No LSU game last night because of inclement weather in College Station, so the Tigers and the Texas A-and-M Aggies will play a doubleheader today at 2 PM. LSU is 14-7 in the SEC and in position to receive a top eight national seed, while the Aggies need a strong finish to the regular season to make a Regional.

The Cajuns defeated Georgia State ten to five. Tate Hess struck out a career-high 10 hitters as he was outstanding out of the bullpen. Conner Higgs hit his 33rd career home run, moving into fifth place in school history.

Texas State topped ULM 12 to 2. The Bobcats scored eight runs in the second inning, Warhawks starting pitcher Zach Shaw gave up seven runs.

Tough loss for La Tech, the Bulldogs scored four runs in the eighth to tie the game at eight, but Western Kentucky won it in the bottom of the ninth 9-8.

Former Memphis guard P-J Carter has signed with the LSU men’s basketball team out of the transfer portal. Carter only averaged five points a game last season. LSU will be Carter’s fifth school since 2021.

Louisiana Tech has signed Scooter Williams. He was East Texas A-and-M’s leading scorer last season. The six-foot-five guard averaged 11 points a game for the Lions. He’s also played several seasons of college basketball.

The Ragin Cajuns will hold their spring football game today at 10 AM.

Grambling football will kick off the 2025 season in the Shreveport Classic in Independence Stadium on August 30th by playing Langston. The Tigers are 16-3 and-1 all time in the city of Shreveport

The state softball tournament was halted by severe thunderstorms yesterday in Sulphur, so they’ll continue with semifinal action today and championship games will take place on Sunday.

The tenth ranked LSU softball team won its 40th game of the season last night by thumping eighth ranked Arkansas 13 to 2.

The Tigers enter the series with a 14-7 SEC record and feeling good about themselves after winning a series over Tennessee last weekend and a run-rule win over Southeastern Louisiana. The Aggies are fighting for their postseason lives as they are 8-and-13 and A-and-M was swept last weekend at Texas.

Louisiana Tech is at Western Kentucky.

The Ragin Cajuns are at Georgia State this weekend. Start time for Saturday’s game has been moved up to 11 AM.

 

LSU men’s basketball has signed another player out of the transfer portal. The latest addition is Memphis guard P-J Carter, who averaged five points a game last season and shot 39-percent from three-point territory. Carter is six-foot-four and has been playing college hoops for while In 2023-24, he was at UTSA and prior to that two seasons at Georgia Highlands College and Campbell.

Louisiana Tech men’s hoops have signed Scooter Williams, East Texas A-and-M’s leading scorer last season. The six-foot-five guard averaged 11 points a game for the Lions last season. He’s another guy who has played several seasons of college basketball.

Other series of note, La Tech is at Western Kentucky, Southeastern hosts Lamar, the Cajuns are Georgia State and ULM visits Texas State.

Alexandria Senior High Football star J-T Lindsey is the 2025 Warrick Dunn Award winner. The award goes to the state’s best high school football player and ten finalists are recognized by the LHSAA Network. Lindsey led the ASH Trojans to an undefeated regular season and a trip to the state championship game. He says he’ll never forget his senior season…

Lindsey rushed for just under 25-hundred yards and 33 touchdowns.

The semi-finals of the state softball tournament are today in Sulphur. The LHSAA Network will televise three games, starting at noon with Notre Dame versus D’arbonne Woods. At 2:30 PM Brusly will battle Assumption and at 5 PM Mount Carmel faces St. Thomas More in a division one select semifinal. Tomorrow is championship Saturday and the LHSAA Network will televise the Division Three non select and Division Two select title games.

The second ranked LSU baseball team begins a three-game series tonight at Texas A&M. It’s been a struggle for the Aggies this season. A&M was ranked number one in the preseason, but slumped offensively at the start of the season and they are 8-13 in the SEC after getting swept by Texas last weekend. LSU Coach Jay Johnson says despite the record the Aggies have a formidable lineup…

The Aggies will start Ryan Prager on the mound. He has not been as good this year with a 4.04 ERA.

Louisiana Tech starts today in third place in the Conference USA standings, a game and a half back of Dallas Baptist for first place. The Bulldogs are at Western Kentucky who is in fourth place in the league.

The Ragin Cajuns are in fourth place in the Sun Belt with a 12-9 record. U-L Lafayette is at Georgia State this weekend. The Panthers have lost four in a row. ULM has lost three straight and the Warhawks are at Texas State.

In softball…ULM and Texas State are now tied for first place after the Warhawks lost to the Bobcats five to three last night. Mallory Wheeler threw a no-hitter last night as the Cajuns blanked Southern Miss two to nothing.

Arkansas won a wild game over LSU 12 to 9. The Tigers fell behind seven to nothing in the first inning, got within a run, but ended up losing by three.

Former Lady Tiger basketball stars Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith return to the PMAC tonight as the Chicago Sky of the WNBA faces the Brazilian National Team in an exhibition game that begins at 8 PM.

Left fielder Derek Curiel has reached base in his last seven plate appearances after seeing his season-long consecutive games on base streak end in Saturday’s loss to Tennessee. D-1 baseball-dot-com’s Kendall Rogers says Curiel might be the best freshman position player in college baseball…

Curiel is hitting .380 on the season with six home runs and 42 RBs.

Nicholls lost its third in a row last night, falling to South Alabama two to nothing and Louisiana Tech’s game against Arkansas Pine Bluff was ruled a no contest because weather interrupted the game in the fifth inning and they could not re-start.

LSU women’s basketball lost a recruiting battle with UCONN for a standout player in the transfer portal. Six-foot-four Serah Williams has chosen the Huskies over the Lady Tigers. The three-year starter at Wisconsin, averaged 19 points, ten rebounds and two blocks per game last season for the Badgers.

LSU men’s basketball has added a six-foot-seven wing player out of the transfer portal, Pablo Tamba. The native of Spain averaged 11 points and five rebounds a game last year at U-C Davis.

The Southland Softball Tournament gets underway today…McNeese is the number one seed, while Southeastern is the two seed. Half of the bracket is playing in Lake Charles and the other half is in Hammond, the winners of two brackets will meet in a championship series next week.

Northwestern State upset LSU last week in a mid-week game and the Tigers were determined last night for that not to happen again. Derek Curiel and Jared Jones led off the first inning by hitting home runs and Ethan Frey ended the game with a grand slam as LSU beat a good Southeastern Louisiana team 15 to 2 in seven innings.

LSU women’s basketball has missed out on Serah Williams, a standout six-foot-four forward from Wisconsin who was in the transfer portal. Williams chose UCONN over LSU after averaging 19 points and ten rebounds a game last year for the Badgers.

The second ranked LSU baseball team started last night’s game off with a bang as Derek Curiel and Jared Jones hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning and the Tigers beat Southeastern Louisiana 15-2. Ethan Frey hit a grand slam to end the game in the seventh inning. William Schmidt struck out seven hitters and picked up the win.

Northwestern State blew a five-run lead, but still ended up beating ULM nine to eight. Reese Lipoma had four hits, including a game-winning single in the ninth.

La Tech topped Arkansas Pine-Bluff eleven to six. Sebastian Mexico drove in seven runs, including a grand slam in a seven-run second inning. Houston edged McNeese four to three and Tulane topped Nicholls nine to four.

 

The Saints’ second-round draft pick, quarterback Tyler Shough (Shuck) from Louisville, is 25-years-old and will be 26 in September. But General Manager Mickey Loomis is fine with Shough being an older rookie…

The Lions are having a good season as S-L-U is 33-11 overall and they lead the Southland with an 18-6 record. First pitch from Alex Box is at 6:30.

Also tonight, ULM will host Northwestern State at six PM. Louisiana Tech begins a two-game midweek series against Arkansas Pine Bluff, Grambling hosts Stephen F Austin. McNeese faces Houston in Lake Charles. The Cowboys are 21 and 4 at home this season. Nicholls is at Tulane.

 

LSU football has received a commitment from one of the top cornerbacks in the Class of 2026. His name is Havon Finney from Chatsworth, California. Finney chose the Tigers over U-S-C, Michigan, Oregon and others. He’s ranked by 24-7 sports as the seventh best cornerback in the Class of 2026.

Spring football is over for Louisiana Tech. Bulldogs head coach Sonny Cumbie says he’s hoping to add some defensive linemen through the transfer portal, but overall he feels good about his front seven…

The Saints have signed defensive end Chris Rumph. Rumph was a rotational pass rusher for the Chargers for four seasons and has 29 tackles and three sacks.

There are three college baseball games in northeast Louisiana tonight. ULM will host Northwestern State at six PM. The All-time series between these two schools is very close. The Warhawks have won 117 games played between the two schools, while Northwestern State has won 116.
