Saints fans could not have asked for a better start to the season as the Black and Gold pummeled the Packers 38 to 3 in Jacksonville yesterday. Quarterback Jameis Winston only threw for 148 yards in his first start for the Saints, but he tossed five touchdown passes and he was not intercepted. Meanwhile, the Saints defense put the clamps down on the reigning NFL MVP. Aaron Rodgers threw for only 133 yards and he was intercepted twice.

The Saints have reportedly made Marshon Lattimore the second-highest-paid cornerback in the NFL as the two sides agreed to a five-year, 97-million dollar contract extension.

LSU beat McNeese in its home opener, but the offense still has its issues as the Tigers only managed 306 total yards and they were 4-of-16 on third downs. Coach Ed Orgeron says he’s a little surprised the offense has struggled through the first two games of the season…

LSU will host Central Michigan this Saturday night. The Chippewas have a sophomore running back by the name of Lew Nichols, who was the MAC Freshman of the Year last season.

The Cajuns will also face a team from the MAC this week. U-L Lafayette will host Ohio on Thursday. The Cajuns defeated Nicholls on Saturday 27-24. Also a close game in Ruston on Saturday as La Tech held off Southeastern Louisiana 45-42. Lions Q-B Cole Kelley nearly threw for 500 yards.

The Saints kick-off the regular season on Sunday in Jacksonville where they’ll take on the Green Bay Packers. The team has been preparing for the game in Fort Worth, Texas as they wait for basic services to return to the New Orleans area. Quarterback Jameis Winston says the time re-located in north Louisiana has been good for the team as they’ve come together…

The Saints have placed cornerback Ken Crawley and wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith on injuried reserve.

And former LSU Tiger and Cowboys offensive tackle La’el Collins has been suspended for five games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

LSU will welcome McNeese into Tiger Stadium on Saturday. The Bayou Bengals are looking to put together a good performance after a 38-27 season opening loss to UCLA. Coach Ed Orgeron says he wants to see a variety of runs and different formations on offense, he would like to see the defense cover crossing routes better and more game-changing plays on defense.

Here’s a look at the other action in college football around the state on Saturday. Southeastern Louisiana will be in Ruston to face Louisiana Tech. The Lions looked good in a win over North Alabama last week, while the Bulldogs can use a win after a one-point loss to Mississippi State. Nicholls is at the Ragin Cajuns. Both teams lost their season openers last week.

Northwestern State is at Alcorn State. Grambling will visit Southern Miss and Louisiana College is at Abilene Christian.

The LSU Board of Supervisors on a 12 to 3 vote approved a motion to rename the basetball court in the PMAC to Dale Brown Court. Ricky Blanton, Rudy Macklin. John Brady and Jordy Hultberg urged the board to vote for naming the court after the former LSU basketball coach.

Brees made his debut as a Sunday Night Football analyst last night as the NFL season opened with Tampa Bay beating Dallas. Brees now has a full set of hair which provided a lot of content for social media users.

LSU rushed for just 49 yards last week in the loss to UCLA. Look for the Tigers to establish the ground game on Saturday night when they host McNeese. Coach Ed Orgeron has called on his offensive coaches to have different run plays into the playbook.

The Cajuns rushed for 76 yards in their loss to Texas last week. But Coach Billy Napier still believes in his ground game…

44-year-old Tom Brady looked as good as ever last night as he led Tampa Bay to a 31-29 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Brady threw for four touchdown passes and 379 yards. Former Haughton standout Dak Prescott also played well in his return from a dislocated ankle in 2020. The Cowboys quarterback threw for 403 yards and a touchdown.

The LSU Board of Supervisors will vote today on whether the court inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center should be named after former LSU coach Dale Brown.

Don’t forget you’ll need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours before kick-off in order to get into Tiger Stadium tomorrow night for the LSU-McNeese game. LSU will have 12 pre-verification sites on campus to help ease congestion into the stadium. LSU spokesperson Cody Worsham says there’s a map of the sites on lsu-sports-dot-net and they will be open from 10 to 3…

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting the Saints are sending a 2022 third-round pick and a conditional pick in 2023 to Houston in a deal that will bring cornerback Bradley Roby to New Orleans. Roby is a seven-year NFL vet with ten career interceptions and he’s entering the second year of a three-year contract. He’ll miss Sunday’s season opener against Green Bay as he’s finishing a multi-game suspension for taking a banned substance.

The Saints will soon make their way to Jacksonville, the host site for their season opener. Wide receiver Marquez Callaway believes the re-location to Fort Worth, Texas has helped the team…

Running back Tre Bradford is back with the Tigers. He left LSU this summer and transferred to Oklahoma, but re-entered the transfer portal two weeks ago and now he’s back in Baton Rouge.

The Ragin Cajuns Athletics Department has received a seven-figure gift from MacLaff Incorporated that will go towards the renovation of Cajun field. The gift also secures the naming rights for the Victory Bell Tower in the south end zone. Maclaff Inc owns several McDonald’s in south Louisiana.

Southeastern Louisiana’s home game on September 25th versus Northwestern State has been moved to November 13th because of hurricane damage to Strawberry Stadium

LSU guard Ed Ingram provided candid comments on what went wrong last Saturday when the Tigers lost their season opener to UCLA. Ingram and the rest of the offensive line had trouble protecting quarterback Max Johnson and couldn’t establish a running game….

Ingram also says they got tired and were out of shape because of the numerous injuries that occurred during fall camp. Center Liam Shananan says UCLA did some stuff they were not prepared for.

The Tigers enter Saturday’s game without their two starting tackles. Austin Deculus and Cam Wire have been ruled out. Charles Turner and Marlon Martinez are potential replacements.

The Cajuns have ruled wide receiver Errol Rogers Junior and linebacker Ferrod Gardner out for Saturday’s home opener against Nicholls.

Nothing official from the Saints, but they have reportedly traded for Houston Texans cornerback Bradly Roby. The former first-round draft pick has 10 interceptions during his seven-year NFL career. He’s also started 35 games over the past three seasons for the Texans and Broncos.

The Saints will face Green Bay in the season opener on Sunday. The Packers have reached the NFC championship game the last two seasons and they are expected to get back there again this year. New Orleans Coach Sean Payton says Green Bay does a lot of the little things well…

The Saints have also reportedly pulled off a trade for Houston Texans cornerback Bradley Roby. He’s 29-years-old and will be suspended for Sunday’s game against Green Bay as he finishes a multi-game suspension that started last year when he was busted for a positive test for a banned substance. Roby was selected in the first round of the 2014 draft by the Broncos and in 99 career games, he has ten interceptions. He was set to enter the season as a starter for the Texans despite the suspension.

Cody Orgeron threw for a career-high 361 yards in a season-opening loss to West Florida last Saturday.

Ed Orgeron has said his starting offensive tackles, Austin Deculus and Cam Wire, will not be available for Saturday’s game because of undisclosed injuries. Orgeron says Charles Turner and Anthony Bradford are a couple of guys who will have to step it up.

ULM has announced baseball coach Michael Frederico has received a three-year contract extension and his base salary went up to 126-thousand dollars. The Warhawks went 26 and 26 this past season, the program’s first non-losing season since 2012.

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron said after Saturday’s loss to UCLA that he was taking the responsibility for the loss to the Bruins. On Tuesday, he talked about the adjustments the coaches have made. Orgeron says there’s also been extensive meetings on how the defense can defend crossing routes better. UCLA scored two of its touchdowns on crossing routes that left receivers wide open.

LSU is no longer ranked in the polls and the same goes for the Ragin Cajuns who look to rebound from a loss to Texas by hosting Nicholls this Saturday.

Louisiana Tech showed signs it can be productive on offense in its one-point loss to Mississippi State last Saturday. Bulldogs quarterback Austin Kendall says he wants to be more consistent on offense this week…

Orgeron says running back John Emery’s status for Saturday’s game is unknown because of academics.

The Saints have released running back Latavius Murray after the veteran declined to take a pay cut. Murray was set to make two-point-nine million dollars this year and releasing him saves the team two-point-three million dollars towards the cap.

La Tech is looking forward to Saturday’s home opener against Southeastern Louisiana after blowing a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter and losing to Mississippi State 35-34. Bulldogs quarterback Austin Kendall says the offense stalled after scoring a touchdown early in the fourth quarter…

Meanwhile, the Nicholls football team is staying in the Memphis area this week as power is very scarce in Lafourche Parish in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. The Colonels are set to play in Lafayette this weekend against the Ragin Cajuns.

LSU and U-L Lafayette are no longer in the A-P Top 25 poll or the coaches poll. The Tigers lost to UCLA, who is now ranked 16th in both polls, while the Ragin Cajuns fell to Texas, who is now ranked 15th in both polls.

U-L Lafayette is getting ready to host Nicholls, while LSU will take on McNeese in the home opener. Ed Orgeron’s son, Cody, is the starting quarterback for the Cowboys and he’s been starting at McNeese since the 2018 season. Cody Orgeron guided McNeese to a three-and-four season last spring. Ed Orgeron attended all of those games, but Cody says he wasn’t there to scout the Cowboys…

The Saints are also expected to sign veteran cornerback Desmond Trufant. Trufant has eight years of NFL experience with Atlanta and Detroit. He was recently released by the Bears. Linebacker Kwon Alexander plans on playing after rupturing his Achilles Tendon on Christmas Day.

In the high school football polls, University High is the newly ranked number one team in Class 3A after beating Class 5A Central 39-7. Union Parish has moved up to number two.
