The Cajuns won their sixth straight football game last night, but it was not easy as U-L Lafayette held off Arkansas State 28-27. The Red Wolves led by six late in the third quarter, but Cajuns running back Chris Smith ran 74 yards for a touchdown and the following PAT was the winning score. A couple of starting offensive linemen have returned to practice. Terron Armstead and Erik McCoy were limited yesterday, but Deonte Harris and Taysom Hill did not practice. Harris has a hamstring injury and Hill is trying to recover from a concussion.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron says wide receiver Deion Smith and starting right guard Chasen Hines are doubtful for Saturday’s game against 12th ranked Ole Miss. Marlon Martinez is expected to start if Hines can’t go. Kick-off is at 2:30.

The Ragin Cajuns rushed for 424 yards last night and they needed every one of those yards as U-L Lafayette held off upset-minded Arkansas State 28-27. Chris Smith rushed 238 yards, which is the fifth-most rushing yards in a single game in program history. Montrell Johnson rushed for 150 yards and got most of those yards on a 99-yard touchdown run.

21st ranked SMU trounced Tulane 55-26 as the Green Wave fall to one and six.

It’s homecoming for Louisiana Tech who will host undefeated and 24th ranked UTSA. Bulldogs Coach Skip Holtz says the Roadrunners are a senior-laden team…

Corrall rushed for 30 times in last week’s win against Tennessee and Coach Lane Kiffin sounded pessimistic on Monday that he could suit up again on Saturday. There are two college football games tomorrow night, the Ragin Cajuns are at Arkansas State. U-L Lafayette seeks a 12th straight Sun Belt win on the road. And Tulane is at 21st ranked SMU.

Tonight is the season opener for the Pelicans as New Orleans hosts the 76ers. It’s the head coaching debut for Willie Green and the goal this season for New Orleans is nothing less than a playoff appearance. They got to get Zion Williamson. He continues to recover from fracturing his foot in the summer. Tip off is at 7 PM.

The Saints are five point favorites heading into Monday night’s matchup with the Seahawks. Seattle is in last place in the NFC West with a two and four record and they are without star quarterback Russell Wilson, who is sidelined with a finger injury. The Saints are getting healthier as Kwon Alexander, Marcus Davenport, Tre’Quan Smith and Will Lutz are getting closer to returning.

The Sun Belt Conference is reportedly close to announcing that Southern Miss and Marshall are leaving Conference USA to join the Sun Belt. Pete Thamel from Yahoo Sports also reports the Sun Belt is looking to add Old Dominion and James Madison, while Conference USA is interested in adding Liberty and James Madison.

After five games this season, LSU ranked 128th out of 130 FBS teams in rushing, now they are up to 104th heading into Saturday’s game at Ole Miss.

The Saints have designated linebacker Kwon Alexander, defensive end Marcus Davenport, wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith along with Kicker Will Lutz to return from injured reserve ahead of this Monday’s matchup with Seattle. That means they can return to practice and the Saints have 21 days to add them back to the active roster.

The Pelicans tip off the 2021-22 regular season tonight as they host the Philadelphia 76ers. Philadelphia has suspended former LSU star Ben Simmons for tonight’s game after he was reportedly kicked out of practice yesterday as he wants out of Philly. Pelicans coach Willie Green says Simmons’s absence doesn’t change their game plan…

According to the separation agreement between LSU and Orgeron, the football coach must cooperate in the school’s ongoing Title IX litigation. A Title IX lawsuit accuses Orgeron and other LSU officials of not reporting an alleged rape involving former running back Derrius Guice.

Based on the latest report from Yahoo Sports, the American Athletic Conference is looking to raid Conference USA. Six CUSA schools are reportedly looking to make the jump to the A-A-C, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA. The American would expand to 14 teams if this happens and Conference USA would drop to six schools.

In the latest high school football polls, Ouachita Christian remains ranked number one in Class-A, Many is ranked one in two-A, University High number one in three-A, Karr is number one in Four-A and Catholic High is number one in Five all, followed by Zachary, Brother Martin, Ponchatoula, Acadiana, Captain Shreve, who is getting one first-place vote and Ruston is ranked seventh. The Bearkats host Alexandria Senior High this Friday.

Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas is reportedly eligible to return from the physically unable to perform list, but the NFL Network reports that Can’t Guard Mike is still a couple of weeks away from re-joining the team after undergoing ankle surgery in June. But Will Lutz has been designated to come off injured reserve, which is a sign the Pro Bowl kicker is close to returning after undergoing surgery to repair a core muscle.

After its big upset win over Liberty on Saturday, ULM is once again an underdog at home. The Warhawks will host 4-and-2 South Alabama this Saturday. ULM coach Terry Bowden says first-year South Al Coach Kane Wommack (WAH-mick) has turned that program around…
