On the diamond last night, Southern Miss doubled up UNO 10-5, and ULM ended McNeese’s four-game winning streak with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings.

Tonight, LSU baseball begins a 3-game set versus Missouri starting at 7 pm in The Box. The Tigers are 7-8 in the SEC while Mizzou is 5-10. Ma’Khail Hilliard will get the start for LSU as he looks to improve to 4-0 on the season.

LSU football fans have been waiting for a look at the Tigers under new coach Brian Kelly, and they get that chance at Saturday’s spring game. A pair of freshmen will have a lot of eyes on them. Quarterback Walker Howard is fourth on the depth chart. With three more experienced quarterbacks ahead of him, Howard has had to shift his focus to making the most of his limited on-field reps and strengthening the mental aspects of his game.

The other is left tackle Will Campbell, the top-rated prospect in Louisiana last year. He’s already impressed the Tigers staff with his maturity and ability to grasp the offense. Offensive line coach Brad Davis has been instrumental in getting Campbell up to speed. Campbell says the two have bonded quickly.

In college baseball around the state, last night Southern Miss hammered UNO 10-5, and ULM needed 10 innings to edge in state rival McNeese State 4-3.

And LSU baseball begins a 3-game set versus Missouri starting tonight at 7pm in The Box. The Tigers are 7-8 in the SEC while Mizzou is 5-10.

We’ll learn a lot about the LSU Football team as the Tigers take the field Saturday for its annual Spring Game. One player to watch is freshman left tackle Will Campbell, who starred at Neville and was the state’s top-rated prospect. Two seasons ago, Brandon Ingram was an All-Star but he has flown under the radar since as the New Orleans Pelicans struggled. Now, with the Pels in the playoffs, Ingram has been introduced to the basketball world on the sports’ biggest stage. Tuesday night he led the Pelicans to their first postseason victory in four years with a 37 point, 11 rebound, and nine assist virtuoso performance. Coach Willie Green says Ingram proved that he belongs in the conversation with the league’s elite players.

Though the Tigers won’t play a traditional game due to depth or lack thereof at certain positions, it is an opportunity to see just how different things will be for the Tigers under new coach Brian Kelly. The New Orleans Pelicans beat the Phoenix Suns 125-114 to even their playoff series at one game each. Brandon Ingram put on a show, finishing with 37 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. It was an unlikely victory for the Pelicans, with the worst record in the playoffs, over the team with the best record in the league. Head coach Willie Green has been praised for his part in turning the Pels’ season around, but he says the credit shouldn’t come to him.

New Orleans won for the first time ever when trailing a series 0-1 and now returns home for game three on Friday night with home-court advantage in the series.

In the final Wally Pontiff Junior Classic, the LSU Tigers doubled up the Ragin Cajuns eight to four. Jordan Thompson hit a two-run homer in a five-run fourth inning and Ty Floyd dominated on the mound, striking out eight and allowing two runs on four hits. The Tigers host Missouri starting tomorrow, while the Cajuns are at Georgia State this weekend.

Greg Martinez threw seven innings of shutout baseball as La Tech blanked Little Rock ten to nothing. Steele Netterville had a three-run double.

Nicholls held Southern hitless for eight and two-thirds innings in three to nothing victory for the Colonels over the Jaguars.

Tyler Finke went five for five, including a walk-off two-run homer as Southeastern Louisiana defeated South Alabama eight to six.

And Northwestern State beat LSU-Alexandria 11 to four as Jeffrey Elkins hit a three-run homer in the eighth. The Demons are at Louisiana Tech tonight.

Tonight, UNO looks to snap a four-game losing streak on the road at Southern Miss.

LSU adds depth to its secondary via the transfer portal. Brian Kelly announced on Tuesday that Sevyn Banks, a two-year starter at corner for Ohio State has been added to the roster. In four years with the Buckeyes, Banks appeared in 36 games with 15 starts, earning honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in 2020.

Former New Orleans Hornet Chris Paul dominated the Pelicans in the fourth quarter on Sunday as he scored 19 points as the Suns held off the Pelicans 110 to 99. Tonight is game two of their Western Conference playoff series. Pels Coach Willie Green says there are things they can do to slow down the future Hall of Famer, but he is who he is.

In football news, LSU sophomore running back Corey Kiner entered the NCAA transfer portal and quickly committed to Cincinnati. Kiner is from Cincinnati and said in a social media post he wants to start a new chapter in his life.

And the Saints have re-signed running back Dwayne Washington.

Following their 110-99 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night, the New Orleans Pelicans trail one game to nothing in their opening-round playoff series. The Pels trailed 53-34 at the half and were down by as many as 23 points before a second-half rally cut the deficit to six before the Suns pulled away late. Coach Willie Green says he and his staff will make changes and that his team will be ready to compete from the start.

The New Orleans Saints announced that they have re-signed special teams ace, running back Dwayne Washington to a one-year deal. Washington returns for his fifth season with the Black & Gold.

New Orleans’ other football team, the USFL’s Breakers, won their first game of the season, defeating the Philadelphia Stars 23-17 in Birmingham. Next up, the Tampa Bay Bandits this Sunday.

After a disastrous start where they trailed by as many as 23 points, the Pels rallied to cut the deficit to six in the fourth quarter, but an MVP performance by Chris Paul was too much to overcome. The former New Orleans Hornet finished with 30 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. Coach Willie Green said his team didn’t play its best and that won’t be good enough against the defending Western Conference champs.

There are just three practices left this spring for the LSU Tigers leading up to Saturday’s scrimmage. Intensity on the defensive side of the ball has been lacking at times. Lack of depth is one possible reason and head coach Brian Kelly has also been preaching brotherhood to the players. It might be impacting their tackling.

LSU was swept by Arkansas as the Razorbacks held the Tigers offense to six runs in three games…Southeastern catcher Bryce Grizzaffi was named Southland Hitter of the Week after leading the Lions to a sweep of UNO to move into a tie with Nicholls for first in the conference. Colonels junior Tyler Theriot earned Pitcher of the Week honors with 8 scoreless innings against Northwestern State on his way to picking up his fifth win of the season.

A slow start doomed the Pelicans last night as they scored just 34 points in the first half and lost to the Phoenix Suns 110 to 99 to open up their best of seven playoff series. New Orleans made a run in the second half and they were within six with six minutes left, but veteran Suns point guard Chris Paul scored 19 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter. The Pelicans were led by CJ McCollum who had 25 points. Brandon Ingram and Jonas Valanciunas each had 18 points. Larry Nance Junior had 14 points off the bench. At the halfway point of the SEC schedule, LSU Baseball is in fifth place in the SEC West with a seven and eight league record after getting swept by Arkansas.

The Tigers will host U-L Lafayette tomorrow night. The Cajuns are nine and six in the Sun Belt after taking two of three from ULM. The Warhawks are 5-9-and-1 in league play. Louisiana Tech swept a doubleheader from Marshall on Saturday to improve to 11-and-4 in Conference USA, two games back of Southern Miss for first place.
