow college athletes to profit off of their name, image, and likeness. The bill will now go to the house for full approval. Several other states like Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi have passed a similar law.

LSU outfielder Gavin Dugas was named Co- SEC player of the week for his performance this weekend.  Dugas batted .429 against Alabama with a double, two homeruns, eight RBI’s and 5 runs scored.  He leads all Tigers with 57 RBI’s.

The Saints have signed three players after they attended the team’s rookie mini-camp. Including former Purdue nose tackle Lorenzo Neal who is the son of former Saints fullback Lorenzo Neal Senior.

In a game that LSU needed to win to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive, the Fighting Tigers jumped out to a 5-to-nothing lead and went on to beat Alabama 13-5 to win the series over the Crimson Tide, who is also on the bubble to make a Regional. Five Tigers had multiple hits and four home runs were hit, including the first two of the season from center fielder Giovanni DiGiacomo.

LSU left fielder Gavin Dugas was named SEC Co-player of the Week. He hit two home runs over the weekend. Louisiana Tech third baseman Hunter Wells was named the Conference USA’s Co-Hitter of the Week as he was 10-for-18 at the plate with one home run, seven runs scored and 5 RBI.

The Pelicans finished out the season last night with a 110 to 98 defeat to the Lakers. They ended the year on a four-game losing streak and with many of their starters watching from the bench because of injuries, including Zion Williamson, who after two seasons in the NBA is still waiting to play in his first playoff game…

LSU softball is a number seven national seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host a Regional this weekend that will also feature McNeese, U-L Lafayette and George Washington. The Tigers are 32-19 on the season, but they have an R-P-I of six. Meanwhile, the Cajuns and Cowgirls won their respective conference tournaments. The action gets underway Friday at Tiger Park.

In a game that LSU needed to win to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive, the Tigers beat Alabama 13-5 to win the series over the Crimson Tide.  On Senior Day, senior right-hander Ma’Khail Hilliard allowed three runs in five innings and struck out seven to improve his record to 5-0. Hilliard says he entered the game determined to get a win.

LSU will host Northwestern State tomorrow night as they look to go undefeated in mid-week games this season.

The Ragin Cajuns baseball team will take on Troy in the final weekend series of the regular season.  The Cajuns are one game back of U-T-A for first place in the Sun Belt West Division.

Louisiana Tech is champions of the Conference USA West division after beating UTSA 17-7 in seven innings coupled with Florida Atlantic defeating Southern Miss.  Bulldogs coach Lane Burroughs says it’s quite an accomplishment when you consider a tornado destroyed their stadium over two years ago, leaving them without a place to play or practice…

The LSU softball team is a seven national seed and will host U-L Lafayette and McNeese in a regional this weekend at Tiger Park.

In football news, Southeastern Louisiana quarterback Cole Kelley has won the Walter Payton Award as the best player in the FCS.  Kelley led the nation with 2,662 yards and 27 total touchdowns.  Kelley will return to Hammond for the fall 2021 season.

The LSU baseball team got a big win yesterday as they defeated Alabama 13 to 5 to clinch the series over the Crimson Tide and to keep their hopes alive of receiving an NCAA Tournament bid. In softball, LSU is a seven national seed and will host U-L Lafayette and McNeese in a regional this weekend at Tiger Park. The Tigers will face the Cowgirls on Friday afternoon and the Lady Cajuns will meet George Washington at 5:30.

The Pelicans season ended yesterday with a loss to the Lakers 110 to 98. New Orleans finishes with a record 31 and 41.

The NCAA has named Louisiana Tech as one 20 possible programs to host an NCAA Regional. 16 teams will host regional round games during the first weekend in June and those sites will be announced on May 30th. Tonight, Tech begins a four-game series against UTSA.

The Ragin Cajuns begin a three-game series versus Texas-Arlington tonight, while ULM is at 6th ranked TCU.

Baton Rouge high school basketball sensation, LSU legend and WNBA superstar Seimone Augustus has retired at the age of 37. Augustus received national attention when she was in the sixth grade and the voice of the Lady Tigers Patrick Wright says Augustus became a household name during an All-American career at LSU

Augustus led LSU to a 121-19 record from 2002 to 2006, including three straight final four appearances. She went on to win four WNBA titles.

Tickfaw native Kim Mulkey is the only person in college basketball history to win a national championship as a head coach, assistant coach, and as a player. The former Lady Techster and current LSU head coach will be enshrined into the Naismith Hall of Fame on Saturday.

LSU baseball hosts Alabama in its final home weekend series of the year. The Tigers need a strong finish in order to receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament.  2011 was the last time LSU did not make the NCAA tournament and the projected NCAA Regionals does not show the Tigers playing beyond the SEC Tournament. The Saints 2021 schedule came out this week and the Black and Gold’s first home game is September 12th against Green Bay. A team spokesperson says they plan on playing their games this season in front of a full stadium.  The Saints have no intention of requiring that fans provide any confirmation of a Covid vaccination to attend games, but vaccines are encouraged.

LSU legend Seimone Augustus has retired and she’ll serve as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Sparks. The 37-year-old Baton Rouge native won four W-N-B-A titles after leading the Lady Tigers to three Final Four appearances.

Current LSU women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey will be sworn into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame on Saturday. Michael Jordan will present the Tickfaw native into the Hall.

St. Thomas More quarterback and LSU commit Walker Howard has been selected as the Gatorade Player of the Year for Louisiana.  Howard led the Cougars to the division II state championship after throwing for 3,430 yards and 39 touchdowns.

Also, 2021 LSU running back signee Corey Kiner captured Ohio’s Gatorade Player of the Year.  He rushed for 1,886 yards and 35 touchdowns in 2020.

Baseball America has Louisiana Tech hosting a Regional. The Bulldogs will host U-T-S-A for a four-game series starting tonight. The Ragin Cajuns are chasing U-T-A for first place in the Sun Belt West. U-L Lafayette is two games back and they begin a series with the Mavericks tonight in Arlington. ULM is at sixth-ranked T-C-U.

The Saints have reportedly signed former Ragin Cajun safety Duece Wallace. Wallace was a team captain for U-L Lafayette in 2019, the last season he played and had 52 tackles in his career and one interception. He will participate in the Saints rookie minicamp this weekend.

The Pelicans were eliminated from playoff contention last night as they were handed a 125-107 loss to the Mavericks in Dallas. New Orleans played without four of its starters because of injuries. A big weekend is coming up for the LSU baseball team. The Tigers will host Alabama for a three-game series. Both teams are fighting to get an invitation to the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Bayou Bengals are 9-15 in league play, but they have an RPI of 20 according to NCAA.com. Alabama is 11-and-12 in league play and have an RPI of 29.

14th ranked Louisiana Tech begins a four-game Conference USA series with U-T-S-A on Friday. Tech is 33-and-13 overall and they have an RPI of 25. Even though Drew Brees is retired, the Saints will still play five primetime games during their 2021 season. The Black and Gold will visit Seattle for a Monday night game in late October, they will host Buffalo on Thanksgiving night, host Dallas the following Thursday, and visit Tampa Bay for a Sunday night game the week before Christmas and then host Miami for a Monday night game two days after Christmas. New Orleans will kick off the season by hosting Green Bay for a late Sunday afternoon game.
