The LSU baseball team faces a must-win game tonight after dropping last night’s series opener to Texas A-and-M. Aggies first baseman Will Frizzell hit his 19th home run of the season in the eight ininng to give A-and-M a two-to one lead and that turned out to be the final score. LSU had just two hits. The Tigers need to win the final two games of the series in order to get to 13 SEC wins, which might be enough to get them an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Cajuns fell behind six to nothing to Troy last night and lost to the Trojans six to five. So if U-T Arlington wins tonight or if U-L Lafayette losses, the Mavericks will win the Sun Belt West Division.

Louisiana Tech fell to Old Dominion ten to eight last night at J-C Love Field despite a three-hit night from Hunter Wells. The two teams will conclude their regular season tonight with a single game at 6 PM and then week the Bulldogs will host the Conference USA Tournament.

The winner of today’s two games will face each other tomorrow at 2 PM in a winner’s bracket game.

After losing a tough two to one pitcher’s duel to Prairive View A-and-M last night, Southern rebounded this afternoon to beat Alcorn State ten to five. The Jaguars will face Prairie View again tonight. Grambling is taking on Jackson State today after beating Texas Southern five to two this morning.

And McNeese can qualify for a spot in the Southland Tournament if they can beat Central Arkansas. The Cowboys lost to the Bears eight to one yesterday.

LSU could only muster two hits last night in a two-to-one loss to Texas A-and-M as the two teams fighting to get into the SEC Tournament opened up their three-game series. LSU also lost two starting outfielders to injuries. Giovanni DiGiacomo had to leave last night’s game with more hamstring issues and left fielder Gavin Dugas injured his ribs when he collided with Drew Bianco in the outfield. LSU needs to win the last two games of the series to be on the right side of the NCAA Tournament bubble.

The Ragin Cajuns fell behind six to nothing to Troy and lost to the Trojans six to five last night. Texas Arlington won its game, so the Mavericks are now a win or a U-L Lafayette loss from clinching the Sun Belt West.

In other action last night, Arkansas State knocked off ULM 12-6. 14th ranked Louisiana Tech lost a slugfest to Old Dominion ten to eight. Tech concludes its regular season tonight at 6 PM.

The NCAA Softball Baton Rouge Regional gets underway today at Tiger Park. AT 3 PM, the LSU Tigers will face McNeese and at 5:30 PM it will be U-L Lafayette versus George Washington. Another tough one-run loss for LSU in SEC play last night as the Tigers dropped a two to one decision to Texas A-and-M in College Station. Will Frizzle hit his 19th home run in the eighth inning to give the Aggies a two to one lead and they went on to win by that same score. LSU also lost a couple of starting outfielders to injuries, Gavin Dugas and Giovanni DiGiacomo. Coach Paul Mainieri says DiGiacomo is out for the series with a hamstring injury, while Dugas left the game with possible broken ribs after colliding with Drew Bianco in the outfield.

14th ranked Louisiana Tech couldn’t hold on to a seven to three lead, and lost to 20th ranked Old Dominion 10 to 8 at J-C Love Field last night. The Bulldogs conclude the regular season tonight.

The Rajun Cajuns fell to Troy six to five after trailing by six runs in the fourth inning. and Arkansas State doubled up ULM 12 to six.

In Southland Conference baseball, Southeastern snapped a four-game losing streak by blanking Houston Baptist ten to nothing. Central Arkansas clobbered McNeese eight to one, Nicholls and Northwestern State had their games postponed yesterday and they’ll play doubleheaders today and tomorrow.

Southern and Grambling lost in the SWAC Tournament yesterday and they’ll play in elimination games today.

The LSU baseball team opens its final regular-season series versus Texas A-and-M tonight, needing to win at least two games versus the Aggies in order to receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. LSU’s RPI is at 22.

Sports betting is another step closer to a reality in Louisiana as the Louisiana Senate overwhelmingly approved legislation that would allow for sports beting parlors at riverboat casinos, racetracks and Harrah’s New Orleans. There would also be mobile sports betting and kiosks where bets can be made would be set up at bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. Port Allen Senator Rick Ward says as far as he’s concerned 65-percent of voters approved the bill last fall.

In 55 of the state’s 64 parishes, voters voted for a proposition to allow sports betting in their parish. The goal is for sports betting to become operational in Louisiana in time for football season.

Tonight, the Aggies will send senior left-hander Dustin Saenz to the hill. He’s five and six with a 4.60 ERA and has struck out 96 in 76.1 innings.

The LSU baseball team left for College Station today after losing to Northwestern State last night, suffering their first midweek loss of the season. Despite the loss to the Demons, the Tigers fell only four spots in the R-P-I to 22. And Baseball America came out with its latest NCAA Tournament projection and they have LSU as one of the last teams getting into the Field of 64.

Grambling and Southern both earned victories on the opening day of the SWAC Baseball Tournament. Grambling scored three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to beat Alabama A-and-M eight to two. Grambling shortstop Cameron Bufford blasted two home runs and drove in three runs. Meanwhile, the Jaguars blanked Alabama State three to nothing. Senior left-hander John Guienze from Franklin threw a complete-game shutout, allowing two hits and striking out nine.

This weekend, LSU hosts the Baton Rouge softball regional featuring the Cajuns, McNeese and George Washington and the NCAA is allowing 100-percent capacity at Tiger Park.

The Louisiana House approves legislation to increase certain hunting and fishing license fees, raising millions of dollars for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Prairieville Representative Tony Bacala says the average sportsmen’s license will not go up by more than 10-dollars and some activities will be combined. The measure still needs Senate approval

The loss drops LSU’s record to 32-20 as they head into the final SEC series of the year at Texas A-and-M. The Tigers need one win to clinch a spot in the SEC Tournament. Both D-1 Baseball and Baseball America have LSU as one of the last four teams making the NCAA Tournament.

D1 Baseball reports the NCAA is expected to allow 100-percent capacity at baseball and softball regionals. Big news for LSU who is hosting a softball regional this weekend and La Tech could be a Baseball regional ost.

The Louisiana House approves legislation to increase certain hunting and fishing license fees, raising millions of dollars for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Prairieville Representative Tony Bacala says a fee hike is necessary because LDWF can no longer rely on a pot of money from the Conversation Fund

It was a disappointing night for LSU, but a great night for Northwestern State as the Demons baseball team defeated the Tigers seven to three at Alex Box Stadium last night. N-S-U had 12 hits on the night led by Larson Fontenot’s four hits and Jeffrey Elkins and Marshall Skinner each had two hits and Tyler Smith drove in two runs. The Tigers were held to five hits as Coach Paul Mainieri’s team suffers their first-midweek loss of the year…

It’s the Demons’ second straight win over LSU. They also beat the Tigers in 2019. Both teams will now get ready for their final series of the season. LSU is at Texas A-and-M, while Northwestern hosts Corpus Christi.

The SWAC baseball tourney gets underway today. Grambling faces Alabama A-and-M at 9 AM and Southern takes on Alabama State at noon.

Former Madison Prep Safety Major Burns is transferring to LSU after spending one season at Georgia. Burns is a former four-star recruit in the 2020 recruiting class. He played in a handful of games for the Bulldogs last season and he’ll give LSU some added depth at safety.

The doctor who performed reconstructive knee surgery on Joe Burrow’s left knee last December says the former LSU Tiger will be ready for week one of the regular season. Burrow and the Bengals open the season against Patrick Peterson, Justin Jefferson, and the Minnesota Vikings.

Louisiana Tech announces plans to honor legendary women’s basketball coach Leon Barmore by building a statue of him that will reside on the front steps of the Thomas Assembly Center. The statue will be unveiled during homecoming weekend October 22nd-23. Barmore is the winningest coach percentage-wise in the history of both men’s and women’s college basketball and he won three national titles.

The offseason is underway for the Pelicans who finished the 2020-21 season with a 31-41 record. New Orleans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin is not happy they didn’t make the playoffs.

Griffin says the Pelicans were two and 11 in games decided by three points. He says while there is talent on the team, they will look at personnel changes so that the pieces will fit a little bit better.

Louisiana Tech announces plans to place a statue of legendary women’s basketball coach Leon Barmore at the front steps of the Thomas Assembly Center. Barmore played for the Bulldogs and as a coach helped the Lady Techsters reach 13 final fours and win three national titles over a 25 year period, before retiring in 2002.

The Ragin Cajuns baseball game at UNO has been canceled, but LSU is playing Northwestern State tonight. The Tigers are coming off a 13-5 win over Alabama. Giovanni DiGiacomo hit two home runs after not playing in Friday’s win. Coach Paul Mainieri says he sat Gio on Friday after not giving 100-percent in the field in last week’s game against Louisiana Tech. Mainieri is glad DiGiacomo got the message…

In LSU football news….former Madison Prep star Major Burns has committed to LSU after spending last season with the Georgia Bulldogs. Burns was rated as a four-star prospect and the nation’s 13th best safety in the nation coming out of high school in 2020
