After trying out some kickers, the Saints have reportedly signed former Cowboys kicker Brett Maher. In 2019, he was just eight of 13 on attempts from 40 yards and beyond.

After a report that said Saints receiver Michael Thomas ignored calls from the Saints during the offseason to see how his injured ankle was doing, Thomas posted this message on his Twitter account. “They tried to damage your reputation, you saved theirs by not telling your side of the story.” Payton had no comment when asked about the social media post.

For LSU to have a big season, the Tigers defense must be much better than it was last year when it allowed 35 points a game. Ian Rappoport is reporting that Saints kicker Will Lutz is being evaluated for a potential core muscle surgery that could keep his out for an extended period of time.

With Fall camp underway, Tiger fans are eager to find out who will crack the team’s starting lineup.  LSU’s defensive line should be a strength, because several starters are back and there’s a lot of depth. College football is mourning the death of longtime Florida State Coach Bobby Bowden, who passed away after a bout with pancreatic cancer at the age of 91.

Former LSU guard Alan Faneca and New Orleans native Peyton Manning were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame yesterday. Former Southern receiver Harold Carmichael who played 13 seasons in the N-F-L, mostly with the Eagles was inducted on Saturday with his 2020 classmates.

The SEC has extended the contract of commissioner Greg Sankey through 2026. The announcement comes on the heels of Texas and Oklahoma joining the league.

The Pelicans reportedly re-signed Willy Hernangomez to a three-year contract. The 27-year-old center averaged nearly eight points and seven rebounds a game last season.

New Orleans native Peyton Manning will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Sunday after a stellar 18-year career in the NFL that saw him win two Super Bowls for two different franchises. Manning says he had a lot of help to get to where he is today….

At Saints training camp yesterday, the defense had the better of it than the offense. According to the team’s website, defensive end Marcus Davenport had four sacks while going up against backup offensive tackle James Hurst. Taysom Hill threw his first interception of training camp during full-team drills. Observers say there’s not a clear leader in the battle for starting Q-B.

LSU quarterback Myles Brennan is recovering from surgery on his broken arm. His father Owen Brennan says Myles suffered the severe injury when he fell down while preparing for a fishing trip in Grand Isle. Owen also told WWL Radio that one of the first phone calls he received was from Brad Johnson, the father of Max Johnson…..

But there are other key position battles as the Tigers report for preseason camp today.  The safety spot is a position with plenty of talent but not much experience.  Weathers says you could see some young guys step up in the secondary.

LSU Quarterback Myles Brennan was squarely in the mix to compete for LSU’s starting quarterback job this season until he broke his non-throwing arm. Brennan underwent surgery on Tuesday and his dad Owen Brennan tells WWL Radio the plan is to start rehab as soon as possible.

Owen Brennan says Myles has no plans of transferring.

The New Orleans Saints have waived recently acquired defensive end Kendall Donnerson in order to make room for linebacker Kwon Alexander. Donnerson struggled to stand out at camp in a crowded position room that features players like Marcus Davenport and first-round pick Payton Turner.

The Pelicans have hired former two-time coach of the year Mike D’Antoni as a consultant to help out first-year coach Willie Green. D’Antoni is known for his offensive mind and has been a head coach for multiple NBA franchises.

Former Nicholls head baseball coach Seth Thibodeaux has been named as the pitching coach at U-L Lafayette.

In a memo to season ticket holders, LSU says they continue to consult with campus and state health officials, and at this time, there are no plans to implement restrictions that could impact the game day experience. The school says they are preparing for a normal season inside Tiger Stadium. LSU’s home opener is September 11th versus McNeese.

The first interception during the team drill portion of training camp was thrown at Saints camp yesterday. Jameis Winston was picked off by Ken Crawley. New Orleans is in search for a cornerback to start opposite of Marshawn Lattimore. After not playing in a game last season, 11-year veteran Prince Amukamara is hoping to be that guy. The 32-year-old, who has 10 career interceptions, believes he can still play in the NFL…
